First, just how much loyalty does one owe to a 'bud?'

I suppose you are not well read on the subject of psychologically acclimating new recruits to serving in the armed forces.

Most of the things a recruit endures at boot camp is designed to disconnect their loyalty to anything except their unit. They are paired up, your buddy screws up, cant make a drill, etc., and you are punished along with that person. Eventually, your connection to your buddy and the corp is the most important connection you have in life, and one you will die defending the way a mother would kill to save her children.

What makes the US military the most fearsome fighting force the world has ever seen is not just about the toys they are sent into battle with. It is about the psychological conditioning to remove the societal conditioning that says killing other people is bad.

I do not know what branch of the service you were in but that was never my experience.
As for the U.S. military being the most fearsome fighting force the world has ever seen. Now that is a total load. While I will admit there are some aspects of the U.S, military that are pretty good there are others past and present that put even our best to shame.
thompson

Based on the recent revelation that 21,500 troop increase ACTUALLY means 44,000 troops because of a tooth-to-tail ratio over 1, I'd say there are likely a LOT of units which put us to shame. What people forget about Iraqis is that they've been killing each other for centuries. The ones who are left after all that are REALLY GOOD at surviving.

Of course, it's basic EVIL-oution in action, so some people may have missed that subtle aspect of the conflict.

What's it say on the Talk page? I've discovered that surprisingly, you can figure out what's going on with a little follow up.

Consensus is better than Authority.

And if you don't like what it says, and can back up your statements, feel free to join the process and edit.

So we should wait till we are attacked in your backyard, before we { sorry you..} will repond. Just so I'm assured that you have the capabilities to insure our safety, what types of armaments do you stockpile?

Win 94, Trapper, scoped and slung in .38s/.357. Thinking about a Puma for the kids. Maybe hit the shows and find a clean used Trapper for them.

No, I think that I and most responsible adults will let the appropriate people handle these types of fights.

The lesson of Flight 93 is that YOU have the responsibility and duty to respond.

I'd much prefer to have these fights overseas as well, If you havent visited ground zero in manhattan then maybe you should. You'll have a greater understanding why we need to fight outside US borders.

Where your entire strategy of "Overseas Engagemant" falls down is the complete and total failure OF that strategy.

The planes were hijacked because people OBEYED the Governments orders, "Co-operate with Hijackers". That's the dumbest fucking thing I've ever heard, myself, but there you are.

It gives them HOPE and steals it from our guys/gals over there.

Why? HOW? In the case of Iraq, it was a compete and total fabrication which got us in there, and just plain incompetence on Bush and Bremer's part for setting up the civil war.

Only the most Naive could say they didn't see all this coming.

Now, given the POLITICAL USE of 9/11 for Just Plain Dumb ideas, resulting in a few hundred thousand dead, I say the cost/benefit analysis says, "the GOOD GUYS don't strike first", and we worry about arming our own citizens and drilling them in effective response. Maybe Katrina would have played out very differently if we paid any attention to Civil Fucking Defense.

I would agree that a model 94 in that caliber would be quite potent  but it is not a readily available cartridge.  My preference would be 30.06 for distance and an 870 for anything out to about 50 yards and .45 acp for the close work

Yeah, Wiki also says the base was bombed nearly out of existence in the final days of the war.  Firsthand knowledge and all that.  I drank one night with a very old local man.  His limited English, my limited Japanese (it gets a little better after six or seven Sapporo's) and a bargirl helping out.  He told the same stories I heard around the base, and trained some of the pilots who did it.  Some books never get written, even when the story is true.

Honestly, based on your comprehension of what I say in these forums, I don't think all your reading is doing you much good.

Quite. Postman Cliff Clavin from Cheers exhausted me as well. There is a difference between knowing a lot and comprehending it. Clavin should have just drunk his beer and delivered the mail.

I probably covered a lot of ground, sorry for any confusion, but by my statements, it's pretty clear where I stand.

New York is funny about handguns. Your mileage varies based on county of residence and connectedness within that county. I don't bother, and just use a carbine loaded in a handgun caliber. One day, maybe it'll be dual use, but as it stands, it's a great non-contraversial configuration, (i.e.: NOT ASSAULT STYLE) . and I love the dual caliber for at the range, and with the little ones. They can handle a REAL rifle ( Trappers have the 16" barrel ) and fire a 38s, which won't spook anyone into a flinch.

Ya know, most people i know in the military (incld. 3 friends and 2 fam. members in Iraq/Afganastan now as i speak) all say the same thing to me. If they were made to go : ie. The draft durin Nam, then yea, they can understand the rallying and protesting. But they all say themselves even though some may not want to be there, they knew there was always a chance that a war would happen so therefore, they took that chance for a reason. And i personally think it's really crappy of people to stand against what they are doing for us. If we are against what they are doing, we are against them, therefore they fight and die for nothing but our selfish pity.
Just my opinion.

gladio anyone?
and....
A hardcopy of "FM 30-31B, Stability Operations, Intelligence - Special Fields" was among material provided to Cryptome in May 2001 by the US Army Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM) responding to a Freedom of Information Act request for a dossier entitled "Disinformation Directed Against US, File Number ZF010868W:"

http://cryptome.org/fm30-31b/FM30-31B.htm]

actual manual 1/2 way down

The U.S. Army now claims the document was a Russian forgery. Journalist Allan Francovich in his BBC documentation on Gladio and US/NATO "special operations" terrorism, asked Ray Cline, CIA deputy director from 1962 to 1966

In any crime you look at history and motive, The British government has been caught in multiple examples of carrying out bombings in London which were then blamed on the IRA. They even had one of their own  MI5 agents wihin the Omagh bomb squad. click here for an archive of this evidence.

I am not opposed to the people in the military doing their job.

I am opposed to the mentally deficient simian who sent them to do his fool's bidding.

I dont really appreciate it when people say I am opposed to the troops.  I was in a store down south and the person in front of me was trying to buy (a lot of) beer.  He told the cashier that he and his buddies were shipping out to Iraq the next day.  His ATM card didnt work.  So they sat puzzled at the register.  I told the cashier to put it on my tab.

The guy asked how he could thank me.

I told him to have him and all his friends come home safe.

I dunno, it could be legit, but "I'm shipping out tomorrow" is the oldest scam in the service.  Troops have been using that line to get laid and drunk for a LONG time.

If you want to be sure you are actually helping, put together a nice care package.  They appreciate canned soup, baby wipes, DVD's, books and good 2-ply toilet paper.  Since you don't seem to know anybody who has chosen to serve their country, pick a unit and address the package to 'First Sergeant' and the unit number. He'll make sure it goes to someone who could use it.
