dontneednocollar -> Collarme.com on Court TV (3/8/2007 4:54:54 PM)

I was browsing the net today when I stumbled across an article at Court TV's Crime Library about Albert W. Hsu, the man who posted a profile here in an attempt to get his mistress raped and abducted. The same news article mentions this website.  Here is a link:  http://www.crimelibrary.com/news/original/0307/0801_albert_hsu.html  While I feel the article is a well written account and does not bash the site like other articles, I am distressed by that particular websites message board.  A moderator with the screen name Freshwater has started a thread called: A brave new world of opportunities.  Here is a link: http://boards.crimelibrary.com/showthread.php?t=280862  The poster writes this: "The site collarme.com where the information was posted should be closed. I think the owners should be facing charges for allowing this type of "request" to be posted and remain on the site."  The person goes on and on about this website and how evil it is.  Perhaps some of us should go over there and share our own opinions?  I don't mean to start yelling and calling names, but to present our views on why this site should be here and how most of us are law abiding citizens.  What do you guys think?

Mysti -> RE: Collarme.com on Court TV (3/8/2007 5:05:54 PM)

Its the angry villager mentality. This moderator over there is looking for a reaction by posting that, and is most likely trying to get other members to chime in with Yeah those freaks! shut the site down! Would going over there and trying to talk to deaf ears hurt or harm? I'm not ashamed of who I am, but I also dont open myself up to potential ridicule from those that choose not to accept or understand [:)]

dontneednocollar -> RE: Collarme.com on Court TV (3/8/2007 5:09:01 PM)

Your probably right. I just found it annoying.

Mysti -> RE: Collarme.com on Court TV (3/8/2007 6:14:24 PM)

Oh I didnt say it wasnt annoying *grins* I can see both sides though. I that BDSMers were freaky till i tried it. Fear of the unknown causes people to get that angry villager mentaility though

kc692 -> RE: Collarme.com on Court TV (3/11/2007 9:54:31 AM)

It seems noone is taking his bait, there are no replies to his post.

ShadowLord1313 -> RE: Collarme.com on Court TV (3/13/2007 5:46:37 AM)

Just My two cents, but that's because although W/we as a community are shunned, vanilla folk know of O/our existance and don't wish to cause an uprising similar to that of the gays, lesbians, transexuals and bisexuals that caused the whole pride day ceremonies.  Could you imagine the turnout for a kink day?
*grins darkly*

happypervert -> RE: Collarme.com on Court TV (3/13/2007 5:56:12 AM)

Court TV should be thrilled that collarme exists! Sensational cases like Hsu's are money in the bank for them.

I expect all this publicity will drive traffic to this site by both the morally outraged and curious others ; the latter may have "AHA!" moments where they find kindred spirits.

BBBTBW -> RE: Collarme.com on Court TV (3/14/2007 8:46:50 AM)

Maybe I am wrong or maybe policies have changed since I first joined collarme.  (This is a second profile I actually joined the first time in 2002 but had problems with it) BUT I thought there was policy against posting such personal information on your profile and that your submission would be rejected.  I remember when I tried to post my yahoo messenger ID, they edited it.  How did her personal information get past the moderators, or has policy changed?

LadyBeckett -> RE: Collarme.com on Court TV (3/28/2007 10:38:57 AM)

Sometimes people speak (write/type) before considering that they may not have all the facts.  Freshwater is obviously one of them.  He goes on to say (in the same post), "If the accused actually did this it is equivalent to attempted first degree murder IMHO. He should be sentenced accordingly and given additional time for the sadistic nature of this offense. This individual is a danger to society and needs to be removed from it. Maybe in prison, a fellow inmate will spread the rumor that HE has a secret fantasy to be "surprised" and gang raped. Now that would be an interesting twist to the story".
How interesting is that?  Seems like Freshwater has a few kinks of his own.  [;)]

michaelOfGeorgia -> RE: Collarme.com on Court TV (3/28/2007 10:59:27 AM)

i looked up the profile mentioned: behonestwithme that had posted an inquiry about who many people had responded to that guy's ad...but it must have been pulled

SweetPurity -> RE: Collarme.com on Court TV (3/29/2007 3:34:31 AM)

I apologize for getting slightly off track of the main point but...

Maybe I just watch too much TV, but did no one else notice that Hsu's actions are literally an exact copy of an episode of The Closer: A man wanting to get back a women posts her information on an internet singles ad about her fantasy of wanting a man to 'break into her house and rape her'. He even posted where they could find her spare key. This also ended up leading to her accidental death.

I guess I'm just wondering if this is where he got the idea, because this episode aired just last summer.

Urza -> RE: Collarme.com on Court TV (3/30/2007 8:38:06 PM)

Fucking hell :(

Why would you put BDSM in the limelight of crime.

phreakonaleash -> RE: Collarme.com on Court TV (3/30/2007 9:48:50 PM)

""The defendant set the victim up to be abducted and raped by a complete stranger," Goldstein said. "There is an admission; there was a confession to police officers."  Goldstein also said Hsu was taking subscription psychotropic drugs and that he should be considered suicidal."
I think that says all it needs to in regards to this mans mental health. I agree with the previous points made by a few of you about the "angry villager" mentality that the masses adopt to things they do not understand.

However, looking at that from a criminal standpoint, it is a pretty sloppy of collarme to allow its users to post such personal information that can be viewed by anyone with a computer and internet connection. There are millions of computer users that could stumble across the site. I think this issue needs to be rectified before the issue will "go away".

There is also though, the aforementioned quote about the standing of this idiots mental health. I like to think that all websites are used with a degree of common sense. That's all it takes to keep yourself out of trouble on the net. What Hsu did was totally wrong. There is no excuse for it, mental health or otherwise. They need to put him away and anyone else that thinks that personals sites are here for the leisure of criminal activity. People with normal brains, and the ability to use them even to a minority, should know better than to post such information about another person.

I stand by that collarme should rectify this problem straight away and disallow its user to post such personal information. If you want to exchange information like that, however stupid it may be, IM chat programs are plentiful, and you can use a webcam to "identify" better whether or not you are actually speaking to whomever the other person is claiming to be.

It's a shame that collarme has to be portrayed in such poor light, I have used this site for more than 2 years now and I have never had a problem, except for the odd "fake" evil dipshit.

Hurt v Harm - Keep it in mind.

Her personal information was NOT a part of the profile.  If you do a minimal amount of research, you can find the affadavit online concerning the arrest and charges.  Short story: some dude wrote to the person posing as the woman Hsu was targeting.  Hsu communicated, as the woman with this kink, all of her personal information including her car description, her description, and her personal travel information (a particular train stop).  When the inquring fellow asked for a phone number to further negotiate the encounter, Hsu obviously refused, causing inquiring fellow to get suspicious.  Inquiring fellow looked up the name of the person he was given, found her phone listing and called her.  She freaked out and called the cops, telling them that she suspected this scorned ex-lover.

Again -- collarme did not allow any such thing to transpire.  I'm not sure where you've manufactured that from.  There was an email exchange between an ad respondent and Hsu posing as the woman wanting the abduction.  Hsu provided her name, info on her car, her physical description, and her travel habits.  When the respondent pushed for a phone number, Hsu obviously reniged.  The respondent used what information he knew and found a phone number for the alleged woman, and called her, and she's the one who then called police.

Oh, do you mean something like Leather Pride Night? And BTW, us "kinksters" have been marching in Pride parades nation wide and making ourselves known as such, for as long as the Pride marches have existed.

Edited to add: Come on out to Folsom Street East (or-Folsom St for those nearer to the West Coast) and get an eye-full!

Actually, to infer a lot from his use of subscription (sic; I think you may have meant prescription) psychotropics and being classified as suicidal, is pretty much the same kind of knee-jerk response that lots of vanilla people have to BDSM: "Oh, right, s/he would like to whip some poor victim. That's all I need to know about how sick s/he is."

If you check the lifetime prevalence figures, a significant segment of the population (in the 30-50% range) will experience a psychiatric disorder at some point in their lives, not counting Parkinson's, which sets in with age as a natural part of the aging process that some people are more susceptible to than others (we all get it, unless we die first or take prophylactic drugs).

There's obviously something amiss with this guy, which I'm not contesting, but I think your post comes across as rather prejudiced against people with mental health issues, something which is common, but not justified.

Inferring his mental state, or implying that others that satisfy the same criterion (prescription psychotropics, mental illness) are any more likely to do such a thing than J. Doe seems silly and rude, so I hope I misread you here.

What he did can be chalked up to who he is, and what kind of wiring he has; this is the stuff you need to know if you want to judge a person, and his illness and treatment will not tell you these things.

phreakonaleash -> RE: Collarme.com on Court TV (4/5/2007 11:53:30 PM)

Ok, in reference to what you are saying Aswad, the first part of your argument is dismissable merely by the fact that it is a direct quote. I did not write it, hence it is in quotations. If you go back to the first message that started this thread and read the article provided, I'm sure you'll see that.

As for the average Vanilla responce to BDSM, I completely agree. People have told me I am mentally ill when I tell them I would one day like to put suspended upsidedown and tortured... But that's a different story.

What I was saying about his mental health was that he is obviously a looney tune. I'm sorry if this offends anyone, but I feel it's pretty damn obvious. People like that need help. They shouldn't be allow to sit infront of a computer and post viral and potentially harmful messages pretending to be someone else.

And yes, ok, to those of you who responded to tell me that the information was not exchanged through "her" profile but through messages, proving that the difference between here and IM programs is miniscule, I get it. Stop! I didn't have time to do a lot of background reading, I just took the article at face value without a lot of surrounding information.

In reference to your stating that 30 - 50% of the population experience some sort of psychiatric disorder in their lifetime... That may be so, but think about it. Do you know how easy prescription drugs are to obtain? I had a friend walk into a doctor's surgery and fabricate some bullshit story about how she's upset all the time and she came out with a prescription for Prozac AND Lexipro! Two anti-depressants, from one 10 minute visit... That's bullshit. There was nothing wrong with her. It is far too easy to obtain prescription medication these days. The people that genuinely need them and are not attention seeking are few and far between.

You have "emo" teenagers in high schools these days, cutting themselves to be "cool" a part of the "in" croud. It's sickening. They go to the doctor and get themselves put on some sort of anti-depressant or mood stablizer and go and tell their friends who feel "sorry" for them and then they whinge about how hard their lives are when they're sitting with a phone,keyboard, etc in their hand, in a 1st world country, with no poverty, with a roof over their heads, whinging about how hard their fucking lives are, while there's people out there starving! Dying!

The way the human race acknowledges mental illness has changed a lot in the last 10 years and people nowadays are using it more and more as an excuse to not do things, to have no motivation or direction in their lives or to do things that they know are inappropriate.

Maybe I am prejudice toward people with mental illness, but I myself have been on anti-depressants previously and I can tell you they don't work. lol. I can also tell you that a lot of "mental illness" these days is bullshit, fabricated attention seeking. Especially in America. And a lot in Australia because most of us tend to lead by example. It's pathetic.

And lastly, I'm nearly finished boring you all to death, don't worry. Lastly, I wasn't really analysing him as a person, there's not enough information about him to do so. But thinking about someone's mental state does have a lot to do with how they act, percieve right from wrong and what they do. If someone is psychotic, which it sounds to me like he is, then they have a greater risk of doing stupid things like Mr Hsu did. His actions were psychotic, inexcusable and down right retarded.

We need to get people like that off the damn street. What the fuck is wrong with people these days?

Can't we all sit down, listen to APC and start writing "Peace Theory 2007"...
