Status: offline 		I have found this very interesting. Knowing how others think about profiles gives me some more insight. I admit I find the vanilla interests more useful. I'm more interested in the person than the kink and I'm flexible. I also find the kink part useful since I have a serious thing with blood and finding other people interested is difficult. So everything being equal I would invest more energy in getting to know another vampire/blood fetishist than someone else. But the bottom line is I would rather meet a person squicked by blood who I liked than a blood freak who creeped me out.

I've never had a problem with being flooded with mail and am quick on the delete key with one liners and other irritating mails.  Still I understand a woman who draws a lot of wanker attention would put up more defenses.

Status: offline 		For those of us looking for a 24/7 relationship, it helps to know more about others than merely their kink preferences.  A 24/7 slave isn't one who's under instruction 24/7; everyone has more substance and dimensions than merely the Dom or sub within. 
 
Compatible kink is what brings us together but it ain't enough to keep you together without boredom setting in....  Frankly, I'd go nuts if it were up to me to keep my 24/7 slave motivated and occupied all our waken hours.  She'll be needing a hobby of some sorts as I also have my own and, besides, surely everyone needs a regular recharge to ensure the kink dimension doesn't go flat....  If kink is all you ever envisage yourself doing, it soon becomes mundane and you don't really have much to look forward too....
 
So I don't mind having a browse at a potential slave's "vanilla interests" - even though I never did get around to filling out my own....

I'm going to agree wholeheartedly with Geekygirl on this one fellas.  I don't list anything but vanilla interests on my profile, as well, though I do state in my journal why.

As for your comment above, porthuronsub, I can only say that "saving time" was furthest from my thoughts when I began my search.  I take this pretty seriously and was willing to put in as much time as necessary.

Early in our relationship, FirmHandKY commented to me that he wasn't concerned that I had no kinks listed... though we did discuss them fairly quickly after we'd established basic compatibility.  As I'm intelligent and fully aware that this is a kink site, it seemed obvious to him that I wouldn't have sought the attention of a companion here unless I were kinky also.

I met my Mistress through alt, and I knew alot about her from the moment I read her profile.  It let me know if we would be a match in all the areas I felt were important.  I find the entire persons likes and dislikes important.  I had been with women who said they liked the lifestyle and then when it came down to it they hadn't done anything or very little.  They also were freaked out by some of my interests, so for me having more information on the profiles is a plus.  I can breeze over the ones that would definitely not match my "complete" interests and spend time emailing the ones who have alot in common.
This isn't an issue with me as much anymore.  Now I just look at the profiles of those who send me messages or ones I see posting in the forums that i am curious about.

I agree.  Saying "I like X" is not the same as saying "I am willing to do X with you, when I haven't even met you. ..." (although most guys take it that way).  It's kind of like the question "Do you put out on the first date?"  The only way to answer that question is to have that first date. ... It's one thing if it happens, and quite another to have the expectation that it will happen (whether there's any chemistry there or not!).
