If I'm going to wallow in heartache I have to go with anything Sinatra (post Ava) in particular

One For My Baby (and one more for the road)
It Happened in Monterrey
Wee Small Hours

then there's

Aint No Sunshine -Neville Brothers
My Girl - Temptaions.
Wish It Would Rain - Temptations
Two Out of Three Aint Bad = Meatloaf
Actually almost anything by Meatloaf
Willow Weep For Me - Billie Holliday
Stormy Monday 0 Billie Holliday

Just hit up anything in the Blues category and you'll find something that makes sense.

Four for the road!....Sit back...nurse a bottle of whiskey as her pictures and letters melt in the fire......

Don't drink the water-------Dave Mathews band

One Step Up---------------Bruce Springsteen

I Don't Care Anymore------Phil Collins

Creep---------------------- Radiohead

Forever Blue----------------Chris Isaak....Actually the majority of the album is rather depressing

FOREVER BLUE---CHRIS ISAAK

Nobody ever warns you, or tells you what to do.
She walks away, your left to stay.
Alone forever blue.

The stars have all stopped shining, the sun just won't break through.
Each days the same, more clouds more rain.
Your left forever blue.

Forever blue 'cause you love her, but she dosen't love you.
You did your best, life did the rest.
Your left forever blue.

No reason left for living, still there's alot to do.
New tears to cry, old songs
to sing.
And feel forever blue.
And be forever....Blue

I Can't Make You Love Me - Bonnie Raitt

Turn down the lights, turn down the bed
Turn down these voices inside my head
Lay down with me, tell me no lies
Just hold me close, dont patronize - dont patronize me

Chorus: cause I cant make you love me if you dont
You cant make your heart feel something it wont
Here in the dark, in these lonely hours
I will lay down my heart and Ill feel the power
But you wont, no you wont
cause I cant make you love me, if you dont

Ill close my eyes, then I wont see
The love you dont feel when youre holding me
Morning will come and Ill do whats right
Just give me till then to give up this fight
And I will give up this fight
Chorus: cause I cant make you love me if you dont
You cant make your heart feel something it wont
Here in the dark, in these lonely hours
I will lay down my heart and Ill feel the power
But you wont, no you wont
cause I cant make you love me, if you dont

BR,

Auugh!! Now that brought back a memory or two. I vaguely remember a 2 week time period of listening to nothing but that song and putting back together a shattered heart. Amazing that I still love that damn song. Bittersweet as it may be. Can't believe I forgot to put it on my list.

Theme tune to 'vicar of dibley' the full version, its a hymn dont laugh!

Starts : 'The lord is my sheperd i shall not want, he maketh me to lie down in green pastures...'

Ends: 'surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life...and i will dwell in the house of the lord forever...forever...' *going to cry!*

I heard this one today while at the hair salon.  I had forgotten about it as I haven't heard it in a long time:

Love Breaks Your Heart - Vanessa Williams
------------------
They say its a river, that circles the earth
A beam of light shining to the edge of the universe
It conquers all, it changes everything

They say its a blessing, they say its a gift
They say its a miracle
And I believe that it is
It conquers all, but its a mystery

Love breaks your heart
Love takes no less than everything
Love makes it hard
And it fades away so easily

In this world weve created
In this place that we live
In the blink of an eye the darkness slips in
Love lights the world
Unites the lovers for eternity

Love breaks the chains
Love aches for everyone of us
Love takes the tears and the pain, and it turns it in-
To the beauty that remains

Look at this place
It was paradise, but now its dying
Ill pray for love
Ill take my chances that its not too late

Love breaks your heart
Love takes no less than everything
Love makes it hard
And fades away so easily

Oh oh oh

Love breaks the chains
Love aches for everyone of us
Love takes the tears and the pain, and it turns it in-
To the beauty that remains

wow! can't beleive there isn't any country songs listed in a post called "heartbreak music" I always thought there was a lot of cry in your beer country songs..;)
I knew a guy who listened to "The Dance" over and over after his wife left him..
I love that Bonnie Rait song... had meaning for me at one point in my life.
songs can bring you  instantly back to a feeling.. a time.. good or bad.

I cannot believe my among the top 5 favorite:
1) Can't get you out of my mind by Lenny Kravitz
2) Ne Me Quites Pas by Nina Simone
3) Round Midnight by Ella Fitzgerald
quote:

It begins to tell,
'round midnight, midnight.
I do pretty well, till after sundown,
Suppertime i'm feelin' sad;
But it really gets bad,
'round midnight.
Memories always start 'round midnight
Haven't got the heart to stand those memories,
When my heart is still with you,
And ol' midnight knows it, too.
When a quarrel we had needs mending,
Does it mean that our love is ending.
Darlin' i need you, lately i find
You're out of my heart,
And i'm out of my mind.
Let our hearts take wings'
'round midnight, midnight
Let the angels sing,
For your returning.
Till our love is safe and sound.
And old midnight comes around.
Feelin' sad,
Really gets bad
Round.....round.......round....mid.....night....

4) Angel by Aerosmith
5) All out of Love by Air Supply        M

2 Other corny songs I like are :Sad Songs by Elton John, and Lucille by Kenny Rogers.
