I do not know many people that have no work ethic. They may not want to do the jobs that they can find, but I really cannot blame someone for not wanting to do a shit job. I have had to do more than one job in my life that I could not wait to get the hell out of, and I found something better. By your standard I suppose a lot of us would be "unemployable". Frankly I would do without a lot of extras to keep from doing some of the jobs I have had to do, like hotel maid, dishwasher, cocktail waitress (although that did pay extremely well even though it was shitty).

It goes back to welfare reform, like it is not work to live off welfare as a single mom alone. Like being a mom is not work. The real purpose of welfare reform was to give employers a low paid workforce that was legal, desperate, and that would make them eligible for significant taxbreaks. Never mind that less than one percent of our tax dollars went into welfare, and we are probably paying more for these "tax incentives" to "induce" employers to hire these women at minimum wage... it is always screw me and you, and have us bicker over it by blaming each other for being "lazy"

Status: offline 		     I'm glad you haven't had to encounter any of them, Julia.  I assure you, they are are out there.  The condition isn't always permanent, but while it lasts...   Let's just say the cigarettes keep my strangling hand busy.  Guys who show up in brand new boots they don't want to get dirty, who think a hangover is a legitimate reason for a no-call sick day, who know every feature on the latest cell phone but can't find a dipstick....  But they know their rights.

To the best of my recollection, The Romans are the only non-indigenous invading force ever to win a extended guerrilla war of occupation against a people whose hearts and minds were opposed to their occupiers – They killed every single Carthaginian they could find, including the civilians. {By all means correct me if I am wrong}  

The war in Iraq is over....what you see happening right now is nothing more than a vile attempt to hold on to a little territory that a few Zionists, robber barons and a handful of imperialists think they have gained. The best way to support our troops and this country is to bring them home and let the Iraqi people mend their own fences.

Of course there are other subsets of unemployable too, the perpeutialy drunk, the drugged, the downright stupid, the "stress" sufferers to name a few.

Meat, no, I can't say I have noticed the work ratios you claim, I am very close to the top of my company (second only to the owner of the company), an 80 hour week is a short one for me, it means I actually took a day or two off. My boss spent a grand total of 23 nights at home last year with flying all around the world to set up contracts so the rest of us peons could do enough work to draw a pay check. Then there are all the people on hourly tickets, 35 hours a week and incentives to persuade them to occasionaly stay an extra hour a couple of times a month. If I got paid the same rates I would earn almost 3 times my current wages. If you want to get into all the extra benefits they get too, well it would be even more in my favour to pull these hours on a filing clerks pay scheme.

Perhaps you are in the wrong job or perhaps it is British management that is the problem as it still can't manage to attain German and French efficiency rates even though Brits work longer hours than the average western European.

if the US goes down- much of the world goes down as well.

I am astounded bush dares to ask for fast track.

The numbers speak for themself.

CEOs done well. the peons havent.

The scary thing is when bush thumbed his nose at the rule of law.  might makes right.   it sets a bad precedent.   we lost alot of credibility via this.

heres how to tell how you as a person fairs. if there were 2 of the exact YOU, would the world be a better place? if not- clean up your act.

as far  as a crumbling empire goes...i resent- that the "empire" my dad, uncles and grandfather fought for - and earned the US a high standard of living- is squanderred on greed and multi-national corporate interests= the ruling elite.

My generation rides the coat tails of the ww2 heros.

Or perhaps it is that I work for a company that is not the bunch of capitalist slave drivers that is expected. Perhaps it is a company with senior staff that have a moral and ethical code different from most in the street.

As for effiency, I think a pretty small company that turns over £1million sterling per employee per annum with pay grades and benefit packages that exceed all industry norms can hardly be called ineffecient, especially as we are not a company developing hi-tech solutions to liscence out, nor are we dealing in rare commodoties such as gemstones, and we sure dont just speculate on currency or stock variations.

this country has been taken over, actually a long time ago.  Thanks to the internet we can have thsi big ole rap and chat session that previous ages could not.  Share info share data compare notes.  bust their asses.  The fact is that the constitution has been subvverted and this country has in place for several years the 10 planks of the communist manifesto.   thats right look it up and weep.  Its only now when a dumb ass like butt head gets up there and as you said thumbs is nose at the rule of law that we are at least startting to open our eyes a bit as to whats really going on, and frankly has been going on for years.  Our constitution has been undermined and subverted by the very people we swear in to protect it!  That my friends is high treason and not one but several in gov in years past are guilty.

Yes the empire is crumbling when you can't even win over half the cases you bring against tax protesters or avoiders. Yes the empire is crumbling whe the whole world awaits the next election, and might even influence it more than those who can vote it it ! And the rest of the world hopes for drastic changes.

Well stated Ranger, the point is, WHEN are we going to bring our troops home from Iraq and what will bringing them home cost us in
the long run? Can we just bring them home and that's that?  I doubt it at this point.  My question as always is, why is it just the USA and Israel seemingly at war in the Middle East?

Because it is only the US and Israel with a problem!

But thanks, perhaps my fellow Brits will notice that Americans don't realise we have been fighting too and maybe they will realise we are only being used by America as a diplomatic figleaf for American interests. I don't think our troops should be there at all, siding on one side of the conflict or the other is not in our interests and France and Germany's positions are probably the best.

Hate to disagree with you here, but the reason there are seatbelt and helmet laws is to protect everybody else, not to enslave the dumbass that wants to be free to ride his machine and not be hassled by the man.

Get into a car or motorcycle crash with a seatbelt or helmet, probably get broken up some, go home, recover.

Get into one without it, become a semi-vegetative body languishing under expensive medical care paid for by the state for 30 years.

I vote for those laws because I dont want to pay good money so some cretin can make me pay to keep his body alive.  I would also vote for a law that stated anybody who drives without a seatbelt or a helmet and gets into an accident is simply left at the side of the road by the paramedics until their friends or family come scoop them up.  Im not even willing to pay dead animal cleanup.
