JLION -> Cheap/Lame/Tacky homemade toy? (3/2/2007 10:46:54 PM)

What is the most cheap, lame, or tacky homemade or store bought item that you have seen?

For example, I once considered taking safety goggles and covering them with duct-tape to make a blindfold, but I just thought that was way too cheap and tacky, no matter how effective it really would be. For the submissives, are there any items or bondage setups that you have seen or heard of that just kind of made you cringe? For me, honestly, I know there are a lot of "frugal dom" guides on the internet and some of the ideas no matter how creative they are, just seem too tacky for my taste.

Great new thread!

I have seen some homemade inventions that make me roll my eyes and cringe. Most of them I can't even describe. I knew a dom who somehow screwed normal phillips head screws into the ends of his toys with the screw end poking out so that he had a screwable dildo or buttplug that could be attached to various places like the wall or even his home-made fucking machine. Some of you might think this sounds nifty but I promise it wasn't.

Oh yeah, I've seen a couple.  A few years back when I was making gear and vending at the Boston Fetish Flea, a friend of a friend came up to my table to show me the "chain mail flogger" she had made.  The thing she pulled out of the bag to show me appeared to be a length of jack chain doubled over half a dozen times with one end wrapped in 10" of clear packing tape as a handle.  She beamed with pride as she showed it to me.

Later that night at one of the afterparties, she sat in the corner dejected because no one would let her use it on them.

Well, I am not sure if this is lame, cheap or tacky,---but I love rulers! [:D]
There is something about a nice old fashioned ruler, I only buy the wooden ones,
the Westcott I am looking at has been around since 1872.
Welcome Jlion, I am enjoying your posts--you are also hot as hell.
So far, you are a breath of badly needed fresh air.[:D]

WhiplashSmile -> RE: Cheap/Lame/Tacky homemade toy? (3/2/2007 11:36:21 PM)

Oh Gawd... This is really tacky...  KIDS Stickers from the Dollar Store... I bought a whole bunch of them... I covered her body all over and took pictures of.it...  Flowers, Barbie, Barney and Flintstones... I can't remember all of them, it's been that long ago...  Placed one which was a star right in the middle of her forehead...

Licorice strings tied together as a flogger. LOL a strawberry flogger no less.
Stingy as heck, and it worked really well.

catize -> RE: Cheap/Lame/Tacky homemade toy? (3/3/2007 4:45:02 AM)

Rolled up newspaper during puppy play.  Cheap, certainly, but very effective, I was surprised cuz it f***in' HURT!

angeldevil -> RE: Cheap/Lame/Tacky homemade toy? (3/3/2007 5:05:50 AM)

A damp tea towel, a damn good flick of the wrist and perfect aim....can still remember the sting!

BrainSlugs83 -> RE: Cheap/Lame/Tacky homemade toy? (3/3/2007 6:01:37 AM)

I agree, wet towels are the cheapest whips (heck, even a dry towl can hurt like hell!)...

Hmm, I tied a girl up with an ethernet cord once... I was suprised it still worked afterwords! [:D] (ethernet cables are pretty fragile and prone to break when you "kink" them)

MsKatHouston -> RE: Cheap/Lame/Tacky homemade toy? (3/3/2007 6:06:54 AM)

OK I am a bit of a toy snob.  I like home made stuff but it has to have personality and functionality.  For example, I have spreader bar that is home made.  It's functional but it is also green which is my signature color.  So it works.  I had a sub once make me a home made version of a KTB using a strip of vinyl, staples and duct tape.

sub4hire -> RE: Cheap/Lame/Tacky homemade toy? (3/3/2007 6:12:28 AM)

Most people love them.  I love them, but well made ones.  I cannot stand cheaply made floggers.  You need a well balanced flogger.
Not some piece of trash someone made when they could'nt even cut the leather straight.
A good flogger is a work of art.

BOUNTYHUNTER -> RE: Cheap/Lame/Tacky homemade toy? (3/3/2007 6:21:51 AM)

WE love home made toys our spreader bars are make from conduite and chains ,WE find lots of interesting things at the tack shop or walmart or hard ware stores...I love pins thousands of them painted a glow in the dark colur...spring clamps that hold down stuff to saw is a hard clamp and will bring tears to your eyes while on a nipple or clit..WE are always looking for interesting stuff..bounty

BrainSlugs83 -> RE: Cheap/Lame/Tacky homemade toy? (3/3/2007 6:37:42 AM)

I've actually been considering making a spreader bar now that I think about it...

I've got a piece of black metal tube that I could run a rope through and make adjustable knots on each end...  I just have to saw it to the right length, then sand it down...

MsKatHouston -> RE: Cheap/Lame/Tacky homemade toy? (3/3/2007 6:40:32 AM)

Spreader bars are cool homemade toys.  I have several homemade toys and also kinkified toys that are simply vanilla items.  I agree with Bounthyhunter regarding tack shops and hardware stores.  I also find cool things at cookware stores.  But for me, they have to have a certain umph.  I have seen some really bad homemade stuff that either looks tacky or is so poorly made that it is not functional or not safe.  I cringe... ;)

And you get to eat it later! What actually could be better than that?

Oh, licorice strips for bondage don't work at all well but again you get to eat them.

Padriag -> RE: Cheap/Lame/Tacky homemade toy? (3/3/2007 6:45:56 AM)

Let's see things I've seen.... a "crop" that was actually just one of those handle/rod things from venetian blinds... a "leather" flogger made out of cheap "leatherette" vinyl (the kind you'd cover a chair with) cut into strands and duck taped together (what made it really cheap was they insisted it was latigo leather [8|])... a cut down flyswatter "crop"...

I'm all for inexpensive and creative homemade ideas, we can all use them.  But sometimes you really wish someone had put a little pride and craftsmanship into their "project".

Mistress' favorite cheap toy is the free paint stirring stick from Sherwin-Williams.
I have also seen fly swatters that can raise some pretty (nasty) welts.

It would appear that it liked that kink.

Mikal -> RE: Cheap/Lame/Tacky homemade toy? (3/3/2007 11:58:03 AM)

Would Troll slurp be considered tacky? I mean, when it dries... I doubt it vanishes like alcohol... and he playfully slurps so much... *weg*

Fitznicely -> RE: Cheap/Lame/Tacky homemade toy? (3/3/2007 12:48:06 PM)

Well...there was the shock-corded pole from an old tent which made three crops of various widths, or the broom handle (and screw-in rings from the hardware shop) we use as a spreaderbar*, or the steady supply of really badly made £1 paddles sold by - bizarrely - a local greetings card shop, or maybe there's the wooden spoons for 35p?

Kink on a budget. Nothing better!

* Does it still count as cheap and tacky if you see the same kind of spreaderbar being used on SM websites?
