I try to keep my netkink separate from my normal (read: legal, business-ish stuff) life, so when I pick screen names they are always pitched to the place I'm posting and describe the aspects of myself I am displaying in some way. I've got a couple other handles besides GirlWithInk, this is just the one that is easiest for other people to remember in connection with me scenewise and IRL, the one that no one will forget or misspell or misunderstand. ^.^ Yes, when I start exchanging private messages with someone I sign them with something that is not GirlWithInk. I've always thought that names are important; on occasion I have ordered pets to change their character names, email addresses, online handles, and what-have-you to reflect the Name I call them by, and I would be offended if anyone who knew me personally and well called me by my legal name instead of the name I am used to hearing. If you've poked your nose into the Gorean side of things often enough, you've likely come across the idea that a slave is named whatever the slave's owner wishes; if you're a history buff or a fantasy fan you know about True Names and usenames, that names were considered to be things of power; in short, if you know something's name you ~KNOW~ that something, and if you can change something's name you can change that something at a base, essential level. I think this is quite true, and because of that, when I see someone with a name like 'hard4U_93384' or 'cumsluttt17' I assume that the name fits the person: generic, tacky, bumblingly obvious or an outright liar, with no imagination and no taste. When I see a name like TrueCalling or hisannabelle or FukinTroll, I assume they chose that name for a reason, and respect them for having the ability to come up with something that represents them as something unique, rather than justanotherclone338 or badspelerwifnotaste24. Yeah, I'll shut up now. *wry grin* Sorry, names are a subject I could chatter about for hours.
