Can't Win or President Cheney? - 3/23/2007 4:07:25 PM

Status: offline 		I'm starting to think that either President Bush just doesn't know how to win ... or, Vice President Cheney is actually in charge in the White House.
 
Before the last midterm election, President Bush had his guest worker program killed by the hard right in his own party. Is was well know that Vice President Cheney opposed this legislation. The Democrats supported it, and right after the midterm, both President Bush and Speaker Pelosi mentioned it as a place where common ground could be found.
 
After the election, the President really needed a win. Where was this bill? He isn't even talking about it.
 
So ... does President Bush just not know how to win? Is Vice President Cheney really in charge? Is there another explanation?
 
I'm very curious to hear from the Republicans on this.

Status: offline 		This time the Dems and Repubs will kill it.
I called that new Congresswoman from New Hampshire's office last week and spoke to one of the staffers, "Helen."
Seems Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter is against it as well as Iraq.
Helen said they get more calls about Iraq and immigration enforcement than any other issues put together.
And, a lot of the new Democrats who were elected (Like Shea-Porter) were elected specifically because people thought the Repubs dropped the ball on those two issues.
Gee, not a good strategy by Bush; "Hey Cheny! Let's find an issue that The People are against and see if we can shove it down their throats!"

I don't think you can, caitlyn.

I've seen very, very little about the immigration issue in the libertarian / republican / conservative side of the house, other than strong desire to enforce the borders and immigration law.

My own take on the silence is that it's a "no win" issue for the administration, but could very well be a "winner' in the 2008 elections for the Repub side of the house.

There is no real upside for Bush to do anything.  There is a big upside for a Repub candidate in 08 to campaign on enforcing immigration laws against the Dems, though.

I suspect, then, that it's a party political consideration, and that's why nothing has happened.

Just look at his past, a rich kid who went to Yale on his parent's money, owned a baseball team that went bankrupt, an "Oil Man" who never found any oil.
I say let's just keep the "Lame" in "Lameduck."
Oh, and a "Texan" who was born in Conneticut.
Rich people are *different* than you and me.

Think about it girlie, the Dems are playing right into the Pubs hands. GW will only work on two things the remainder of his term. One, he will pardon all his pawns and jestors. Two, he will get this Iraq thing as right as he can. Unless of course the Iraian idiot makes war real easy for him, then well have even a bigger feast in 08. The Dems have the uphill stroke, they are being set up on their high horse only to have a shadow creatures ready to slap it on the ass and a set of hobbles wrenched close at its fore limbs. They were given this power to do something with, by the "people". Nancy will die as a worthy lamb. Cheney is great at one thing, strategic vision. Cheney doesn't run the White House, never did, neither does GW. Though Cheney is higher on the food chain then GW. Their soul focus the next two years is to help the Dems build issues that have nothing to do with what Americas voters were enraged about and then kick the foundations out from under their feet. Look at all the fuss over Gore's global warming crap. Look at the desperate attempt to control Bush in the public eye, with no possible way to achieve success. They will struggle with meaningless issue after meaningless issue, all the while the pubs are setting then up for the "look people, you gave them the power to do something and all they did is make noises and a mess, waste our time and money". This plan was put in place way before the mids. Way before. GW won't be doing anything in your eyes because he is busy clouding the view. It's two years of damage control, that's all. Let the Dems draw all the attention this pre primary phase. That's Dick's trick.

Remember girl, follow the money trail. Washington is a circus stage. I'll bet you miss me...Perhaps I need to swing by the Astro City and we should swap spit for awhile. I could whisper a conspiracy or two into your ear, and then bite it.

I am not sure this is necessarily true, xBullx.  Who pardons him?  Nothing in his entire life suggests he is the sort of person willing to dive on a hand grenade to save his foxhole mates.

There has been no real change in what, 5 years, in Iraq.  Im not sure the phrase "as right as he can" has any real meaning.

We dont have enough military to invade Iran.

Despite what some people seem to believe, Isreal will not help us.  They are trying to figure out how to survive the US packing up and going home.

I doubt he'll need anymore of a pardon then Nixon did. But, that's only if they can actually make something stick to him, they won't, try they might, they won't. It's all in the plan they do exactly what  their doing, GW and Dicks brain trust had all this thought out before the mids, money says they even baited Nancy to do the things she's doing. Don't always be sure the nameless lefts or the nameless rights are anything in one direction or another anyway. Do you have your popcorn, are you enjoying the eyecandy of a show? Distractions are the first rule of love and war. Never be seen as what you truely are, or are doing.

I have no desire to do battle with the Iranians, Though their effforts will be only moderately beeter than the Iraq efforts were. Trust me, the battle phase is the easy part and we have more than enough troops for that. Its this time world opinion must be better sided with us. It's the underbelly of the Rads that must be dealt with and indentified prior to conflict this time, spot them, their supplies and be ready to cut their cord. Isreal must never be part of the war. That would ignite the quiet money making Muslims. The moderates that enjoy their couch as much as we Americans do. No, the battle isn't the challange, its the aftermath, see Iraq, lessons learned.

Back in those days you had to fuckin "KNOW" someone to get into the National Guard!
All the working class guys I went to school with went into the Army, Navy or Marines.
In the next city over to where I lived the kids parents were doctors, lawyers, wealthy business people, THOSE kids went into the National Guard!
You just couldn't get into the N.G. unless your parents had "influence."
In those days the N.G. didn't go to Vietnam because we had something called the "Draft."
If they were short 100,000 guys they'd just Draft them!
Almost all my friends went into the military.

Ford had no part in Watergate.  Was not up on criminal chages, etc.

Monkeyboy steps down.  Cheney pardons him.  Cheney goes to prison.

Think in terms of who will grant the pardon, that is the important consideration.

Status: offline 		You see, Bush wants to shore up the Mexican American vote because the Hispanic vote in this country is a huge voting block and Karl Rove believed this was where the future of the Republican Party lies.. why do they think this? Hispanics are socially conservative although they are also strongly labor and union oriented too. So they are for worker's rights, but they are traditional family people. The key to turn them Republican is the family values card, and supporting immigrant issues. People often vote their economic interests more than their religious or social interests..

The problem is that many conservatives fear immigrants on a deep level. So the Republican party lost a lot of votes due to the immigration stance of the Bush Admin.

That is what I have heard on the topic anyways.
