I though this might be a fun topic, so, I'll go first.

Katherine, from Shakespear's Taming of the Shrew. I'm fiery, I'm strong, I'm smart, and I'm fairly vocal. Kate, not unlike myself, finds that her need to find a man conflicts at times with her ability to express herself, and the very expression can be off putting to potential suitors. Most people think she's something other than she is, i.e. a bitch rather than desireable.

My fire, my utter contempt for those who don't value my abilities and would much prefer abject docility have not always won me big points. In fact, those qualities have sometimes been mistaken for "Dominance." There's really nothing that pisses me off more ~grin~.

Enter Katherine's Petruccio. To the naked eye, this guy is pretty much a dick. He's selfish, self-centered, equally as articulate and smart as Kate and he's got the arrogance to not only not hide these qualities, but to sidle up to her and let her know, directly. It is his ability to stand face to face, accept that he's not only her equal, but her better and that she's going to be his wife, that ultimately tames the famous shrew. Her ability to comply with his will and subjugate herself to him, is ultimately what she's been waiting for. She's been waiting for the man with the ability to take her in hand.

Maybe we are all waiting for our Petruccio in one way or another?

Lily

Gee Lily,
You start with shakespeare, and I'm thinking tweety bird because he looks vulnerable and yet is very reliable/smart.
I used to be more like Juliet from Romeo and..., but am over that BS now. M

Alright, it's hard to find a fictional woman that I identify with completely, but I like to think I have much in common with Ms Emma Peel.

Emma Peel of The Avengers was a calm, cool and collected woman with tact and manners. She was a strong female character and at the same time understood seduction and its powers. She was sophisticated and sexy without being sleazy. She was sharp as a whip and stood up to all men, keeping her dignity and composure. She was respected, feared and desired… what a lovely combination!

Mind you, I'm a blonde and little more voluptuous then Ms Peel ;)

James Bond...but not the Bond from the Movies, the James Bond from the Ian Fleming books.

Casino Royale is a great book...dark...sad...romantic...downright kinky!!! Bond fails and has to have his ass saved by the CIA!!!

Either Robert Heinlein's Lazarus Long or Spider Robinson's Lady Sally.

Lazarus Long is sexually liberal while being quite opinionated and set in his ways, but not too stubborn to acknowledge an error and make it right.

Lady Sally is socially & sexually liberal with a clear understanding of her boundaries and how to police them - while quietly working towards some socially altruistic goal.

So it's a draw between a time traveling crotchety old guy who lives forever (and inevitably discovers he's his own father), or the time traveling Madame of a galactic house of seemingly ill repute.

For the record, I'd gladly hang Petruccio's tanned scrotum from my rear view mirror.

Martha from "The Changeling" by Zilpha Keatley Snyder. Except I never had an Ivy.

Or perhaps Witch Baby from Dangerous Angels by Francesca Lia Block.

I was wracking my brain for an answer to this, and then Protagonist_Lily made a suggestion that made me say oh HELL yes.

Tank Girl.

Hate to admit it...but I would have to say that with the shaved head, I do look a bit like Jean Luc Picard or Professor X.

What a great question. And there are so many fictional women (and a few men) i've identified with, i have a feeling this'll work better if i don't try to overanalyse it, so here are a few just off the top of my head:

O in Story of O. My heroine.

Carrie in Carrie's Story by Molly Weatherfield. A sassy smartmouth sub who gets herself sold into slavery and can appreciate the wonderful awfulness of what's being done to her? I'm so there.

Sugarpuss O'Shea in Ball of Fire, a great film from 1941. Barbara Stanwyck as a sassy smartmouth (those words again; coincidence?) nightclub singer/gangster moll who falls for Gary Cooper, a closet alpha male very well camouflaged among the Seven Dwarfs... Nope, no real resemblance to my life, she's just a great funny sexy broad who can tell a great kisser when she kisses one. (Cooper makes the back of her neck sweat! Ooh, chills...)

Tracy Lord in The Philadelphia Story. Katharine Hepburn as the sassy smartmouth (sheesh, i sense a pattern here) society girl who's about to throw herself away on the wrong guy when she discovers her beautiful ex (Cary Grant) is really the guy who makes her want to swear to be yare for him forever. Well, that's my life right there, minus the posh Mainline accent... Also she loves champagne and everything it does to her. (Yare is what a sailboat is when's she's fast, bright, responsive, "quick to the helm" and ready for anything, and yare is what i try to be every day for my skippers. Aye-aye, Sirs!)

And i don't only dig sassy smartmouth broads! O is never sassy or smartmouth at all, so there, except maybe when she's topping her girlfriends before handing them over to her owners like so much prey she's hunted down for them; her real motto is I'm yours, I'll do whatever you want, which is my motto too...

I've been told that I look like Lucy from the Peanuts Comic strip and that has merit to it. I'm often loud and totally mistaken. But I think I'm like Lily from the book The Secret Life of Bees Early in the book she says, "People who think dying is the worst thing, don't know a thing about life." And that, to me, describes my life.

For some reason you remind me of Will from Will & Grace, by your pic and the form in which you express yourself writing, i just picture Will (the straight version of course) : )

I have been told i look like Rikki Lake (ugh) i think i am a little bit like the actress from Mad About You, but i'm kinda like her character in As Good As It Gets, she was kinda of "out there" yet very sincere and humble, but very consumed with her problems and a lil on the neurotic side.... Helen Hunt, that's her name!

I always identify with the lead characters on the sideline like Jo from Little Women or Elinor from Sense and Sensibility. They are strong, good women who experience unrequited love that they eventually give up on. Then true love always prevails.
