Lorelei115 -> Does it matter THAT much? (2/4/2007 12:55:24 PM)

Hello! I have a quick question, would like you all's (especially male submissives) opinions on it.

We all know that having a picture in your profile can make or break whether someone decides to contact you or respond to you, but is the TYPE of picture also important when deciding whether to contact someone or not?

The deal for me is this. I recently starting looking for a male submissive again. I wasn't getting many responses, so I was kinda wondering if something was up or if I had worded something wrong that might be scaring people off.

I had a friend (also a male submissive) look over my profile, and he said that although the profile itself was good, the picture would probably dissuade people from contatcting me. I don't know if any of you remember, but my last profile picture was me with a budgie perched on my head. Now personally, thats one of my favorite pictures because not only is it a good face shot of me, I thought it also displayed my personality and sense of humor quite well.

Do you think a picture like that would generally keep someone from responding, or is that just my friend's perception?

BabyNyla -> RE: Does it matter THAT much? (2/4/2007 1:01:36 PM)

It has kept me from replying to some Doms ... as well as some subs when I dommed.  It just depends on the pic and how it seems they're displaying themselves.  I guess I am a sucker for modesty.  But I don't think there's anything wrong with your pics :) and a sense of humor is always a plus ... but a lot of people here tend to lack that at times, unfortunately.

Actually, yes, I think it might. People can be very serious about this whole business and a dominant with a sense of humor.. ack! Noooooo!

That said, I think the people it will keep away might not be the best match for you if humor is important to you and bottom line, if 'you' like the picture, don't worry about who else doesn't. For me, unusual attracts me and I would find that unusual and be more likely to at least stop and read the profile then pass it by.

Celeste

*laughing* See, that's what I thought! I did put up a more "serious" pic and it has gotten me more responses, but I'm wondering if I should put the other one back up and let it weed through those without a sense of humor~!

bandit25 -> RE: Does it matter THAT much? (2/4/2007 1:07:45 PM)

Not again...you didn't get the budgie memo either?  EVERYONE loves the budgie pic...in fact, I was wondering who the hell this Lorelei115 sans budgie was...imposter!

Lorelei115 -> RE: Does it matter THAT much? (2/4/2007 1:08:43 PM)

Someone is sneaking into my computer and stealing all my memos, I swear. [:D]

bandit25 -> RE: Does it matter THAT much? (2/4/2007 1:11:06 PM)

They must be...Ok, here's what we do.  Make a new mailbox as Lorelei114 (see the difference?).  Put a parrot on your head and snap a pic.  Then, upload the pic to the Lorelei114 mailbox and I'll start sending memos there as a diversion.  While those hackers are busy stealing the "fake" Lorelei's memos, I'll send you the real ones.  Whaddya think?

Lorelei115 -> RE: Does it matter THAT much? (2/4/2007 1:13:23 PM)

Hmm... could be a plan.. now I just have to find a camera and a parrot...

MiladyElaine -> RE: Does it matter THAT much? (2/4/2007 1:14:30 PM)

I can't seem to find any with a nice, contented smile.
They all seem to be in a police lineup or partying with a booze- lit glow about them!

obis -> RE: Does it matter THAT much? (2/4/2007 1:14:47 PM)

I have a similar main profile picture -- I think it accurately represents my personality more than a photo of me looking stern would. I'm quite certain that there have been a few subs who didn't write to me because that picture didn't fit their notion of what a dom should look like. Like Celeste, I think that filtering out someone who expects me to be a tough guy 24/7 is a good thing, even if it means the occasional girl slips past who simply doesn't have enough real life experience to know what a good thing having a well-rounded personality is on a dom [;)]

bandit25 -> RE: Does it matter THAT much? (2/4/2007 1:16:22 PM)

Even better, find a submissive man with a camera and a parrot.

Oh yea.. GO BEARS!

Aileen68 -> RE: Does it matter THAT much? (2/4/2007 1:20:38 PM)

I liked your picture and thought that your personality did come out through it.
I'd keep it up since the end result will be finding someone that likes it too...thus likes you.
Go Colts!

bandit25 -> RE: Does it matter THAT much? (2/4/2007 1:24:26 PM)

Just for that, Aileen, I'm sending a truckload of monkeys to your house.  Oh yeah, and I'm sending them COD!

kneedeep -> RE: Does it matter THAT much? (2/4/2007 1:24:28 PM)

NOOOO!

Have had respones to my profile that i would not have got if my photo had not been a bit of a joke!!

Now talking to a (hopeful....this time)  just because she hated my pic!!

nyrisa -> RE: Does it matter THAT much? (2/4/2007 1:30:15 PM)

I think the parrot on the head would be ok, but an eye patch and a wooden peg leg would be WAY over the top. *grins*

bandit25 -> RE: Does it matter THAT much? (2/4/2007 1:35:09 PM)

Wait a minute!  I'm liking this visual.  Parrott, pegleg, eyepatch, standing with one foot on top of a pirate's chest.  Good visual!  Maybe we can get Stephen Speilberg to direct!  Only one problem...if we send Lorelei a memo on the location of the shoot, she prolly won't get it.

Lorelei115 -> RE: Does it matter THAT much? (2/4/2007 1:37:55 PM)

Besides, it would have to be a very special pirate to let me stand on his chest.

toservez -> RE: Does it matter THAT much? (2/4/2007 1:46:05 PM)

Everyone is on some level a visual creature. Men maybe more so but women are as well too. Certainly in my search some pictures turned me off. I remember one picture of a person clearly been drinking, unshaven and holding up a dead fish he probably had just caught and there was probably no over coming that picture.

That being said, if your goal is to find the right person and not just get responses an accurate picture of you and what you think would show your personality I would think might be a good thing. I am sorry but maybe the picture that got fewer reactions had other issues? Maybe it was in poor lighting, the pose was unflattering or something.

I guess to me it is probably middle ground. Want to see a picture that is flattering but not a picture that looks like the person spent hours on their appearance and it was professionally lit.

topkat757 -> RE: Does it matter THAT much? (2/4/2007 2:15:15 PM)

Saw the picture and thought to myself that this lady has w really good sinse of hunor. my draw back as a newbie with out any traingat all is that I am in Va an hoping to find some R.T. training but it has to be the right feeling from both sides D/s still if eople take life to seriously it not good healyh either the picture should stay with one addition of you in your fineist domme out fit or some such post that denotes you domminat side too. just a thought

BRNaughtyAngel -> RE: Does it matter THAT much? (2/4/2007 3:24:02 PM)

I didn't look at your profile, but if you have a sense of humor and want someone who will appreciate it, make sure you put it in there (if you haven't already).

I have a quirky, fun sense of humor and couldn't handle a dominant that didn't appreciate that or have one himself.  I put that in my profile, that I wanted a dominant who could make me laugh, but knew how and when to get serious.

My Master does comedy and has noooooooo problem getting serious with me. [sm=whoa.gif]

Definitely be truthful in how you portray yourself and that will weed out the poopheads who were either born without the humor gene, or had it removed surgically through their ass. [;)] [sm=lol.gif]
