When is it OK to kill? The OP's inference seems to be, it is not OK to kill even for self preservation - whether that is in defence or for food. After all, we're talking killing here, which applies to any living thing, not murder, which is restricted to killing human beings. So, if we really wanted, we could avoid killing. We could stop eating meat, but since plants are also living beings, we'd have to stop eating them too. We could get away with eating fruit, nuts and eggs - but then, we're killing the potential offspring of plants and animals. What to do? We could turn pacifist to avoid killing human beings. We could sit and turn the other cheek when our children, our spouses, our friends and family are killed for want of our killing an aggressor. We could rope all these victims into our own quest for perfection, when they were looking to us for our protection. Selfishness on a disastrous scale of misunderstanding. We could seek out HIV infection, so that our immune system doesnt kill off all the bacteria and viruses that surround us and invade our bodies every day. No killing, remember? Or, we can accept that All-That-Is is part of this Great Spirit mentioned by the OP, and that in reality nothing can be killed, for nothing has any separate existence. From that, one can start to discern properly, what is good and what is evil, and how one ought to live and die, and kill. E
