Greetings A/all, What are housing and rental prices like in your area? Are you better off renting or owning? Can you do a lease to own option? Or does the whole mess make you want to get rid of all your stuff and tour around the country in a RV?

My rent is £600 per month for a six bedroom house in a nice area. I guess this is around $1200. I'd be better of buying but dont have the savings for a deposit (i do have nice shoes and clothes though) and have a bad credit history. I'd love to just travel around - i get bored in one place for too long.

Most new houses in my area are going between $600-$900K, then there are some a bit further out in the county that are less. Rent last time I looked for a friend the cheapest we could find was $1800.00/mth and that was for a 2 bedroom house and it was in a bad section of town. Most newer homes in the nicer sections start at $2400/mth to rent. To my way of thinking you are always better off owning vs renting. However if you are the sort of person who really likes to move alot and travel, then it may not be such a good investment. When I retire, I am selling everything and buying some land up in the mountains and putting me a house right in the middle of it. I love the mountains and the peace and quiet. ~Lashra

A one bedroom, one bathroom apartment will range from $750-$1,200. A 3 bedroom condo, from $1,300-$2,000. A 3 bedroom, 2 bath house, $1,500 - $2,200. When it comes to buying a condo, that will set you back about $300,000. A house about $500,000. A manufactured home about $80,000.

Well around here average 1,000 sq ft apartment 2 bdr 2 br goes for about 900.00/mo....Purchased 30 year old condo..2000 sq ft..3 bdr..3 br 2 car garage..got it for 92,500....although appraised at 120,000.00..definitely pays to purchase than to rent..Tempting

my rent is $370 a month (the company has gone up to $400 a month for new renters, though). that includes everything but electricity and water. i live with 3 roommates, we have separate leases, and we share a common area. taken together, it's pretty much highway robbery, but it's normal for this area - even a bit low. one and two bedroom apartments are more in the $600-$1000 range here. i am not sure about housing prices.

Wow, some high prices. That's why I chose this area, there is tremendous value here. Why pay $400k up North for what I bought here for $84k and higher taxes, crummy weather, bad traffic, high crime, moonbats,and high utility bills?

I pay what is typical for the area I live in, which is actually a pretty big town. I pay $530 a month for a one bedroom apartment that is about 600 square feet. It's kinda small, but there is definately plenty of room for me and my stuff. For my $530 I have all utilities paid, plus they provide basic cable and internet and is furnished. To me, its a hell of a deal.

Popeye, you can't compare apples to oranges, your state compared to Calif is just that!!! I lived in North Carolina and the cost was similar to yours. Now I'm in the Philippines and my rent for a nice 2br is $84, in a nice area next to the beach, near the center of town..... but Apples to oranges for sure! George

We live on Balboa Island in Newport Beach CA. Rentals they average about $2000 for a one-bedroom and up from there. I never rented here so I'm not sure how high they go but I know it is high. Homes prices 1.8 million-7 million+ You are better off owning here. New apartment around: 600000$ and the rent is around 1500$ decent houses (old) can be around 900000$

i paid 111 thousand for a three bedroom town house in 2002, i just sold it last week for 238 thousand and am moving into a 3 bedroom single family house that rents for 1400 a month.....thats pretty normal for this area. my parents paid 26 grand for their house in 1965 and the one next door to them just sold for 699 thousand so they could tear it down and start over...crazy.

Oh, man, it's so cheap to live here. =) An average 2 bedroom apartment costs between $500 and $600 a month. In my city, a 3 bedroom ranch or cape cod is between $80,000 and $110,000. As far as property value goes, our whole metropolitan area varies wildly. You can get absurdly cheap, solid, good houses in Youngstown proper for about $30,000. but... some of the neighborhoods are pretty shady. Forget about Youngstown public schools, I'd rather homeschool. I wouldn't consider buying a home in the actual city of Youngstown, but the surrounding suburb areas seem safe enough.
