Hiya WorldofSilence,

You can judge me by my nic, it's ok, it actually is my nic and it is rather fitting so I'm told. I guess if you had ever witnessed me fuck in a china shop you'd get it too.( Hair flying, dishes smashing, counters crashing, loud snorts and screams heavy panting and moans, my feet pawing wildly at the floor for traction and then, then, then.......) That is what you do in a china shop isn't it?(smirks) That's my favorite activity in any shop. Bring on the herd, I'm feeling the erge to mount something!!!!!!!!!

See sometimes it's all in a name,

Bull

P.S. I've also been told I'm full of myself, I suppose that works on various levels as well.

Edited for:  brief discription, to eliminate confusion, or to get you thinking straight away in the morning.....

First off, I totally agree with LuckyAlbatross's thoughts on your post....  Everything we do in life is a reflection of who we are.

Focus.

i agree and always pick screennames/ids that mean something to me or reflect an aspect of my life - some i prefer more than others but all are chosen with care. i get a kick out of the diversity of names used and while i would not use the name as "judgement" of someone - there is an impression given by all, some good and some not! LOL

GirlWithInk -> RE: Whats in a name? (2/28/2007 6:25:50 AM)

I try to keep my netkink separate from my normal (read: legal, business-ish stuff) life, so when I pick screen names they are always pitched to the place I'm posting and describe the aspects of myself I am displaying in some way. I've got a couple other handles besides GirlWithInk, this is just the one that is easiest for other people to remember in connection with me scenewise and IRL, the one that no one will forget or misspell or misunderstand. ^.^ Yes, when I start exchanging private messages with someone I sign them with something that is not GirlWithInk.

I've always thought that names are important; on occasion I have ordered pets to change their character names, email addresses, online handles, and what-have-you to reflect the Name I call them by, and I would be offended if anyone who knew me personally and well called me by my legal name instead of the name I am used to hearing.

If you've poked your nose into the Gorean side of things often enough, you've likely come across the idea that a slave is named whatever the slave's owner wishes; if you're a history buff or a fantasy fan you know about True Names and usenames, that names were considered to be things of power; in short, if you know something's name you ~KNOW~ that something, and if you can change something's name you can change that something at a base, essential level. I think this is quite true, and because of that, when I see someone with a name like 'hard4U_93384' or 'cumsluttt17' I assume that the name fits the person: generic, tacky, bumblingly obvious or an outright liar, with no imagination and no taste. When I see a name like TrueCalling or hisannabelle or FukinTroll, I assume they chose that name for a reason, and respect them for having the ability to come up with something that represents them as something unique, rather than justanotherclone338 or badspelerwifnotaste24.

Yeah, I'll shut up now. *wry grin* Sorry, names are a subject I could chatter about for hours.

szobras -> RE: Whats in a name? (3/5/2007 2:53:34 PM)

Szobras , intentionally dropping the last letter of the correct spelling to seperate it from other areas of my involvelment on the net.
The correct spelling is : Szobrasz.
Hungarian = ( Sculptor) as I am both, and yes, I do find a deeper meaning in the parralells between the name and WIITWD.

SmokingGun82 -> RE: Whats in a name? (3/5/2007 3:26:51 PM)

My Yahoo screenname is something I use as a bit of a filter device- it's a reference to a Matt Groening comic strip, but it contains the word "hell" and more than one person has told me that they dislike it/are offended by it because it doesn't treat hell as a serious thing. This tells me that they'll probably not be someone I enjoy talking to.

My nick on here was given to me by a friend when I had a misguided adventure as a sex-blogger and didn't want to use my real name. Since I always seemed to be at the "scene of the crime" so to speak, she suggested SmokingGun. The 82 is my birth year... very original, I know.

I tend not to judge people based on names, but there are exceptions.

RWAble -> RE: Whats in a name? (3/5/2007 3:49:39 PM)

I think nicknames..etc are usually how the person feels at the moment they create it. Mood plays a very big part of everything people do from day to day.

LadyPact -> RE: Whats in a name? (3/5/2007 4:00:05 PM)

Just to chime in My two cents.... My nick here was bestowed on Me by those in My circle.  I'm often called Lady Pact or Mistress Pact by them and I consider it an honor.  What better name to call Myself as I am meeting new people?

WhiplashSmile -> RE: Whats in a name? (3/5/2007 4:19:22 PM)

Well.. I go by whiplashsmile!  Mind you it's a billy idol name game thing...  I know I have made some people smile with a sense of being whiplashed...

adaddysgirl -> RE: Whats in a name? (3/5/2007 5:12:05 PM)

Well my name obviously speaks for itself  [&:]

But.....i do tend to judge others' nicks....like 'onyourkneesbitch' or '10inchdick' or 'pussyeater'....or whatever.  i can remember on adult vanilla sites....how many male nicks had the 69 in them.  Booorrrring!  [:'(]

If someone's nick seems sexually motivated, it seems in many cases that is all they are looking for....so i am not particularly interested in that type.

servicewithsmile -> RE: Whats in a name? (3/5/2007 5:50:03 PM)

So what does Amayos mean?
Not my nic, but the profile pic caught my eye here in the forum (looks like one of those demon dudes from a Buffy episode, dontcha think!? Natty attire, spiky hair, pervy tongue....[:D] )  I thought maybe it was a cantrip, but the closest guess I could make was not an exact one; Sorayama / Amayos
The stuff from Sorayama is gorgeous and Amayos seems like a fellow bent around aesthetics of a sort.  Close enough for government work, anyone....anyone?

SilkLaceNPearls -> RE: Whats in a name? (3/5/2007 8:07:17 PM)

Hmmmm. I chose my nickname because it contains 3 of my favorite things: silk, lace and pearls. Along with fine wine, soft music, scented candles, dark chocolate and a good book.

But the three items I deliberately chose for my name reflects my views on how I imagine this world of D/s and BDSM to be. Take pearls. They are a delicate gem that comes from a source of pain. The oyster makes a pearl when something gets inside and irritates it. After time the liquid that the oyster uses to soothe it's pain turns into some of rare beauty. A newly formed pearl is at first a bit dull but shine it up and watch the luster come out in it. So from "tears" come a thing of true beauty.

Tatting lace is a time consuming job that take a lot of patience but the end result is some very beautiful. The relationship between a Master/Dom/Domme and a sub/slave can only truly develop after both have put a lot of time and effort into it. And once again you have a thing of true beauty, the bond of Master/Dom/Domme and sub/slave.

The silkworm works hard to spin a cocoon to wrap itself in. But all the investment that is put into making that cocoon pays off when the final product is as beautiful butterfly. I see the same correlation in a D/s relationship. Both parties have to work hard at it, wrapped their heart and soul, mind, body and spirit into it but when all is said and done, you have truly deep and beautiful relationship.

So from tears/pain comes a thing of beauty, from time and patience comes a thing of beauty and from investing your heart, soul, mind, body and spirit comes comes a thing of beauty. Yeah, I am a romantic. LOL! What else is  new? Besides SilkLacePearlsWineMusicCandlesChocolateNBook is a bit long for a nickname is it not?

I capitalize out of habit, nothing more. I find it hard to type in all lower case when for years I have always tried my upmost to follow proper grammar. And the writer in me won't let me use lower case as hard as I try.

servicewithsmile -> RE: Whats in a name? (3/5/2007 8:34:34 PM)

Didja know, SLP that to get the silk cocoon, that the moths are boiled to kill them before they break out of the wrapping so the cocoon can be unwound unbroken?
[:D]
...just sharin'....

How much weight would a persons user name hold sway in terms of you communicating with them?

Truthfully - not much, however that's not to say that I don't consider their choice of names when corresponding with them.  I almost always ask (if it's not obvious) why they chose the name they did -- for example, Sir's name is related to his hobby, though at the time I didn't know that, and it struck me as a strange name since it is a "real" name, but not *his* name... when I found out the answer, I was that much more impressed.  Other names -- not so much, but it doesn't keep me from talking to them just to get to know the story -- I'm a curious sort like that.

Dnomyar -> RE: Whats in a name? (3/6/2007 5:20:36 AM)

Mine used to be DomRaymond. Most people shortened it to DR. I was'nt very creative in picking a name. I did not really care for the Dom part of it and Raymond was already in use by someone else. So I just reversed it. Some people pick up on it and some dont. A few still ask me what it means. A lot of people judge you by your name first weather they will admit it or not. I laugh at a few of them but I try to get to know the people before I do any judging of them.

SexyCazzy -> RE: Whats in a name? (7/13/2007 1:52:41 AM)

Hi,

I just got a message from someone who were saying

quote:

use lower case letters for your nick as that signafies that your submissive, upper case or Caps says your a Domme

My nickname is SexyCazzy - well... the sexy part is not really important but the Cazzy part is important as it is the half of my nickname for my real name - I use Caz a lot on the Internet but decided to add on the other letters zy at the end of Cazzy for my personal reasons.

Anyway, my question is, is it really important to have your nick/username/screenname in upper case to show that you are a submissive, and Caps to show that you are a Dominator?

From my POV, I feel the screenname is not important, its the person behind the name which is important. A screenname is just a name.

Any thoughts?

adoracat -> RE: Whats in a name? (7/13/2007 2:06:30 AM)

adoracat because that's what the late Sir called me.  i have "lady" in my other screen names/emails, and have been quietly amused at the number of times i've been assumed to be a Domme....

its only cause my mama did her darnedest to raise me ladylike.  :)

kitten who is easily amused

thoughtlessbitch -> RE: Whats in a name? (7/13/2007 4:00:12 AM)

My name is an ironic reference to another member who is blissfully unaware of the damage she did to my One. Or am i being generous in that assumption and she knew exactly what she was doing to Him.

Your brain processes information and forms an opinion whether consciously or subconsciously. Seeing a person’s chosen name has some affect because of the nature of a profile there is just only so much information at your disposal.

That being said, I know for myself my name is Lin and not toservez, and the name chosen was more about a minute of agony coming up with a screen name then some deep meaning or message. I would not want others to put too much emphasis on my screen name so I certainly try not to put too much emphasis on their screen names.

Almost all names I read I am very neutral on and I had zero criteria that would attract me or repel me based on a screen name. Of course certain names in the genre of “lordsirmasterking” or “iwant cunt todestroy” would get a roll of the eyes or laughter and first impression was these people are wankers or arrogant asses and while I was very open to change my mind, the fact was an impression on some level was in my head and it would have to have some impact.

To me it was almost like the difference I found when reading and writing messages in different moods and energy levels. I may have been open minded but factors might not cause me to treat all messages truly equal on a sub conscious level. Not right but life.

Your name seems fine....your last paragraph, I think you're overthinking this.... :))
