atendersoul -> "True" term on line.... (2/17/2007 5:58:51 AM)

In my many years of experience, I have never met another of a set status of Master, Mistress, Dom or submissive levels that has termed themselves as a "true" status......
why is it necessary here online to do such a thing?

ArgoGeorgia -> RE: "True" term on line.... (2/17/2007 6:04:47 AM)

I wonder if by 'True' Master, Dom, whatever they mean that they are not online only?  I know many here draw a distinction (with validity as far as I'm concerned) about those who are online only "Masters" and those that practice it in real time.  At least, that's what I always thought it meant.

BRNaughtyAngel -> RE: "True" term on line.... (2/17/2007 6:25:08 AM)

Even though we poke fun at the use of "real" and "true", in general, I think people use those terms to mean someone who is serious about being a (fill in the blank) and not just playing "dom" on their Mom's computer or "sub" when their hubby isn't home.  That sort of thing.

I've seen profiles of "dominants" on here that openly stated they weren't really dominant or a sadist, they just liked having lots of sex.  Which tells me they probably can't get any in the "vanilla world" and they think women in this lifestyle are easy, so they'll slap a "dominant male" label on their ass and figure that will reel 'em in.  [sm=rolleyes.gif]

happypervert -> RE: "True" term on line.... (2/17/2007 6:26:46 AM)

The people who use the word "true" like that are showing their ignorance in a manner similar to the straight men claiming to be Old Guard.

The correct word to use is "twue", and it must be spoken in your best imitation of Elmer Fudd; if you don't do that, you show you are just a wannabe and you definitely aren't twue.

krikket -> RE: "True" term on line.... (2/17/2007 6:48:18 AM)

i've been listening to this (and other) debates for over 10 years now, on and off line, each in their own time and place made me giggle.  This time is no exception.  I admit that the more someone proclaims themselves true, or real or even twue the more likely i am to tune them out.  However, there's someone for everyone (I hope) and i wish them well.  They're just not my cuppa tea.  I'm much more impressed with a man who does WIITWD with quiet control and that "look" in his eye.... Yummmmmylicious

Cheers

Because so many online submissives are stupid enough to fall for it, thats why.

KatyLied -> RE: "True" term on line.... (2/17/2007 8:04:43 AM)

I love the term *real*.  It gives me an impression of Domly Velveteen Rabbits.

TNDom46 -> RE: "True" term on line.... (2/17/2007 8:22:57 AM)

What I see often times is that some, not all,  people who use the term "true" do so to discredit anothers use of a label.  What I mean by that is that in some people's minds you cannot be a "true" submissive, if you are not submissive at all times.  You cannot be a "true" Dom, if you don't seek to control every moment of a submissives being.

It bothers me for a group of people, who tend to be judged by society, whether it be based on race, sexual preference or whatever, to be judgemental of each other within that group.  And I think that often times that is how the term true is used.  It is used to put down another as to not be on our own level.

It happens in "vanilla world" all the time.  Look how groups who tout themselves as "True Christians" do so to set themselves above and more holy than just plain old Christians.

Hmm

blonderaven -> RE: "True" term on line.... (2/17/2007 9:56:13 AM)

when i see the term online i regard it as meaning that the D/s lifestyle is practised in real life and  'in the flesh' as opposed to solely online

SirDominic -> RE: "True" term on line.... (2/17/2007 10:09:43 AM)

Why is it that people feel it is necessary to state they are a "True" fill-in-the-blank online? Overcompensation. The more someone feels the need to do this, the less capable they really are.

The one that confuses me more is the "Real" ones. Like "I am only looking for a real dom/sub relationship". Well, okay, who's looking for a fake one? Never mind, I don't think I want to know!

Namaste, Sir Dominic

LadyHugs -> RE: "True" term on line.... (2/17/2007 3:00:37 PM)

Dear atendersoul, Ladies and Gentlemen;

Absent of face to face, human interaction as to witness first hand what you would have in your list of 'standards' and or measures and rules of what the truth is; texts and or advertisement is the only 'selling' point people can offer.

We see commercials saying their product is 'more real' or 'more true.'  And, of course it has lost its meaning; just as another poster commented on the 'true Christians and others fake' references.  It was no less a great impact on history during the Counter Reformation and the Inquisition periods in Catholic history; to which those seeking reform were often killed for a change of faith and leaving the Catholic church's power and philosophy of what 'true religion' was.
The Nuremberg Ovens from Inquisition periods were used to toss women, children and infants alive, as to be burned alive--all for the sake of imposing what 'true' was on those who disagreed.  The Catholic church has never apologized for the Medieval period of crimes against humanity, to which women died at a much higher percentage then men.  This same mentality is in the BDSM and M/s, D/s, S&M culture of which some say what is true in their eyes or real in their eyes, is not true and or real according to their standards.  Although not tossed into the Nuremburg Ovens per se; all of us are subjected to false accusations based on personal prejudices, personal bias and or personal vindictive behaviors.  Some sadly use their position as seniors, elders and or leaders as to be the very thing they preach against.

All I can do as an individual, is be true to myself and those near and dear to me.  Individuals must seek what is the truth independent of others and what is real or not; based on an individual's rule of measure and or standards--not mine.  Yet, most will find that there are more standards and measures that are most real and most true in a very common and broad community at large.

Just some thoughts.

Respectfully submitted for consideration,
Lady Hugs

Edited because true subs always correct they're typos.

MadRabbit -> RE: "True" term on line.... (2/17/2007 4:46:55 PM)

While I agree with nearly everything said, one other example of how I see it used commonly is just solely out of lack of perspective.

Every Dom has their ideal vision of their "true submissive" and every submissive has their ideal vision of their "true Dom". They then very narrow mindfully think everyone else in the BDSM community shares that vision and standard.

"Well a true submissive wont do *insert bullshit here*"

pickingrinnin -> RE: "True" term on line.... (2/17/2007 5:03:03 PM)

I tend to walk away when I hear people use these phrases and words:

"true"
"real"
"Old Guard" (one of the most myth-laden terms in the lifestyle)
"traditional European training house" (no such thing)
"no limits" (decapitation is okay?)

- Jesse

gooddogbenji -> RE: "True" term on line.... (2/17/2007 5:29:10 PM)

Ahh, but you don't know of the real European houses.

In Paris, there's one in the Rue Morgue.  14th century villa, complete with oubliette, where slaves are trained to be the perfect slave to any Master or Mistress.  Of course, only a Master or Mistress trained at one of these houses is worthy of one of those slaves, but still.

All in all, it's a tighter community than the stars of Deliverance.

Yours,

benji
