While I'm not in a satisfying (or any) relationship right now, that's not why I come to these forums. I come because I can usually find something that will either make me laugh or inspire a pissed-off rant, which gives me inspiration to write.

I spend time here because it keeps me out of trouble until my Daddy comes home from Iraq.  If I don't hang out on the forums then I end up doing other things that get me in trouble ... so better to be safe than sorry :D

How many here spend their time here in the forums because they are not getting what they need in a BDSM relationship or session of sorts?

I've never had a "session of sorts" but it sounds kinky.  Can you describe it?

I spend time on the forums because it hones my skill in procrastination to a sharp edge.  Sometimes it gives me some good ideas, sometimes a giggle, but usually the dingy questions and threads just leave me frustrated.  It's a lot like listening to young adolescent girls talk about their fantasy knights in shining armor - cute for a couple minutes, then it gets kinda nauseating.   Then there's questions like yours ... [:)]  The answer is obviously, "A good many but not all."  But do you expect someone will answer, "I spend time here immersed in fantasy because I can't make it happen in reality?"

However, since I am procrastinating studying Spanish and Biology, it's all okay for the moment.  This afternoon's plan with my domle one include making a knock-out batch of lasagne from a secret and coveted recipe, picking out shore excursions for a trip we're taking, experimenting more with hog-tie and no doubt some play time that will include that horrible leather loopy j.  It's just an awful thing ... it's so terrible that I just can't stop thinking about it!!!

It's unlikely that we'll engage in any discussion about whether I'm a real and true whatever, or whether he's top, dom,  master, sadistic bastard, or whatever.   We'll also likely not talk about such things as my subliness, his domliness, ownership, contracts or any "What happens if?" sorts of discussion.

This evening will probably be a lot like last evening, chatting and watching TV, him in the comfy chair, me on pillows at his feet dressed in little more than a collar, leash and cuffs, except went I hop up to fetch him another beer or whatever.  Maybe I'll try to find a more comfortable setup since my tush kept falling asleep last night.  Then, in bed by midnight with sleepy warm-fuzzies and him - an altogether satisfying evening for me.

You can bet that when he's here with me, I'm not here with you.  But he wanted to scavage junk yards looking for an old car part, and that actually makes studying sound fun.  So, I guess at this very moment you could accurately say that I am not getting what I want, and that's why I'm here.  [;)]

HTH,

MaryT

Well, I don't know that I'd call it a 'need', more of a 'want'. I want to grow, to expand, explore. I want my ideas to be challenged, tested, to review what's out there, learn new things from a variety of sources, interact with a diverse population. There is only such much that can be learned from a single source and while Michael is an excellent source, he is, ultimately, still a single source. The forums (and munches and books and events and all the other venues I attend etc) are diverse, if nothing else. At times I'm humbled by the words I read here, other times I'm stunned by the depths and substance of the thoughts of some of the posters. There's silliness, cleverness, ineptitude, sarcasm and profound thinking ... I mean, it's all here for the taking. My universe is minute, this one is expansive. My universe has but two souls within it, this one has multitudes. I take from here (greedy bitch that I am) and bring what I read into my world, share it with Himself, it allows us to continue our own exploration by communicating ideas we had not thought of ourselves. I learn from here and, on occasion, I believe I teach a thing or two. In the end it's the old adage.. two heads are better than one and I've got this 'thing' for hydras. ::grins::

lovely words... damn near as lovely as the girl that wrote them.

I sspend time here because it's a more intelligent distraction than TV, although I question that sometimes.

cjenny -> RE: Forums or real life? (2/10/2007 11:11:07 AM)

Actually I spend so much time here because I am usually in bed. It makes for a nice connection to the outside world. TV drives me nuts & I am out of books... so here I am!

orfunboi -> RE: How many here spend their time here in the forums because they are not getting what they need in a B (2/10/2007 11:15:58 AM)

i come to the forums cause they can be entertaining and i'm sick of playing WOW or going for Pogo badges. i don't feel i have anything lacking in my life and am not sure how reading forums would help that anyway. i suppose if i lived in a situation where i could not get out and interact with others of the lifestyle, then i would have to turn to the internet. But luckily for me, there are a number of activities in the area and it isn't necessary.

sensualmagirl -> RE: Forums or real life? (2/10/2007 11:17:30 AM)

~fast reply~

For me, it's about getting enlightening information and ideas to bring into my own world as well as entertaining.

As a newbie, I find the the sage advice from many of the posters here (BitaTruble, LA, SimplyMichael are but a small few that spring to mind) fantastic.  I also have had many of my questions answered.  I've also been able to take ideas that I may not have thought of and talked them over with my Master to get his opinion, which has also lead to many a great topics of conversation for us!

Also, a lot of the posts are quite entertaining, there's a few cast of characters here that I really look forward to reading their posts because they make me laugh!  Makes me wish I had more friends open and honest and funny like that!

And, I'm totally addicted to the song title game... lol! [;)]

You have covered all the reasons why I read the forms...great words.... amazing woman.

sleazybutterfly -> RE: Forums or real life? (2/10/2007 11:20:48 AM)

I am only here when Master isn't around, if he is here I am usually cuddled on the couch next to him (or bound and gagged on the bed)..either way, its all good.

puella -> RE: How many here spend their time here in the forums because they are not getting what they need in a B (2/10/2007 11:42:48 AM)

I am wholly unsure why you only gave two, quite negatively slanted options to chose from?

I am, and always have been a 'thinker'.  To fuel that, I read vociferously and participate in this and several other forums, as well as engage in conversation in various other avenues in my normal day to day life. I am also of the opinion that unless you engage intellectually with others, the chance of your actually learning (much less anything outside of your own personally chosen spectrum) is pretty unlikely.  Breadth of knowledge as well as depth of knowledge is something worth pursuing, as I see it.

Are on-line forums the only place that I (and most likely many of the other posters here) subscribe to in my life?  Of course not.  I am an active participant in several political groups, I volunteer, I chair several committees, I host local talk radio program, and interact with friends and family very regularly.

It is an anathema to me why people always think that if you participate in the forums you must 'have no life'.  I also maintain that identifying with BDSM in your life has much less to do with what others do to you (or what you wish they did) and what you do to others, than who you are as a person and how that manifests itself in your entire life.

If you are defining yourself by who owns you or the person beating your ass for the next 15 minutes (reverse positions for dominant types)... you have more important issues to deal with than participating in an intellectual debate on-line; and the fact that you are not in the forums does little to prove any sort of  inherent 'fulfillment'.

The number of well informed, diverse and stimulating posters to these forums, of various states of relationship bliss, pretty much proves that you do not need to be posting here because no one wants to bind you to the bed posts and 'do their thing'.

Missokyst -> RE: How many here spend their time here in the forums because they are not getting what they need in a B (2/10/2007 11:48:49 AM)

I spend time in the forums because I am no longer in a relationship.  It kills time between jobs.

I'm sure there's a few. And by the way...that isn't necessarily a bad thing; maybe the reason they are not getting what they need from a BDSM relationship is because they were recently in one and are now out...perhaps they are not in a session because, as has been noted on here, casual partners are not all that easy to find and for the last reason cited or a different one, they are not interested in pursuing a long term relationship just yet...etc., etc., etc..

Given the number of your own postings, I find it somewhat puzzling as to why your post comes across as vaguely accusatory.

greeneyes1962 -> RE: How many here spend their time here in the forums because they are not getting what they need in a B (2/10/2007 12:01:03 PM)

I spend time here, because it's a good source of information and idea exchange.

DominaSmartass -> RE: How many here spend their time here in the forums because they are not getting what they need in a B (2/10/2007 12:03:27 PM)

Sorry, not me. I am on here because I work a job where I'm online 10 hours a day and I like to read and post in the background of my work because you know, that's what you do at work ;)

One reason I'm here is because this isn't somrthing I talk about otherwise, another is that yes, I am looking for a relationship.

Tslaveboy -> RE: How many here spend their time here in the forums because they are not getting what they need in a B (2/10/2007 12:05:13 PM)

I'm here because I like the information and I'd like to become better at being a submissive in BDSM.
