Depends on the residence, but a 3 bedroom house here (in the Seattle market) sells for between $350,000.00 and $750,000.00, and rents for between $1,200.00 and $3,000.00 a month.

Are you better off renting or owning?

If you were going to stay in one place for 7 years or longer, you're almost always better off buying (with some minor geographic variation).

Can you do a lease to own option?

No matter where you are, you can always do a lease option....just have to find a willing seller.

Or does the whole mess make you want to get rid of all your stuff and tour around the country in a RV?

Nawwwww....then I'd have to buy all new paper plates.

Here in So Cal (just a bit north of San Diego proper the rent is outrageous. 1500-2000 for a 2 bd/2bath

Houses can run to 500K that's a starter 2 bedroom 2 bath. very few people can afford something like that starting out.

Manufactured homes run anywhere from 90-250K.

My friend bought a 600sq ft condo 5 years ago for 100k (yes that was 600sq ft people) he sold it last year for 500K. mind boggling.

we justed moved into a 3 bedroom 2 bath rancher, near Durham ,,112.000$ we sold a 2 bed 1with 1 and 1/2 bath for $135.000

Well, we have 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, large kitchen, garage, fenced yard. $685.00 a month, plus utilities and cable/phone/net. I'm not sure what the prevailing wages are here, it's a college town, but also a major trucking area. The house isn't new but it's comfortable and I imagine we could probably buy it for around $65,000 or so.

3 bed 2 bath home rents 750.00 1100.00 month. To purchase a starter home is 160k and up. Anything rural is twice that. To be totally honest....these days I wouldn't purchase a property unless I could go to the title company with a cashiers check or brief case full of hundred dollar bills for the whole price. After watching/listening to what's been happening lately, I have no desire to borrow any money.

oklahoma city, starter homes from the 70,000 in older parts of town undeveloped land about 6000-10,000 an acre developed lots 25,000 - 50 ,000 an acre average home home 1800 sqft 150,000

California and the price of its real estate are often times hard to figure out. Consider this : In many of the yuppie area's in Southern California, where the median household income might be 150k, the homes are very expensive, many many of them easily topping a million bucks. But then you head east into the desert, to say Rancho Mirage, and there's a handful of country clubs there where none of the members are worth less than 15 million, {and most being worth a hellva lot more than that} yet the homes there are cheaper than the homes where the yuppies live. lol

2 bedroom/2 bath apartment less than 1000 sq ft about 900 bucks to 1600 depending on location.

New homes around 500k-700k

I live in a half of a double (one side of a duplex) for $1200/month. The market value of this house is about $180k for 1550 square feet. The average house price is about $220.

Here you can do a rent to own. You can own property, or you can lease it.
Basically a new 3 bedroom 3 bath 1700 sq foot home will run you about $150,000.
It is really putting a hardship on those who own older homes and fix them up. It is very difficult to get your equity from your home when you sell.
The best thing to do here is stay put if you are in a safe neighborhood.

Was talking to a guy today who is friends with somebody that bought a house on the eastern side of the Inland Empire (where homes are relatively inexpensive) and commutes 5 days a week.

He leaves to go to work at 4am. Gets home after the commute around 9pm.

Has two kids.

I tried that for a while from south Orange County, but commuting 27 hours a week simply sucked dingo balls.

I hear ya, Sinergy. My sister commutes into SF from Mill Valley every day on the Golden Gate transit ; it's roughly twenty miles from where she works, yet it sometimes takes an hour-and-a-half.

I've got the best homies in the world down there, and the women are down ....but the traffic and bubble economy keep me in Oregon. ; }

I see houses and condos listed for a year now in the town where I used to live at $400-$800k
They might as well ask a million for them as no-one is buying at current prices.
When housing prices go so far beyond "value", you're foolish to buy.

Well I am not Sir Kinkster, but I am also an Oklahoma resident. I have to say there are jobs here depending on what you do. In the area I live in..NE OK, (closer to Tulsa) it seems the local gov'ts are working hard on attracting manufacturing plants etc. This is definitely a place not for small business. If it gives you any indication of employment, Phillips Petroleum is moving their offices back to this area from Texas and Wal-Mart just opened a Distribution Warehouse about 15 miles from me (no traffic to or from). My brother was considering moving from CA to this area a couple of years ago. He found a house with 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a full finished basement and a pool in the back yard for $170,000.00 it was a STEAL but his job stepped him up in CA, so he stayed.

I am originally a Cali Girl...but I love OK. I just find it difficult to convince others that it is a nice place. The lifestyle has proven slow to non-existant for me here.

Master Owns a 3200 sq ft home in DFW Texas for $229,000. You can rent a apartment here from 1 bedroom $675.00 up to 2 and 3 bedrooms around $1400.00 a month. The BDSM Scene is huge in Dallas, with NLA, MAsT, several social clubs and a 7,500 Sq Ft Dungeon.
