To the OP:

My response to this, all sarcasm aside, is if you want a respectful answer then you must ask your question respectfully. I would exclude such phrases as "pissing contest". Personally, when I make a starter post I try very hard to be as respectful as possible both because I feel it's polite and because yes, the people here will make whatever minor judgement of me based on what I post. This is why I do not start all that many threads, though I do have a few brewing around in my mind.

As for the forums themselves, I find them to be delightful. They are full of annoyances, but so is any social group. It's like encountering your ex-lover at a party, you know the one who really broke your heart. Or just your guitar. I have learned a lot and I will continue to learn a lot. And, as I've been informed, I've also helped others. I don't have a lot of connections to the local BDSM community for various reasons and this gives me a place where I can joke around, learn and help others. All very satisfying. And at least with this, I click ignore on the ones who really grate at my nerves.

Hi. I'm completely new here and have had no contact with anyone on this board and wouldn't waste a minute of my valuable time running the spell checker for your benefit. My point, which I have the constitutional and god given right to spew without regard for consequences or fear of offending a bunch of people I have never met, is that you are all a bunch of fake, whiny, egomaniacal loosers but I say that with total respect so don't dare call me on my bullshit or you will just prove my point.

Please agree with me and be gentle.

Rispekfully,
Noo Bee.

Go outside smell the fresh cold air ...

There are some really wonderful things about smelling and feeling and breathing cold air.
Snowshoeing.
Shovelling the driveway with Daddy.
Hot-tubbing under a full moon and snowy skies.
Naked snow angels.
Midday walks wearing multiple layers.
Walking on water.

Soon the hidden bulbs will reveal the locations of their secret winter lairs and this will all be a memory.
I say breathe in as much as you can before it's gone.

I think this is just another case of you mis-understanding someone, when it is extremely highly likely that no insult or offense was intended, myobedience (or whoever else may be interested). You are not the first person who has ever experienced this (nor will you be the last, IMO).

I think people need to remember that with the internet, there is no way to gauge things like someone's facial expression, and a lot of times nuance in what they say. This many times (I've seen) results in a thing known as "jumping to conclusions." If someone knows someone fairly well, it's a lot easier to judge what the "really mean" by what they say, and even then, mistakes can be made.

People can also tend to judge eachother based soley on what their own, particular, individual life experiences have been in similar (but certainly not identical, for obvious reasons) circumstances, IMO. Hmmm. Now how could that Ever be a potential problem, I ask you? hehehehe...

When you are communicating in a text only medium your words say it all, especially when you are new. It's not the reader's job to look into your heart and understand what you meant. If someone opines that they "see all these alternative lifestyle sites as  a pissing contest" I can only assume they mean just that. When they add that they do not intend to clarify what they mean as it is "self evident" they want me to do their work for them. Sorry but I have better things to do than parse poorly constructed insults looking for redeeming qualities.

It is the responsibility of the person with the message to present it clearly, not of the reader to untangle it.

Zensee: Well, yeah, there's that. I do realize that, too. If you're interested in how long I can actually go on about it, see my post on the "Angry by Default" thread.
People are going to say what they think, if an OP has "opened the door."

But - they also said they "didn't want to be misunderstood" - which leads me to believe they really were looking for reasons this can happen. Possibly just pissing and moaning, but maybe not. I wrote practically a tome about it on that other thread(and your reason, Zensee, was one observation I had in there. If someone is going to lead with a judgmental comment, then "If one can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen", etc. - I agree.

I don't think it necessarily is the reader's job to "decode" a poster. On the other hand, what does 99 times out of 100 lead to, if one comments negatively? More of the same. My opinion, there's a 50-50 chance some one will think about if what they said could possibly have been mis-interpreted due to poor wording, etc. Maybe worth a shot. Unless one wants to listen to them rant for the same reasons on other threads, other posts, etc. People don't change over-night, and some never do. If I don't like it I can turn off my PC. But some do, sometimes, especially if they are seeking genuine feed-back.

I hope they read it, the "Anger by Default" thread. Because it's just too damn long for me to re-write my post (or anyone's from there) here. But it's about this exact same topic, in many ways.

juliaoceania: Good point. I almost said it on a different thread, yesterday. Iam not sure what this ever leads to. I have seen some people who were genuinely surprised by comments they received out of the starting gate, and others just want to  bitch. Who knows? I can't see their face, I don't know where this is all a-goin.

Everyone: I gotta go to bed. Believe it or not, I have Jury Duty tommorrow (no lie). Ha! (I really honestly do. Isn't that weird?)

No worries! We've all (or least most of us) have lost our heads here in one way or another.

Thanks, Aquatic. I have not gone to bed yet. Really should go. Think I am a net addict. If I tell them that tommorrow, maybe they will let me come home, hehe.

It could be interesting, though - I've always wanted to do it, but the timing is bad.
I have a mid-March plane ticket to visit my Daddy for the first time in Texas. If this case isn't over then, I am faking my own death to leave town, hehe.

Got up and called the court house, because it's icy and the card I got telling me I had to be there said to call first - and my jury duty was cancelled (maybe the case settled out of court). I am happy and sort of disappointed at the same time. Not sure why  am tellig anyone this, but it might have been kinda interesting to go. Oh well...
