Status: offline 		we pay$1900 for a 3 bedroom/2 bath/dope kitchen single family house [only one on the block] newly redone. the area isnt too expensive yet i think we could buy it for i believe it was 498K - and a tiny place but private yard is tha shiiiiiizzzzzzzzzzz

Vendaval, I moved down here from New England, specifically New Hampshire.
I was born and brought up in the Boston, Mass area.
We use the term "Moonbat" to refer to the kind of people who espouse unpopular "causes", associate themselves with universities (wether they go there or not) are "politically correct", support "globalism", often live in their parents basements or garages, have "jobs" like "community activist", "neighborhood organizer" etc who for whatever reason choose to take up residence in places like Boston, Cambridge, or Brighton, Mass.
I guess Rush Limbaugh kind of stole that term "Moonbats" from the working people of Massachusetts. You know, "the kind of people who grew up in East Cambridge but didn't go to Harvard."
They have them in other large cities too and of course in Berkeley, Calif.
We call them "Moonbats" to differentiate them from, and so as not to insult people on the Left. I guess they'd be as close to communist as you can get without actually being communist.
They're the type of people who would support an illegal alien who was accused of raping a UM. They'd have protest signs calling the illegal alien a "victim".
If there's an unpopular "cause" they're the type of people who support it and I don't mean  Iraq or "global warming", that would be too "mainstream" for those people.
They throw blood on people wearing fur coats, belong to ELF and burn buildings down.
There is probably some type of mental illness syndrome associated with these people as they are (so) anti social.
We called them and their "causes" "Cambridge Stupid."
You can go to Harvard square and see them protesting on the sidewalks any day of the week.

Status: offline 		In Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.......they are building high rise apartments, like RE is going out of style.  Studio apartment...100K USD.......I bedroom....500K USD....it goes all the way to six million USD for a more spacious 3 bedroom apartment, but not that much more spacious. 3 bedroom house, one story...375K USD. A two story, house, in a gated community....3mill to 5mill or more, depending upon location.

Working class one bedroom apartment....rent...1250.00 USD per month, utilities not included, no garage. Depending upon location, some, few rents are 790 USD per month, no utilities, no garage, 1 bedroom.

Salaries....normal, average income per year....18K before taxes. Some earn about 24K before taxes. Few earn ...38 - 48K yearly before taxes.

Topless, naked strippers.....adverts state....Earn 1000 a night, Earn 5000 a night.  Truth.....The girl, must me top notch quality in appearance....are paid NO wages, they are independant contractors having their own business license....kick back to wardrobe mistress, 50.00 per night.....kickback to hosting establishment 48% of nights earnings.

Casino employees, dealers, etc, are usually paid minumum wage as allowed by law. A long time employee earns about 10 USD per hour, maybe 12 USD + gradtuities, of which must be pooled for the dealer team at end of nights shift. IRS established a basic gradtuity tax, which must be paid irregardless if you made that much in gradtuity.

Job security.....NIL  Job availabilty.....almost nil.

So, you want to come to Las Vegas Nevada.  WELCOME.

Status: offline 		There's a buttload of people moving to this area from up North.
Population in Mass fell by 1% last year and also in N.Y, N.J. Penn.
United Vanlines, Mayflower etc rate S.C. as an "inbound" state meaning people are moving "to" this state.
Massachusetts, N.Y., Penn., N.J., Mich., Calif., are "outbound" states meaning people are moving "out" of those states.
If you look at the prices in those states in Realtor.com you can see that the prices have gone way beyond "value."
They must have people working in Mc Donalds and 7/11's making $30-$50 per hour to support those asking prices.

Status: offline 		I love my small town, an hour away from large metro areas and still have the low prices and quiet atmosphere... we paid $28,000 for our house (fixer upper, 3000 sqare feet, 107 years old) and the house across the street just sold for $62,000. I have no idea what rent is around here though.

Status: offline 		Here in Iowa the prices vary wildly. It just depends how close you are to a high$ area. Here in Iowa City it sounds very similar to what Susan was describing. Occasionally you will see a listing for over a million but it's luxury all the way and usually a few acres of land.

Move further away and the prices drop. However, here you have to contend with a whole different breed of property pricing, farmland. Then you have farmland that is close to a growing area being purchased for new home building. It's rather insane and a few miles can make a huge difference.

Here in Iowa City you will be lucky to find any sort of apartment for under $500.00 a month. Drive 40 miles and you could rent two huge ones, or a really nice house for that.

We got lucky when we sold the house in Cedar Rapids and bought the farm. It was all about timing. I could not even find a house in the worst shape possible, perhaps even a building lot,  in Iowa City for what we paid for the farm 5 years ago.

We have an Uncle in Sioux City.  He bought a newer house with no land for 300,000.  Its a nice house but not that nice for around this area.
Although in our area we do have quite a few multi million dollar homes within a mile.  Who lives there?  I have no idea.

Status: offline 		Down here in my section of Florida, you pay 1250.00 per month for a brand new , never lived in 4 bedroom, living/dining/kitchen plus study and screend back porch on a 80x120 lot. Absolutely beautiful , tiled with all brand new SS appliances .

It makes much more sense to rent her than purchase because not only is their an insurance crisis, the property taxes have gotten rediculous. So you end up paying more per month for taxes and insurance than for your mortgage payment. You need double the mortgage amount per month to own.

There is also a huge glut of empty houses that have sat on the market for 1 year + now , since the bubble burst.

I think we are in for even greater price drops and now more people are moving out of Florida than to Florida.

Yeah, and a lot of those people are moving here to Myrtle Beach.
I have a friend and his wife who moved here from Orlando and love it.
They said it's too hot down there, too many hurricanes, too high housing prices, too high insurance rates, too high crime rates and too many people who can't speak english.
They bought a brandnew 4 br 3 1/2 bath 2400 sq ft house with a huge garage for $230k here that they told me would cost $500k down there.
I know that something  that BIG would cost $800k in the Boston, Mass area and probably $600k in southern New Hampshire.
And he told me that one year it was 90 degrees on Christmas Eve down in Orlando!
YUCK!

alot of people here like moving to the Carolinas because it is still the south but there are mountains there, I heard it even snows there!

Status: offline 		Right now, I do not pay rent because I live in my mom's guest house. However here are prices from what experience I have:

When I lived in town last year, I paid $525/month for a 700sq ft apartment (no utilities included.)

When my family lived in town several years ago we were paying $900 for a 1800sq ft, 3bedroom house (own, not rent).

The place we live in now is in the country and we've actually paid it all off (89,000) but if we were still making payments it would have been $850/month for a 3 bedroom, 2000sqft new model manufactured on 5 acres w/small horse barn. (We've added a lot to the property since then, but that's what it came with.)

I would guess in the 35,000-50,000 range. I make a hair under 40,000 and was comfortable paying for my 1 bedroom apt and late model car. Now I pay no rent and utilities and live like a king on that sum.
