Whilst we do have strong employment protection laws in the UK, thats not to say you cant be "encouraged" to leave, should you be discovered to be "undesirable".

Of course, you could then sue, and never get another job anywhere because no prospective new employer wants trouble makers in their business who might sue them - and thats if they never got to hear the publicity over why one was encouraged to leave and is suing.

Or, one could swallow it down, hope to God that it never gets out and proceed to find another job.

If anyone thinks its all liberal over here and its no one's business what one gets up to away from work, they are naive. Involvement in bdsm, along with several other types of activity is something that the small minded, apathetic, ignorant morons of the UK (c. 90% of the population) always find titillating, and there is no employer who, whilst trying to promote their brand, wants to be known as "that place the perverts work".

Well, I think we're in the realms of opinions rather than law.

Personally, I think, as a nation, we've moved beyond that. Can you imagine someone being sacked or given the cold shoulder in Britain for being gay? No chance. For indulging in a spot of BDSM, no chance. There is a British version of this site and most people have a picture on their profile which tells a story.

How odd! i just pulled my picture off due to privacy issues. And i know of a Master and His slave that just removed ones that showed T/their faces. i personally know teachers, doctors, attorney, political, law enforcement..... OO i should mention- i have met Them true- yet usually for dinner or coffee. Also an alternative sight here in CA are still on the message boards with an odd statement one "member?" (unclear if He was- but- oh yes Y/you got it! He sent me an email) Anyhow from all i can understamnd is He entered a munch or gathering and in some way announced He was with the federal gov't and was collecting info? me? i would have thought serving those little party weenies on a stick would have been a better way to collect data on a group. Less cause for alarm, a s/sl carrying a trayful of weenies and a hidden mic? Or is it me? oo i just of another name for the littleweenie on a stick. Anyhow it seems to be an un noticed trend latey. One of several.

This is my standard answer to this question. Collar me is not Alt. On Alt you have to basically be a member to look at pictures. Collar me shows who ever happens to view the website, pictures (BIG PICTURES) of who was ever on last last or most recent. You do not have to be a member here to view pictures. There is a site that I found once that is not about BDSM but about how to knit things. It is called Collar me as well.

If I am to be outted, it will be my doing and not beacuse someone happened across my picture on a web site. I do not have a big problem with certain people knowing my sexual life, but there are limites to this.

If someone wants to see what I look like I will gladly send a picture. But really.....people who do not show their picture have that right. It's not that hard to send an email asking for a picture is it?

I only had a few pictues originaly, but then i lost all but one when my hard disk suddenly stop working (careless i know). At present the only pic i have is a full face that was taken on a old camare phone which makes my nose look like H.M.S Victory. So you'll have to wait i'm affraid til i sort one out, when i do i'll get it straight on.

For some i think it could be the prospect of people around them that they know offline coming across there profile online and the prospect of possible predujdice or piss taking that could result from such a find. I've have seen this happen to some one, not from this site though and not to me. They may just want to avoid that arquard situation.

Yeh i heard about these new law as well, although i don't know if they have been implimented yet. I can't help but vaigely remember the saying "you have freedom of speach to express your views and opinions, so long as they do not conflict with those of the state.".

Going further off topic i know, but does any one know why in britain you can legally have sex at 16 but you can't buy any thing that contains things of a sexual nature with in it. e.i. porn.

Everybody has already gone over the work reason why.  Yes, in the states it does happen from time to time.  I know teachers who have been outed and have kept their jobs.  I also know 2 that have lost them over the years when outed.
Depends on the school district but too risky to even take that chance.

Some of us don't have our photo on our profile because we don't want people hitting on us on the other side.  Simple as that.
It has cut down on the amount of mail I receive and I am grateful for that.

This has happened to me, but luckly it was a prior friend who was interested in me.

Yes I can imagine people being sacked for being gay. Yes I can imagine people being sacked for being involved in BDSM. Yes I am in the UK. I am amazed if you think these things do not happen here in the UK. Perhaps you are lucky not to have come across anything like this but believe me it happens.

If you are talking about IC as the UK version of this site then yes there are plenty of people with pictures on their profiles. There are also plenty that do not have pictures for the same reasons that have been mentioned here. If you actually did a count on either site I think you would find it equal percentage wise to the number here that do not have pictures.

I, personally, can't have a profile at this time, because i am going through court stuff with my daughter in a conservative county. The last thing i need is for someone to find this profile, and me loose the chance of having her. Since this is a personal reason i have decided to not have a profile, i find it kind of insencitive of those who can't understand that some of us just can't.

We have our reasons, and would hope you can respect those reasons.

Well, I haven't counted them so can't say with any certainty but my impression is far more on IC.

Do you have any examples? I'd be very surprised if it is as you say. For one thing, company law protects workers from discrimination. It will be an eye-opener to learn this sort of thing does actually take place in Britain.

From my employment contract

Grounds for disciplinary action include but not limited to
g) Unprofessional conduct or otherwise indulging in actions that could bring the company into disrepute
 
Its a very good catchall, very similar to "conduct unbecoming" in military law, and legally watertight too.

Disciplinary action can include
Informal verbal warning
Formal verbal warning
Written warning
Dismissal
Where a breach of contract is sufficiently severe the action can commence at any level, including instant dismissal
 
Now my boss knows who and what I am, but should certain clients find out that could not bode well and cost the company a great deal of money, for example if I were an animal rights activist, and a client was a drug testing lab, I would be out of here like nothing ever seen should the client notice, doubly so if my boss was unaware of my stance.

There are laws against sexual discrimination in the British workplace.

As an example, there was a recent high profile case where a gay man was being harrassed by work colleagues (he wasn't sacked, by the way). He took his company to court and won damages on the grounds that the company were lax in coming to his aid to stop the taunts.

IMO, this is a fairly good example showing to support the case that Britain is tight on sexual orientation based harrassment and discrimination in the work place.

The chances of being sacked in Britain are slim to none unless a company wants to fork out damages.

I accept there is a risk of unnecessary aggravation from work colleagues so you weigh it up and decide whether or not it's worth it. For me, I can't imagine anyone I work with, or have ever worked with, giving a flying one about what I do in my private life. Genuinely.

I got a picture in profile because i'm careless about people finding "what " i am. Also because the picture is from a far angle and no one can really recognize me (i've change a lot since this photography)

I understand that it is an issue for people who are in court for custody problems or others . Who need more problems?

Maybe if i was working for  the cops, a gouvernment or something like that i would pay more attention of my "behaviours" but as long as i'm working as a cashier in a grocery store; let's get outted.

under my former collarme name, i had pictures (nothing suggestive or revealing any skin) and i would receive lewd messages in my bulk mail from doms and submissives wondering if i was up for some playtime with them.

now under my new name, i was thinking of posting picture or two but decided not to. even though it states that i'm not seeking another i know it won't stop them from sending messages.
