Was that on the name tag?

That question definately needs an interrobang terminating it.

freyjasdottir -> RE: Asatruar? (3/1/2007 6:01:54 AM)

I found that title hysterical, so glad I'm not still related to the SIL who told someone I was Wiccan once, sorry to those who are but I'm not and a bit stubborn on it.  If she hadn't been in her 60's I'd had knocked her head sideways.

GeekyGirl -> RE: Asatruar? (3/1/2007 6:12:25 AM)

I don't identify as asatruar but I do consider myself an ecclectic pagan and I'm enjoying the discussion of Norse mythology.
Thanks for sharing [:D]

I think my <sig> says it all.

I think your sig line started this post. I posted this on the Fuck You very much thread but i'll repost it here.

For those of you unfamiliar with Astaru ( the old Norse religion which surprisingly troll, Wulfie and i share some belief in) a quick lesson ;

Vegtam the Wanderer is the identity assumed by the All Father Odin to search for the Well of all wisdom to ask for a drink of it's waters in order to save Asgard.

The story goes that Odin arrived and at the Well and asks Mimir, the well keeper for a drink of the sacred waters. Mimir asks Odin disguised as Vegtam for his right eye. It is a huge price for an immortal because he is a warrior and needs his eye for battle as the Norse gods may be slain. In fact it is almost guaranteeing his death. Odin pays this price to save his realm and earns the knowledge to protect Asgard. Thus becoming known as the One Eyed God.

It is a story of sacrifice and death for the wisdom to change playing out that which we must go through in the course of life. Odin gave up part of that which made him a strong warrior in order to gain the wisdom to save his people, his home.

Thank you for sharing the story. I always enjoy learning more about peoples beliefs.

I believe that Leaves of Yggdrasil is out of print (at least in the U.S.)  However there is a revised edition, Northern Mysteries and Magick.  I got my copy a few years back though, so if my info is inaccurate, please correct me.

freyjasdottir -> RE: Asatruar? (3/1/2007 10:52:15 PM)

You are completely correct, my copy is currently sitting on my bedroom floor

t3nth0usandv0lts -> RE: Asatruar? (5/1/2007 11:50:33 PM)

My mentor, Ronin, is Asatruar. The second question he ever asked me was whether I knew what it was. Most of the men in my SCAdian household play Viking personae, and I know personally at least three who follow the Old Gods. And my best friend's nickname is Loki. :]

hisannabelle -> RE: Asatruar? (5/1/2007 11:55:46 PM)

greetings lady ellen,

i am a longtime pagan who has come to realize recently that "druid" is the word for what i feel and for the beliefs i hold close to my heart. i don't necessarily follow the norse path, but i have a great deal of respect for the asatruar i have met and done ritual with.

annabelle.
