I'm starting a project where I need to be able to slightly stiffen silk fabric. I need it to be clear and not make the colors of the fabric run in any way. It also needs to be lightweight. The fabric itself will be in small pieces not in large sections. Anyone know of any product that would do this? Thanks

Wouldn't starch wear away? It needs to be permanent.

If you can back the fabric with light weight interfacing or follow the link and try a liquid stiffner. This stuff works great. http://www.fabricorigami.com/shop/stiffy.html

I have some silk undies...they seem to be fairly rigid from my cum. It also seems to dry rather clear..(domiguy licks silk undies)...Must have had a burrito...that day. out. D.G. p.s. Jesus please protect me from your followers.

If you were using any other fabric but silk.....silk is touchy, I'd be leery of putting anything wet on it, since it stains so easily. (Go ahead, make comments[:D]). I think the lightweight iron-on interfacing would be the better way to go, used with a dry iron, not on steam setting. Or, if you check at the fabric store, they might be able to recommend something better.

The only problem with the interfacing is that the fabric is going to be seen from both sides. I'm making a silk mobile with wire and silk as the only two materials. I think I may have to just do trial and error.

Put the silk on both sides.

Yes although I primarily walk the hard streets of Chicago...Going commando...Occssionally...my nuts like to be treated like royalty....And nothing says your Highness to my hanging ball sack like a subs open mouth or a nice fluffy and yet some how incredibly domly pair of silk undies.... Too heavy and would be nearly impossible to match up the shapes. I need it to be as light as possible. I'm using extremely thin gauge wire.

Perhaps you should build a rigid frame and then stretch the silk over the frame. Roll the silk around the edges and glue it to itself.

I need to (at least in my head I think I do)cut the shapes out before I stiffen them. They're going to be in the shape of Japanese Maple leaves...so intricate.

I'm making a large mobile of wire and silk leaves for over my dining room table. And my aereolas are beautifully round, thank you very much.

I'm not positive on the spelling but craft stores carry a whole line of products by Alene [sp?] for fabric. Not just iron on adhesive but sprays n such, they may have something that is transparent and permanent.
