I am confident that he is in a much better place tonight. What an amazing man. He touched so many from all walks of life and made huge differences in the world. He has certainly left some big shoes to fill.

I truly admired that man. I didn't always agree with his positions (in particular sexuality and reproductive rights) but I was thrilled by his commitment to social justice, to reaching out to other religions, to making the Church truly international.

Moreover, he truly lived his faith.... right up to the end. All other popes have hidden themselves when ill but he presented his infirm self for all to see - publically enduring pain so that others might take courage.

This maybe sounds cold, but I don't feel sorry for his death.
First of all he stood for many things that are not acceptable in modern society of 21 century.

Second of all,he is 85 years old,he lived well, what I am sad about is 30.000 children dying of starving everyday, they don't get to experince their live as a child.
From the first breath they took,to the last, those children where suffering.

These famous words are really correct:
One death is a tragedy,1 million deaths is statistics.

I feel sorry for anyone who leaves this world behind...I try to have respect for all life. Mabye exept for child molesters, rapists
or murderers.

I do however think that the Pope was over-rated and was a cult figure to many.

One thing is certain...the Catholic church needs to change rapidly..or it will be
destined for the ash heap of history. I don't see how anyone can follow such a rigid,
cruel, repressive lifestyle. Mabye I just see it that way..I don't know.

I am for freedom of religion..just keep it out of politics, government and my personal life please.

It could also be mentioned that 5000 children die every day from malaria and yet this rarely makes the news.

I understand that you do not feel for the Pope's death. Perhaps you never attended a papal mass or felt stirred by his angry calls for the developed world to assist the poor. But many of us did feel a connection to John Paul II and do mourn his passing.

I agree with sissyslave.

Once burned,..Ok,that you moarn for him,I DON'T.
Like I said, those words are true, one death is tragedy,1 million is statistics.I thought that world has move on since those words, apparently,it is not like that.

I know much about religion,muslim,christian,etc,that is why I don't like it.This is 2005,not 1805.
He was just a old man who lived well and got almost 85 years old,not many in this world can live in near of 85.
If news just used a hour less on him,and other "tragical deaths",and more of people who need help to survive, that would be just great.
I am not talking about tsunami victics, but victims where cameras are NOT.

No one says his was an untimely death...
Everyone who mourns his passing, does so because they believed him to have been an honorable human being.
No one in this world will pass the test of being approved by all humans.
You're permitted not to feel anything, or even to dislike him, and we are permitted to respect him/mourn his passing.

Your outrage at all the other attrocities that go on in the world is fair and warranted... Do you participate in trying to help avert any of it? I'm just curious. M

I believe that the OP started this thread as a tribute of sorts and a means for people who admired the man to say their good-byes. While I completely respect the opinions of all and would defend their right to express them, I also think it would have been nice not to see such negative commentary on this thread. If you truly feel you have to voice an opposite opinion....maybe it would have just been nicer to start a different thread. Would you find it in good taste to walk into a funeral where people were mourning and make negative public commentary on the deceased? This is really no different.

That's YOUR opinion.

I see EVERY opinion on this thread as valueable...not just ONE that agrees with my values.

What one persons so-called "negative" opinion is another persons truth....remeber that.

It has nothing to do with political correctness, it has everything to do with respect. Claiming to be a member of a lifestyle that respect is such an integral part of, is this really such a foreign concept to you?

To go back to the original thread:
He was the only Pope that I ever knew and I believe that he was a great church leader and left a great position to be filled. I only hope that the one that come after him can continue to expand the church to new areas and help it to become respected once again.
I did not agree with everything that he said or did, but I respect him because of how he said and did those things. Being Catholic, I looked up to him as a spiritual leader and am confident that I will one day meet him personally in a better place.
Rest in Peace Holy Father

I am sorry if this post offends anyone, but I am serious about my faith and am not ashamed of my faith or of the sadness that I feel because of the Pope's death.

Dani, You tell Erin not to tell you how to feel while you are busy telling everyone else what to do?
No one says you shouldn't feel what you feel... It would be nice if you would extend the same courtesy to people who disagree with your position. M
