If this is the case, what music would you class as christian? As not to offend the dear Pope.

Excuse me... since I think the Pope is as close to Christianity as a Satanic Bible is.... I don't care...

i've been told that most of my life in a Baptist Church however i really don't give a flying fig what the Pope or my pastor thinks. this rock babe is going to continue reviewing rock, metal etc bands every weekend.

This pope is a nazi. What can you expect from A NAZI.

I have nothing but contempt for the church and will now be taking my mp3 player loaded with rock into a catholic church to listen to. [:D]

The man is not a Nazi. He was in the Hitler Youth as a young boy, but then so were most kids in Germany. It was part and parcel of life and it hardly makes him a Nazi.

He does however hold some warped views on Islam and as a man in a position of serious power and responsibilty, it ain't healthy.

Did he pass comment on the music he believes is Christian? Wagner, perhaps? He wasn't exactly sweetness, light, equality and empathy was he.

Personally I don't give a fig wether I offend the pope or any other religious leader. They need to all get real jobs anyway.

Obviously we need to send the pope some new CD's to listen to. Perhaps we should begin to come up with a few suggestions......

How about a song that used to be my daughters favourite......"I like big butts and I can not lie........"

You need to make better polls. You are skewing the results with your options. I can't vote.

You know there is a huge difference between being Christian and being Catholic. I'm Christian and I'm a Baptist. At my church (it's very liberal for Baptists) we welcome homosexuals, wear jeans, give services about how Jesus probably wouldn't buy the "WWJD" bracelets, how the paster felt after watching the movie "Sin City", we take communion once a month, and we don't have confessionals. More importantly, we don't listen much to the man in the funny hat.

No offense to the Catholics out there. I'm sure the funny hat man is very nice. [:)]

By the way, have you ever noticed that the groups you are always allowed to kill in video games are vampires, zombies, large spiders, and Nazis? Which is why BloodRayne is among the perfect games - you get to kill all of them!

That's considered the "gateway drug" in terms of music choices. [:D]

What kind of music does a former member of the Hitler Youth think is Christian?

Wagner? I hear Wagner was a crossdresser, btw.

The Hitler Youth (HJ) was a paramilitary organization of the Nazi Party.

By definition, membership in the HJ was membership in the Nazi party.

Compulsary after 1938. Doesn't change the fact, ONCE a Nazi, ALWAYS a Nazi. There are some sins absolution is not available for. There is some evil which stains the soul in ways it can never recover from.

Like the sin of judgement?

This was a climate in which those who did not agree with the Nazis were killed. A child is easily led yet you want to condemn children with the same fervor as those who flipped the gas switches.

Before I can pass judgement, I need more information as to what he actually did and what he actually knew. Many children were fed propaganda like chocolates, and I for one will not condemn the soul of a child because of the climate they were unfortunate enough to grow up in.

The thread is in danger of being derailed into a Nazi one, so this is my last post in the subject.

As per AquaticSub's post, context is everything. Enrolment in the Hitler Youth was compulsory, so making the leap to always a Nazi is not fair. By extension, you're saying that every kid in Germany was a Nazi, which is even more harsh when you consider the regime of terror.

In terms of Wagner, the cross dresser accusation has never been proven. There is some evidence for his liking for women's refineries  however (as per requests to Italian designers). It's clouded because he had a skin condition (forget the name) which meant fine material, normally used for womens' clothing, was better suited to him. He most certainly was a dedicated racist and anti-semite.

On the Pope, he is an extremely conservative catholic (even by Pope standards). The irony is that Europe is the most secular continent on earth and his extreme conservatism will only hasten the de-christianisation of Europe as opposed to restore it to its former glory. The link with rock and roll music is that he, and the Catholic church, see modernisation as the cause of the decline of the church, which is true - education, liberalisation, social freedom etc.

I'm not one of Benedict's biggest fans (to put it mildly), but I'd prefer to hear what the man actually said before commenting on it.
