One, it pleases Him and two...It pleases Him. Not to mention what it does for me.
Pain can be a release for some of us. As time goes on, the body adjusts and it takes more pain to reach that release. You build up a tolerance to it as with anything. Think of an addict, one hit might get them high the first time, but each time they go to get high it takes more drugs. Same thing with pain.
