I dunno. I am not sure I would qualify Guns N' Roses as "heavy metal" per se. The most profoundly metal music I can think of is The Jimi Hendrix Experience. My tastes for most of my life have been to bands like the Dead Kennedys, Vandals, Sex Pistols, Descendants, Smut Peddlars, etc. Then there was my Ska phase, Specials, Selector, English Beat, Madness, etc. sinergy

"Stairway to Heaven" set the model for the power ballads that came after. Listen to the guitar solo/instrumental in Stairway and tell me what other genre that could realistically be described as. Or do a quick search here for the link in the "Viking Cats" thread.

In the cookie cutter crap era of Metal, that was the most important part of the marketing scheme. Maybe the question we should be asking is, "where is the line between Heavy Metal and Hard Rock?"

Metallica are without doubt, on the basis of all round performance in every possible category one could think of - the best! (And I'm a metal head). Met Robert Plant (Led Zep) several times though - he lives about 3 miles from here, and drinks in a pub I occasionally frequent as well as helping out on the music courses at the local college. A nice guy, but an ego that more than matches his achievements LOL! E

AC/DC. First ever record I bought "Touch Too Much", and it still sounds just as good as the first time I played it. Nirvana were class.
