Rubberpuppet -> What is you real Opinion of these "Sites" (2/27/2007 7:57:15 PM)

Now before you "flame" me I am not complaning , and it's going to sound like it but I am just exercising my right of "free speach" Now remember this my "obverastion" I see all these "alternative lifestyle sites as  a" pissing contest".And everyone is trying piss for distance. I really hope i don't have to explain this as it is self-expalnitory. I want to hear what you have to say and don't hold back. But try to be respectfull if you can?

SusanofO -> RE: What is you real Opinion of these "Sites" (2/27/2007 8:05:23 PM)

There is a thread that sort of touches on this topic on the "Off Topic Discussion" forum (page two, I think). The name of the thread is called "Anger By Default" - my opinion is on there about this. It's too long to re-write here.

It happens here, it happens on most forums, bdsm related or not, IMO. I try to ignore it and be polite anyway, barring extreme cirumstances. If you want to know more about my opinion, feel free to read that post. There are also many nice folks here, too, IMO. Btw, my opinion on this, and how and why it happens is pretty long, if you look it up.

- Susan

The only thing I see around here that's pissing is your "spelling."

QuietDom -> RE: What is you real Opinion of these "Sites" (2/27/2007 8:07:24 PM)

"Pissing contests" appear on every open forum on the Internet, "alternative lifestyle" oriented or not.  It's nothing specific to WIITWD, it's just human nature.

It seems to me that the atmosphere on boards/sites like this one cycle several times a year.
Sometimes there is worthwhile, informative and enlightening dialogue.
Other times, its the all-personality-all-the-time network.
You take the good and the bad together and make your own choices about what you are going to read.
There's always the option of turning off the computer and going outside.

Free speech? It did occur to you that many people here are in chains, cuffs, and collars and get the hell beat of them often right?

SusanofO -> RE: What is you real Opinion of these "Sites" (2/27/2007 8:16:25 PM)

Well, I sometimes visit a non-bdsm related political forum where some folks' responses would make your hair curl. Really.
I thought for awhile, it was maybe that some Doms or Dommes here (as well as subs and slaves) were more prone to personality-disorders due to being abused children, etc. to chalk up some of it, when it occurs (according to my own perceptions, of course). If that is actually true, then some of the folks on the non-bdsm related political forums I sometimes visit must have also had Hellish childhoods, he he.[:D]

Where I grew up the phrase "pissing contest" wasn't used as a mark of respect and wasn't used in respectful conversation. Please enlighten me as to where this is taught as respectful because I'd like to avoid living there.

As for you, if you want to get respect start giving it. I don't believe I've talked to you in all my days on the forum so I haven't said anything disrespectful to you. However, I will note your words to be sure and give you the proper dosage of respect the next time we met.

There are some really wonderful things about smelling and feeling and breathing cold air.
Snowshoeing.
Shovelling the driveway with Daddy.
Hot-tubbing under a full moon and snowy skies.
Naked snow angels.
Midday walks wearing multiple layers.
Walking on water.

Soon the hidden bulbs will reveal the locations of their secret winter lairs and this will all be a memory.
I say breathe in as much as you can before it's gone.

Yeah, but Aqua never asked anyone else to be respectful.

That's like if you ask me to not fucking swear.  I never fucking said you couldn't swear, but don't swear as you ask me not to.

Of course, no one can stop the OP, but we can call them on it.

Yours,

benji

SusanofO -> RE: What is you real Opinion of these "Sites" (2/27/2007 8:25:13 PM)

Maybe re-thinking what I just said...he. I really honestly believe that ignoring people who "dis-respect" one on a website is often the safest and most effective route, unless - they say something that is so UnGodly awful one cannot bear to let it pass. Reasons:

It "defuses" the ongoing tit-for tat that inevitably ensues.

It doesn't give some the attention they so obviously crave, and re-inforce their behavior for all the wrong reasons.

It is their Dominant's job to dominate them, and try to alter their behavior, dammit, not mine. I am not the baby-sitter, and would prefer to save my energy for those I love, family and friends, and extend courtesy to those others on-line who can also extend it (as very many also do).

I might try to get back to the topic at hand, or express some empathy for them if I feel they've been genuinely mis-understood by some other posters. I might even do this more than once. But will I keep it up for pages? Probably not.

1) Poeple have to learn how to get along with other people sometime and -

2) There are actually some folks who live to argue irrationally, are overly sensitive, etc. Is it my job to "raise them"?

3) No, it's not.

I'd rather discuss a real topic, 99% of the time.

bastardandthewen -> RE: What is you real Opinion of these "Sites" (2/27/2007 8:26:37 PM)

I view sites like this as learning tools. A great place to read on the philosophies and practices of likeminds, or to research a particular tool or technique. they are also great for networking, if you live in a region that does not have a thriving fetish scene.

Anyone who thinks that online sites sich as this exsist solely to function as a "pissing contest" has not spent enough time in their local fet scene -  munches, fetish clubs and dungeons- all have their fair share of wankers pissing in the pool and trying to spoil the experience for others.

The difference is - it is far easier to ignore the arsehats in print then when they are in your face.

This is common on lots of message boards.. one I am thinking of is a sports board..
many times a qustion or post dwindles into who has the best insider info, who's been a fan the longest, who knows more about football... totally losing track of the op. There are also a lot of jabs about spelling and grammer.. it just comes form having a large group of people together.. very different people with one common interest.
Kind of like what would happen in any random group of people..
