Hey All,

I found this old thread...
http://www.collarchat.com/m_34709/mpage_1/key_pagan/tm.htm

But it's from years ago!  [&:]

I've been involved with earth based spiritualities, ritual, and magical training (in groups and alone) from the age of 15.  My discovery of BDSM came relatively later, less than 2 years ago, but I found Myself incredibly well prepared to step into My Domliness [:D]

Have others found similar crossover?

There is a large sub-culture crossover between the renn/geek/gaming/spirituality/poly communities.

Yes. In fact, I just came from a Master/slave conference that is heavy on the spirituality of BDSM.

So, did you come from alternative spirituality to alternative sexuality, or the other way around?!

Were there talents or techniques learned during magical training, that have proved useful in BDSM?

Good morning LA. You are wrong you know.

The fact that i was raised a Druid, fight modified broadsword at Ren fairs, had a lifelong crush on Captain Kirk, know what TARDIS stands for and am 1/2 way through am amazing quest on Never Winter Nights and live in a poly household means absolutely nothing!

LMAO.......

MasterFireMaam -> RE: Ritual, Magic, Pagan Spirituality (2/3/2007 8:04:18 AM)

I came to alternative spirituality through SM and Ms, not sex. I'm not a witch, so I have no formal magical training. The path really blossomed after I attended the Dance of Souls three SWLC conferences ago. I already felt I was spiritually called to be a Master and had been using piercing as a ritual...plus my Christian background included speaking in tongues, so something a little off-beat wasn't too off-beat for me personally. I did energy work at the Dance I didn't know I could do (nor did I have a clue that I was really doing it). When I got home, I was totally raw and stayed that way for a week. It became clear that I needed to look into the energy stuff if I wanted to correct it...so I did...and that started me down the path. It's only now that I'm beginnnig to look at sex as a spiritual outlet...and it's only now that I'm starting to combine sex and SM/Ms. I always seem to do things different...bass-ackwards if I can. LOL

Thank you for your input :)

nephandi -> RE: Ritual, Magic, Pagan Spirituality (2/4/2007 7:11:33 PM)

i am a chaos magician, my Master is a charistian mystic, so yes there is alot of spirituality in our household and everything, D/s and all, get influenced by it, and it get influenced by all we do. Aslo i think pepole in alternative lifestyles more often is open to other alternative lifestyles. So if one is already a little on the side of mainstream by being a magick user, it is more easy to acsept BDSM and D/s and so on.

CrazyC -> RE: Ritual, Magic, Pagan Spirituality (2/4/2007 9:56:29 PM)

Actually, i never put the two together really. My path is my form of spirituality. Where BDSM, is more where i find more full fillment in my relationships.

hisannabelle -> RE: Ritual, Magic, Pagan Spirituality (2/4/2007 10:22:56 PM)

i'm submissive, poly, enjoy computer games (muds and the occasional pc game), am interested in renfaires and the sca but haven't really gotten involved due to lack of time, am pagan with lots of buddhist flavoring and have studied both for quite some time now, oh, and i'm a computer geek. crossover, what?

honestly, i think the openness of my spirituality allowed for me to become more open with my concept of relationship - perhaps if my spirituality had been different, i'd be monogamous and vanilla. but that's not entirely true either...there are lots of people of all different faiths into bdsm. for me, i'm sure it played a part, but it won't for everyone. for Him, i know it did also - we are both buddhist, and i have a long history of pagan belief and practice as well. His spirituality and sexuality are practically inseparable (although not all of His spiritual approaches to sexuality are quintessentially buddhist).

Very interesting  :o)

And do you feel that it is easier to speak with those in vanilla life who are trained magically or following an earth based spirituality, or both?  [8|]  That they are more open minded?

Since becoming involved in BDSM, I am surprised how many I speak to in this lifestyle have simply never put a thought to their spirituality.  Particularly for, say, males who are into Female Supremacy or ladies who enjoy being adored.

LadyEllen -> RE: Ritual, Magic, Pagan Spirituality (2/6/2007 10:48:53 AM)

I know quite a few ladies and guys into Femdom, and to be frank I've had to learn not to bring the subject of spirituality and so on up! One cant shut them up talking about it once they get going; its good because they have given a lot of thought to it all, but not so easy because they havent quite given enough thought to it or lack the knowledge and experience to discuss it coherently. But then in this day and age, its great to find anyone who will talk about it and has done at least some thinking.

We are both Pagans/Wiccan and also involved in BDSM.  We were into BDSM first and then found the spiritual side of things and started following the Pagan/Wiccan side.

angaothsi -> RE: Ritual, Magic, Pagan Spirituality (2/6/2007 11:03:16 AM)

Magick is a tool which can be used by any religion. Many Witches do not use magick. Traditional Witchcraft is the continuation of anglo-saxon or european pre-christian belifes and practices. While one may be used along with the other they do not always go hand in hand.

As for the OP, I think often times people who are invloved in alternitive faith systems are more open and less confined by the dogmatic teachings of what sex should and should not be.

Yes, to a point. I know many of those on the pagan path are very open about thier sexuality, be it BDSM or vanilla, since sexuallity is actually veiwed as a sacred thing. The groups i am involved in actually love talking about it and learning from each other's point on the subject.

Chavayeen -> RE: Ritual, Magic, Pagan Spirituality (2/6/2007 11:11:00 AM)

Has anyone encountered bdsm when they ventured over to "the other side"? (I'm not sure how many people here make that sort of journey.)
In one shamanic journey, I had a surprising (and nasty) bdsm encounter. My teacher later warned me about this kind of power exchange--very seductive, but she thought also dangerous.
I have encountered this particular spirit again (who has become an important teacher) but on a much less intense level. And was able to "follow-up" on some of the bdsm stuff IRL, which was an interesting outcome of that journey.

CrazyC -> RE: Ritual, Magic, Pagan Spirituality (2/6/2007 11:17:03 AM)

ahhhh....I'm jealous!

Can't think of the name of it right now, but have heard about it. Just never learned that skill.

on the whole, about some topics, yes, i do find that i tend to speak more easily with fellow pagans, heathens, buddhists, and chaotic type folks ;) however, i've met very closeminded buddhists and very openminded catholics, so the opposite isn't all that unusual :)

bludemonn -> RE: Ritual, Magic, Pagan Spirituality (2/6/2007 4:41:19 PM)

This is a most interesting post, I do feel people who are deeper in contemplation will inevitably find themselves being, as you said, open minded enough to atleast look into their desires and their spirituality, I do however find it sad that some people into BDSM & any form of spirituality or indeed religion tend to be very clicky and laugh at those who are new to these things. There is a correlation between the need to indulge ones lustful desires and the need to become pure again with the practice of spiritualism. If we can go back in time we have alot of instances where priests, vicars and other holymen have doubled their lives with witch-craft, satanic ritual, paganism and ofcourse many forms of sado-masochistic activity. You have definately given food for thought.
