... their sex drive?

Does anyone know about factors that come into play, that might make desire, just vanish, for months on end?

Is it possible that too much exercise (like running/swimming), can cause this? How about a diet very low in sugar?

Thanks for any help ...

Stress.

BlkTallFullfig -> RE: Has Anyone Ever Misplaced ... (2/17/2007 6:51:43 AM)

I lost mine for several months before and having my lil one (related to the man/unhappy relationship, with new responsibilities), but take heart, it did come back with a vengeance once some of the worries were gone. [;)]
I also am low on desire when too many other things are preoccupying me=stress.   M

LadyMorgynn -> RE: Has Anyone Ever Misplaced ... (2/17/2007 6:51:48 AM)

Happened to me after a loved one died. Just vanished, zippo. It's been 6 years, and I'm just now starting to recover my libido.

I don't know about the sugar, but maybe it's lack of chocolate? ;)

Seriously, you might want to consult your doctor. It could be thyroid, or any kind of hormone imbalance, including testosterone, which women have also.

swtnsparkling -> RE: Has Anyone Ever Misplaced ... (2/17/2007 6:55:34 AM)

Only time for me it was caused by a side effect of med's.
And yes as Alieen said  stress.

gypsygrl -> RE: Has Anyone Ever Misplaced ... (2/17/2007 7:22:28 AM)

Mine ran off on me back in May.  Just said, to hell with this shit, packed its bags and took off.  I've been trying to coax it back, but its been slow going and so far. It comes for short visits, but doesn't want to stay too long.

I'm not entirely sure why it left, but I think it was a combination of stress and the ending of a long, rocky, emotionally trying relationship.

As for getting it back for good, I don't know.  I think it will return when it feels the environment is more hospitable.  Right now, I'm not really in a position to support it anyway. :)

I can't agree with aging woman=decreased sex drive thing; at least not a woman in her 20s, 30s...  40s I'll have to get back to you on. [;)]  M

Aileen68 -> RE: Has Anyone Ever Misplaced ... (2/17/2007 7:39:22 AM)

Yeah..have to agree with you here.  As I've gotten older my sex drive has kicked into high gear.
The only time I've experienced a major lack of sex drive has been after the death of two very important people in my life.  The first episode resulted in no desire for sex for about five months.  The second was no sex for about nine months.  Those were incredibly tough times for me not because of the lack of sex, but because of the stress I was under.

stress, worry, depression, major life changes that you have no control over... lots of things

mine washed away with hurricane katrina  and still waiting for it to float back!

That was such a major life/altering disaster; I can't imagine one would get over it without a lot of care and help.    M

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: Has Anyone Ever Misplaced ... (2/17/2007 10:06:48 AM)

too much work, stress and not enough fun

ownedgirlie -> RE: Has Anyone Ever Misplaced ... (2/17/2007 10:10:18 AM)

Could be a shift in hormone balance (or imbalance) as well.

ShiftedJewel -> RE: Has Anyone Ever Misplaced ... (2/17/2007 10:11:19 AM)

Caitlyn, it's possible that it's a hormonal thing. In someone your age I would consider asking a doctor about it.

Depression will mess with your sex drive but then again anti-depressants are really good at whipping it out completely and so is stress. Or it could be as simple as you just plain don't enjoy it right now and worrying over it will just cause you to be more stressed about it and the stress will cause your sex drive to drop dramatically... which will cause you stress. Vicious circle, huh?

My advice? Talk to a doctor about it, if he says there is nothing physically wrong then don't stress over it, if it comes back, great, if it doesn't, that's ok too. There are a lot of people that don't need sex in their lives to be happy...

Depression will make your sex drive disappear; even low-level depression.

use St Johns Wort

See the thread Casual Banter>off topic discussion>Herbal Magic.

SDFemDom4cuck -> RE: Has Anyone Ever Misplaced ... (2/17/2007 10:56:12 AM)

caitlyn

There could be a variety of things as previously stated; meds, stress, hormones. Best advice given is talk to your Dr. Worrying about it won't help the issue either. Easier said than done but talking it with your physician will help.

Honey...let me tell you it ONLY get's better with age for a woman. You're going to love being 40! I definitely do!!

popeye1250 -> RE: Has Anyone Ever Misplaced ... (2/17/2007 11:18:16 AM)

Yes,  depression, major life changes, and stress.
Also aging I've noticed.
Mine ebbs and flows with age. I've always been highly sexed but in the last few years it comes and goes. I won't be horny for a while then boom!
When I was in my teens 20's, 30's, 40's I was an absolute monster.
Now I'd probably still be considered "highly sexed" compared to "normal" people but down a few pegs from wanting to have sex 4 or 5 times a day.
St John's wort doesn't work.
A doctor told me that you would have to take so much of it that it would make you sick before you had any positive results from it.
Caitlyn, come on up to Myrtle Beach and maybe we can find it.[:D]

Depends on the person and on the brand.  I recovered from a suicidally depressed state on St. John's Wort.  Saying it doesn't work is a universal statement and simply not true.

As for depression and stress - yes they could be factors. Again that is not the case for everyone.  I agree with Jewel that Caitlyn should talk to her doctor if this is an ongoing change.  It could be anything that has been listed here.  It could also be a medical issue that has not been diagnosed.  Any change in a body's response that lasts for a prolonged period of time should be checked out.

Those and more.  Psychological changes within your body.  Illness.  Mental issues.
Generally exercise helps a libido it doesn't vanquish it.
Also, if you exercise the more wet dreams you have.  There was a huge study done on that year's ago.  Seems to be true.
If you are concerned see a doctor.
