When I first moved up to Oregon and took a whitewater trip, coupled together with a harrowing high-water swim in a narrow canyon, with a ten-dollar life jacket on.... for the next two years other than just getting laid every so often, I forgot about girls and sex.

What brought back girls and my sex drive?  I conquered every major class 5 and class 5+ creek and river in the Pacific Northwest and then women/sex became interesting again.  ; }

Thanks for posting that link about fem athletes, and hormonal shifts Vendaval.
I knew I'd read something to that effect, but had no idea where.   M

... their sex drive?

Does anyone know about factors that come into play, that might make desire, just vanish, for months on end?

Is it possible that too much exercise (like running/swimming), can cause this? How about a diet very low in sugar?

Thanks for any help ...

LOL for sure...mine goes MIA on a regular basis and has for a couple years (yes, B, that is indeed true).  Often stress and preoccupation with other things in life are the culprit.  With everything that's going on in my life with school right now, horniness is something that's fairly rare.  I can usually find it if I go digging, but it's something that at best is at the back of my mind.

I don't think anyone else addressed a low sugar diet....on a biological level, if you cut carbohydrates out of your diet, from simple sugars to complex carbs, your body will be tired for two primary reasons:  it doesn't have access to "quick energy" that's provided by sugars and it's spending it's energy on breaking down body fat to use for basic energy (which is why although you'll lose weight on Atkins, you'll be tired most of the time.)   And of course, tired body = factor contributing to lower sex drive.

(So in theory, the sugar in chocolate could counter that, eh?)

I remember flipping through a "Better Sex Diet" book (can't remember the specific name of it) at a bookstore about a year ago.  Nothing earth shattering about the information in there - what it recommended was a basically healthy diet with lean meats, complex carbs (whole grains), plenty of fruit and veg.  (www.mypyramid.gov gives you a good overview).  If you're body is getting everything it needs and not loaded up with a bunch of stuff it doesn't, it'll be more likely to function normally.  Like I said - nothing earth shattering about that.
