Everytime I read these posts, I too am reminded of comical stories... they are such little funny friends...

When Baboo was a kitten, I had to work late one night, I come home to find Baboo soaking wet from the neck down sitting waiting for me at the door with this look on his face like "help me!" -- Mind you, he's a maine coon, very fluffy, and as a kitten, was nothing but a big fuzzy ball of fur... Apparently, my ltr/vanilla partner had taken a bath, and for some reason he decided not to drain the water right away and Baboo must have fallen in and luckily jumped out right away... had to give him a bath in the sink (luckily, he was still little) and give him a blow-dry and style

LadyEllen, you reminded me of these two:

oh, too funny!!!  we adopted a stray from the San Francisco SPCA one time & were sure that she had been going through dumpsters in the Hispanic part of town to survive, because she *loved* spicy foods...she would only eat corn chips with salsa *giggle*

Vinnie, as a Norwegian Forest Cat, had 2 layers of fur, sort of like the Norwegian Elkhound does, with the inner layer being thick to portect him from the elements...one time when he was outside, something literally scared the crap right out of him & the only way to clean him up was to hold him under the faucet in the tub...he didn't get too upset about that at all...when he would come in from the outside during the rainy season, he would just stand there & water would run off his back...at first, i thought he was just too lazy to lick himself dry like normal cats...then i realized that the water didn't penetrate to his skin, so he didn't know he was wet...needless to say, we kept towels by the door to wipe him down before he got too far into the house....

Ok I couldn't let this tread die so:

My ex and I had a lot of cats, and on of them was Tigger.  Any time either of us were in the bath he just had to be a part of it.  So he would try to make a lap around the tub, which was easy on three side, but the one end with the valves and spout wasn't so easy.  He would very carefully try to step on the valve then step on the spout in the middle then step on the valve and then on to the other side.  I'm sure you can see where this is going.  One night he stepped on the handle on the valve and put a little to much weight on it, the handle turns and he goes in the tub.  So now I have one wet and very pissed cat swimming in the tub with me.  It wasn't fun for either of us.

And do you think he learned his lesson?  Oh no, the next time in the bath he is right back at it.

Matilda the Wonder Cat was my first four-legged, fuzzy friend. She was also my journal. I told her all sorts of things and knew that she'd keep every last secret. She and I grew up together. Mom picked her up as a kitten around the time she brought me into the world.

When I'd had a bad day and needed to vent... somehow Mattie knew. She'd show up within a few minutes of me getting home and sit patiently as I told her all about it.

When I was sick or hurting, Mattie knew that too. And she'd come visit with me... suffering through hugs and sniffles, though she didn't allow for anyone else to pick her up.

When I was about eleven or twelve I was outside with her when a rather mean looking dog began to approach. He looked like he was itching for a fight as he ambled closer. When he growled, Matilda the Wonder Cat sauntered closer and put herself right in his path. Her fur fluffed up slowly, like someone was inflating her. She answered his growl with one of her own. And just got louder and louder. She started hissing, growling, snarling and finally took a step toward him. I swear she was exactly like a Mama Bear in that moment, fearlessly defending her cub. And that dog knew better than to mess with a Mama Bear. He ran off with a squeal... terrified of a brash cat 1/4th his size.

She lived to be almost nineteen and thinking about her passing brings me to tears without fail. We had to let her go once she started having seizures because the medicine she'd been prescribed turned her into an unhappy lump of clay. She'd sit around, staring at the walls while her fur became matted and oily.

I miss her and value every moment I had with her. And I'd like to think that my newest bundle of furry joy has a drop or two of her spirit, as Gizmo the Silly Siamese possesses the same almost eerie sixth sense about my emotional status. He comes running the moment the tears start falling and doesn't stop cuddling until long after they've dried.
