Kellogg replied, “Let him do it; people need good, healthful food.” Until his hospitalization at Kellogg's Sanitarium, Post had sold his wife’s homemade suspenders from door to door. But, somehow, he managed to scrape $69 together, and started making corn flakes in his kitchen. The result was Post Toasties. Like W.K. Kellogg, Post too became a multimillionaire.

Masturbation was formerly labeled "self-abuse" after the 18th century Swiss physician Tissot transformed it from a moral to a medical problem. From the mid-1700s until the early 1900s, the medical profession was dominated by physicians who believed that masturbation caused a host of maladies ranging from acne to death. A half a century ago, sex researcher Alfred Kinsey complained that the scientific classifications of sexual behavior were, in his day, based on theology rather than biology. In 1952, in the first edition of the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders - a.k.a. the DSM - sexual behaviors such as masturbation, homosexuality, fellatio, cunnilingus, and sexual promiscuity were all codified as pathological; that is, as forms of mental illness. Countless homosexuals suffered because their desires were labeled by the medical profession, and by the general public as well, as perversions. Transvestites still suffer from a similar DSM stigma even today. The history of sexual attitudes shows that the labeling of sexual behaviors has generally been based more on morality than science - even when it is scientists, rather than lay persons, who are using these labels - and that such labeling can have negative consequences.

Even today, most of the activities practiced (or fantasized about) by those on this site interested in BDSM are considered by the DSM-IV - the latest revision of the DSM - and the tenth revision of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) to be pathological perversions called paraphilia. A paraphilia is defined as any of a group of psychosexual disorders characterized by sexual fantasies, feelings, or activities involving a non-human object, a non-consenting partner such as a child, or pain or humiliation of oneself or one's partner. Also called a sexual deviation. Almost all paraphilia involve masturbation.

So there you have it. If you don't eat your Wheaties, the Breakfast of Champions, you too can end up with a major paraphilia such as chronic masturbation. OTOH, sissy would argue that anyone that actually enjoys eating Corn Flakes more than once a month is a major masochist ... so you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't, aren't you ?
