I want to ask because that last bit (bold text) makes them come off sounding "snobbish" to people who are not "Gorean" -- is this honestly how they view the rest of the human race?  That they are more intelligent than the rest of us?  It sounds like it to me and it's a bit frightening of a statement.

Thank you.

Greetings, this girl apologises for the poor way she worded that statement.

This girl cannot figure out how you managed to sum up that question from her statement, but obviously, the answer is no. It is just a different way of seeing things, and not everyone would think like this girl.
All this girl was saying, was that, some Goreans see life as it should be hundreds of years ago. But with it being in the 2k7 which equal rights, people now think that the lifestyle is based upon fiction and not pasted fact.

I will say upfront, I have little to no idea bout the Gorean lifestyle, as I am not a part of it, nor do I see myself part of it. But, I am finding this an interesting thread...

However, I had a question about this statement:

"Gor isnt special, actually it can be quite a harsh way of life, but as we are all humans and in today's society we are all equal, but Goreans minds are not. "

I want to ask because that last bit (bold text) makes them come off sounding "snobbish" to people who are not "Gorean" -- is this honestly how they view the rest of the human race?  That they are more intelligent than the rest of us?  It sounds like it to me and it's a bit frightening of a statement.

Thank you.

It is an antiquated notion that was fashionable in the 11th century. Gor is the dark ages preserved. Which many people revel in the fantasy. Just watch harlequin and zebra romance stocks.

Thank you.... I'm all for fantasy, I have an incredible imagination, and am a history buff... and many naughty and fantasy-driven day dreams myself.

However, I guess I was just wondering if they advocate such notions that their minds are more advanced than the rest of us? To me, as a history buff, the idea that any large group of people consider themselves better than the rest of us, and they have to share this world we live in (the larger, greater "world" as well as our small community like CM) is off-putting to me.

Greetings sensualmagirL,

We are all humans and no one has actually said 'I am better than you, because...'

Please remember what vanilla people would say to you, some would sneer because they would think you're odd because you may believe in something they dont.

We as humans are all different, and we all hold different opinions.

Most people would assume that "should be" implies that you mean "should be" and that anything else "should NOT be".

Secondly, since todays date is 2007 and not 207 it is we who are living in reality and anyone who thinks it is still the dark ages is living in fantasy not fact.

It is a personal choice. Gor is not exclusive to the USA it is worldwide. Just as some people have the courage to embrace their eclectic natures, goths, BDSM'ers, Bush fans, the Gorean too, embraces their ideals.

Think about it. Does it take stronger people to conform or be themselves? Gorean ideology is taking our primal instincts, Masculine strong and rugged, feminine soft and vulnerable, and making possible for a fetish group to run with it.

When your SO comes home do you want him to fluff your laundry, cook you dinner, sweep, mop, and then coax you to bed or sling you over his shoulder and dash to the bedroom, couch, floor, hall door, rip the clothes from you’re quivering flesh and have his wicked way with you?

Excellent post.  There is nothing inherently "special" about being Gorean or being part of a BDSM community, or whatever.  It is just what people are.  The posts on the Gorean board (and I do count myself as a woman who tries to live within the Gorean ethos) are perhaps more philosophical in nature because it tends to be a way of thinking more than a lifestyle, but the two do intersect at many points.
I don't know what the big deal is, to be honest.  Live and let live and stop trying to stir something up; that is immature and silly

Tal;
As a Canadian - Gor represents a love for relational dynamics that can be visual - dances, service, clothing, formal and informal settings, and scenes. It can encompass many other aspects - from music, to food, to high protocol, to older eras of historical value.
Each individual envisions what that see while reading the books; but in one's mind in can be re-enacted and made to be  apart of everyday existance - it is usually the matter of to what degree that we run into issues of discussion and debate.
Be well

I'm very eclectic, I hear you... and I understand what you mean. I was just over reading into one particular statement. Thank you for your input.

Oh, and for the record, I vote for the second of that option in your scenario!

Greetings Aquaticsub,

This girl would like to answer your question. In the books free women are just uncollared slaves, this girl metioned in her last post that in the books the philosephy was that Men are leaders, no matter what and in the books a free woman was just a women who didnt belong. to a man.

Its the philosephy that was around many hundred years ago.

That actually doesn't answer the question I asked, which is: Why, if women can be in power and be respected, do Gorean always seem to seek slaves? I have heard many times that in the books women can have places of power yet a Gorean man never seeks such a woman. That says they are viewed as unnatural and undesirable. That doesn't seem to be a good model for society. Men have been in charge of our planet for years. Look where it got us.

from what i can gather from her reply, is that if this free woman in who is in power, were have a man smitten with her and she accepts his advances, by gor default- this would transcend her into the life of slavery

slave kara,

Interesting that you use the normative here, how things "should" have been.  Because that was not always the case.  I have not read the books (though I actually wish to).  Women who were married to warriors in the middle ages were the most amazingly strong women.  Their man went off to war, so she ran the estate, cared for tennants, etc.

Now I am going to address the past fact statement.  And all I have to say is not just past.  I can think of some much harsher cultures than are dreamt of by Norman (from what I know about it - which is very little, honestly).  Female circumcision comes to mind.  And it's not surgically clean, and it is not pretty.  This happens today.  Women in those societies are not supposed to feel pleasure during sex, period.  They are the property of a man.  As an anthropolgy major (taught cultural relativism), these cultures still make me cringe.  Others, women have to leave the village on their menses and go into the wild so that they don't contaminate the village.  I could go on and on.  But there are societies in the past that were very matriarchal and powerful complex cultures.

I neither agree, nor disagree with you.  But there is certainly variety in human culture, past and present.

Respectfully,

presence

I can see that it is extremely difficult for many of you "little people" to begin to understand that there are those of us who choose to live our lives to a higher standard than that which is typically pursued or endorsed by the masses.

I too, live my life acording to the teachings (scriptures if you will) of a great man who was a writer of fiction...He wrote over forty books and sold more than a half a billion copies world wide.  Through his books his readers embarked on journeys  to strange lands, filled with wonderous beasts and creatures...and through these masterful writings a frame work began to evolve that led some , like myself, to dedicate our lives to the ethics and morals presented in this man's works.

I am a "Seussian."  And have dedicated my life to understand my world, my life  and my realtionships from what has been bestowed upon me from my teacher..Theodore Seuss Giesel.

We Seussians have found that all questions presented in life can be answered in the books of Dr. Suess.....If you have a question on the proper diet(cause you are a fat sub) pick up "Green Eggs and Ham" or if perplexed by the possibility of war, then nothing reads as true or as  somber as the apocalyptic tale found on the pages of "The Butter Battle Book."

We Suessian also believe that all spoken word should be in the form of "rhyme." We believe that men should take their place as the "rightful" head of the household...For it is our true destiny.( Not because we are superior it's just because women have a hard time communicating in "Suessland"  simply because there are not enough words that rhyme with "tampons or Britney")

So laugh if you must,  but we are out there and our numbers are growing

I wish you well, and leave you with this thought:

"Valentine's day is upon us

what will you give your girl?

A flogging?

Some Anal?

A necklace made of pearl?

Whether it be some anal

or ramming her twat..

I like this I say...

I like it a lot!!!"

But then she wouldn't become a completely different person then the woman he had been smitten by?

technically, yes i suppose. it doesnt make sense to me, i will admit... but i guess she could still have power while being a slave ... many slaves are in controld of a lot of things, to make the Masters life easier. maybe only her title would change?
