I see no difference in living a life based upon Gor, Aesop's Fables, The Bible, or any other numerous books I could think of off the top of my head.

now this is a priceless way to look at it

leathersmith -> RE: what makes Gor special? (2/13/2007 8:50:08 AM)

I don't wish to offend anyone, but all of this lifestyle or whatever you choose to call it is based on a fantasy. Goreans are no beter or worse in this regard than others. Those who think otherwise should present their "CONTRACT of SLAVERY" or other such thing to the cop who responds if your "property" wants out and you object. You will soon learn the difference.
ALLS ahm sayin is don't beat up on the Goreans until you know them. I think that is by definition bigotry

SimplyMichael -> RE: what makes Gor special? (2/13/2007 8:58:24 AM)

I do know them thank you very much and I DO condemn them as a group.  I have know a few in real life and they were and are pathetic losers.  Iron Bear, who used to post here is one of the few Goreans I have any respect for and I am pretty sure when he left he had lost some respect for Gor as well.

Wyrd -> RE: what makes Gor special? (2/13/2007 9:04:35 AM)

Hmm, being a Gorean, I might be sticking my neck out a bit here, but will do so anyway, gotta use an aggressive attitude somehow.

Gor is not any more special than anything else is, the core tenant I got from Gor and why I follow a Gorean path is that we should each be true to who we are, be that Master or slave, or something else all together.

Most Goreans are caught up in the fantasy and so distant from the real world it is rather pathetic, but then I watch online doms, masters, subs and slaves, who are not Gorean doing the same thing.

The philospohies are the strong suit to Gor for me, as the auther is a professor of philosphy that makes sense, shame you have to read through 26 books of rubbish to get there though.  He is definatly not a great writter, but he does cover topics such as honor and respect that the lifestyle does really need, I watch my own local cumminty and watch supposedly honorable Doms and subs stabbing each other in the back and playing gossip and political deals, pathetic really.

ModeratorEleven -> RE: what makes Gor special? (2/13/2007 9:14:45 AM)

Folks, Gor bashing is not more acceptable here than any other type of bashing.  Please keep that in mind when adding your comments.

Lorelei115 -> RE: what makes Gor special? (2/13/2007 9:18:59 AM)

I'm not sure about Gor being more "philosophical" or any of that, but I do know it is different because supposedly, Goreans use their philosophy as a guideline for their entire lives, rather than just the interaction with their S.O.'s. The Gorean philosophy (or so I am told) is much more than the relationship between Master and slave, its a way of living that covers their entire life. It has strict protocols because the protocols really ARE written down somewhere, rather than BDSM which does indeed have the "take what you like and chuck the rest" philosophy that I personally prefer.

I'll not pass judgement on the people that practice Gor except on a case-by-case basis. I do know there have been several posters that have ventured out of the Gor forums that I have nothing but respect for, and there are several that I have blocked. But then again its the same with the BDSM'ers.

gooddogbenji -> RE: what makes Gor special? (2/13/2007 9:31:14 AM)

My view of Gor is perhaps a bit different.

In any aspect of our lives, there are various degrees of conforming.  At one end are the Catholics, the Audobon Society, the presiding member of the PTA, white picket fence, 2.3 children and a minivan crowd.  They live on structure, they need to feel like they are doing what others see as right.  These are the same types of people who will go to Gor.

At the other end is the "I'll do it my way, thank you very much," crowd, who flee from organised religion, know parenting better than the PTA, do their own taxes, and make new rules in Monopoly.  These people will also run from Gor.  They want to do it their way, not according to someone else's fantasy.

Even in BDSM, there are structured fantasies, "the cop scene" and such.  Some people embrace these communal fantasies, some do not.

Whatever blows your whistle, sailor!

Yours,

benji

Greetings Mixie and other Folks,

I actually answered your poll. And it appears that not all but more than not agreed to overlaps as you put it. M/s has its own way of doing things; I’m sure a great many ways of doing things. None, better than the next. Goreans don’t come under the heading of BDSM in our eyes because we want it to be about more than sexual kinks. The crazy part about that is I would imagine that some BDSM lifestyles feel the same way. They are not however ridiculed for believe they are a factious character in a book. The fact is living Goreans don’t think they have to portray the books to the word and letter either. As Wyrd said, it’s about the beliefs and codes of men. And the women that choose to associate with us feel that way as well.

Goreans do however believe in sexual kinks, hell some play and just don’t discuss it. Some are most likely as skilled at shibari and such as a great many of you. Find pleasure in subjecting a slut to pain. That doesn’t give them the life values that make them who they are; it is the activities they enjoy. Just like you guys. I for one am guilty as anyone of drawing comparisons between BDSM and Gor. Just reading this thread it occurred to me, that is fucking ridiculous. It isn’t about what’s better. There are difference sure, but that doesn’t make either wrong.

I am suited to be Gorean. I don’t ride a Tarn, I don’t sell women in the market place, I haven’t killed anyone for displeasing me, and most importantly I have never left Earth. That I know of, I am a redneck from the Midwest, it is possible I have been abducted and don’t know it. You don’t think they tied me up do you? Oh, damn!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Runs to gargle and shower quick) The Gorean role-player talks about doing these things. The Rape fetish participant talks about doing these things. Some folks fantasize that their babies. The point here is that we all have something that floats are boat. The fellow Michael has demonstrated a near contempt towards a man like me and has no idea who I am. That’s as foolish as me disliking him because he stands in a silk robe in front of a cross.

My little friend Lynn said it very well, as she most often does. Nothing is better unless it feels better for you. Like I hear around munches, if it feels good do it, if it hurts do it more. Lynn you pretty little slut, have that new master swat your ass good once for me if he would.

Live well, Bull

P.S. I know these books may be terribly written but I am a terrible reader and they actually got me to read….Dick, Jane and that rotten dog spot seemed a worse read and we all did that.

caitlyn -> RE: what makes Gor special? (2/13/2007 9:42:25 AM)

Some people will see the good in anything.
Some will see the bad.
Some will never accept what they themselves do not agree with.
Some feel the need to trash it.
Some make generalizations, based on rediculously small sample groups.
Some can't see past them.

That occurred to me while reading through this thread.  The most profound examples here of people caught up in fantasy (a daily occurence on collarme) that I remember were not posted  by people who self-defined as Gorean.

xBullx -> RE: what makes Gor special? (2/13/2007 9:48:02 AM)

Greetings Lorelei,

I was reading your post and seen a chance for hope. Is there actually a way to block unwanted posts in these threads from my own view. My god that would be excellent. I have a few Goreans that I would like to block. (grinz)

Live well,

Bull

nephandi -> RE: what makes Gor special? (2/13/2007 9:48:18 AM)

Thank you for telling me his name.

And some make assumptions about others based upon a few words typed on a message board, such as

others generalize
others are bashing
others only see badness
that a lack of agreement with a choice means that there is a lack of acceptance about a choice...

yes all sorts of judgments get tossed around...

Lorelei115 -> RE: what makes Gor special? (2/13/2007 9:52:42 AM)

Bull-

Yes, there are two buttons on the bottom of each post on the left hand side, one says "profile" the other says "block".[:)] Hope that helps.

Nephandi-

*Grin* yes, I am a huge bird person as well, I've always loved them. I've always seen them called either budgies or parakeets, undulats is a new one on me, but I'm guessing it stems from their scientific name?

caitlyn -> RE: what makes Gor special? (2/13/2007 9:53:17 AM)

I said some ... which by default means it can't be a generalization.

xBullx -> RE: what makes Gor special? (2/13/2007 9:56:40 AM)

Hello Caitlyn, you pretty little thing,

Repeat after me..."I think Bull is awesome", now keep repeating that until you actually believe it and want to fall naked at my feet. (smirks) I have a feeling this is going to be a chapter of a Rip VanWinkle novel. Wake me when it's time.

Serve me well,

Bull

P.S. I'm just playin people.....or am I [;)]

xBullx -> RE: what makes Gor special? (2/13/2007 9:59:09 AM)
