I've recently read a couple threads where people have admitted to having odd habits.

For instance, personally..

Dishes have to be washed in a certain way or they're not clean (and I've been known to rewash them).

Laundry has to be folded in a certain way per item or its not folded right and I have to redo it.

I won't eat leftovers, unless its soup.

I don't like my food to mix on my plate and won't eat the parts that touch.

I'm sure there are other things, but I can't remember them right now.

Do you have any odd habits that you just can't help but do? How do you deal with these types of things in a D/s relationship? Dom/mes do you try to train these things out of your subs or work around them? subs how do you deal with the kooky things your Dom insists on?

Are we related?

Ok, yes, my clothes have to be folded a certain way, especially my towels.

I also will not eat food that has mixed in with other foods on my plate, and the only left over I will eat is chili.... it's so much better the next day.

And here is the worst one yet... I eat ice... constantly.... When I have a pepsi it has to be a full (large) glass of ice first, then pepsi... hubby says I like ice flavored pepsi. The bad part is, I have ice trays, 16 of them to be exact, (this is where you see the OCD kickin' in) 12 blue ones and 4 red ones... each has to filled to about 1/3 rd full, my subbie can stack them in the freezer either in 3 stacks of blue and 1 red, or each stack can have one red tray in it but it has to be in the same location in the stack for all. Yes, I will rearrange them if they are not right, yes hubby gets a kick out of putting them in there wrong just to mess with me. The ice bin has to be full at all times, I have been known to get the submissive up at 4:45 AM (that's when I get up) for the soul purpose of dumping and re-filling the trays if it is not.... a lesson that has yet to be forgotten btw.

The good news is.....I'm getting better, I don't count the stairs everytime I climb them anymore and I can switch channels or turn the tv off midway through a program now!

Hmmm, how does it effect the D/s relationship. Well, a previous submissive put it best I think... I am extremely particular about how my food is prepared and served and it took her a while to be able to do it the way I like, but when she finally could it was rewarding to know that not just anyone could come in here and make me a peanutbutter and jelly sandwich to my liking, she knew she was important then, that she had accomplished a lot, not just in my eyes, but hers as well. Yes it's harder to serve someone with odd propensities or mild psychosis (for me it's Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) but in the end I think the rewards are more obvious. No matter who is here, or who offers to do this or that for me, my submissive knows that he or she will be the one doing it because they are the ones that know best how to please me. And for me, to have them care enough to do things the way I "need" them to be done is an amazing reward.

Hmmm... I don't have too many quirks.

I'm a picky eater, but I don't care if has touched my other food or not, its all gonna end up the same place anyway.

I always drink my tea hot, with lemon

I don't like AC

My clothes in my closet are organized into work, casual, dress casual and formal... always from light to dark arranged left to right. I can almost pick out a shirt and pants without looking.

My cassette, CD and DVD collections are in alphabetical order by artist (title for DVD), and in chronological order of release where by the same artist.

The books in my library are organized by topic, and usually in some specific order by topic... I once considered adopting the Dewey decimal system to keep track of things.

I hate to dust

I'll only try to curb or "train out" a quirk in a slave if it is something that either interferes with the relationship or just flat out annoys me. For example, suppose she had a habit of never putting cassettes back in the right case... now that just isn't going to work for long with me.

I have a few, although it seems like a lot to some.

My food cannot touch, ever. If it does I can't eat it. I won't eat ketchup on french fries or gravy on potatoes.
I also eat my food clockwise, eating everything in one section before moving to the next.

I won't drink anything with ice in it, but I eat ice plain.

I have several routines and nothing can inturrupt them or I have to start over. I have one for before I go to bed, for when I wake up, for showering, for how I check my email, before I drive anywhere, and many others that I am unaware of I'm sure.

I talk to objects and feel that they have feelings. I am very careful not to leave anything out for fear that their feelings will be hurt.

There are many more I'm sure, if I think of any I will post them.

I enjoy my drinking water at room temperature, my tea has to be iced with lemon, laundry does have a right way to be folded, there is a method to stacking the dishes and everything is supposed to be alphabetized....the garden and lawn have to be patterned, LOL...okay, I am gonna stop here....this is too funny to think about and look at now.

Mild Psychosis? Might be in some people's opinion, but in mine it is just a way of keeping things in order. When life or people get me frustrated or emotional...things definitely get the healthy organized psychosis me going.

Ahh, healthy outlets are a good thing.

Nest wishes....

About 80% of the world is neurotic in some way, especially submissives/slaves. We LOVE order, perfection, ritual, having things "just so." Every dom I know has some *thing* that has to be done which defies all logic and reason, all manner of rationality, but it's just what they want and you put your head down, do it, and get on with your day.

It can be hard for subs to swallow their own habits and change them, but that is what training is about. It's good if you can morph and adapt into a new system well, but kicking and screaming works in the end too.

I think as long as you are AWARE of your irrational quirks, then you're doing ok and able to function well in the world.

And be grateful that you aren't part of the 20% of the world that really IS psychotic.

Some of these things are learned behaviors. The other behaviors are probably caused by a degree of OCD. I'm of the opinion that everyone has at least one... um... quirk.

I know I've got dozens and dozens. I'm a very picky eater. I bathe a particular way, washing things in a particular order. My friends and family just shrug it off.

What a great thread! My own 'quirks' (to name a few):

- Laundry folded and organized/piled according to my preferences in drawers

- Dishes stacked neatly, glasses aligned perfectly

- All cans/boxes and other food items have to face English side facing me

- Have to make my bed before I leave for work or I feel 'frazzled'

- Shiny faucets (I polish them up every day, also includes the toaster! LOL)

Here's an interesting one that applies only when I'm at the office

Three hole punch tools? If one of the 'punched paper circles' finds it's way out of the tray and onto my desk, floor or anywhere else in the office? I can't function until I get rid of it! I will spot one on the floor 30 feet away and it will drive me crazy! I have to pick it up! *Growls*

As to how it affects me with regards to the lifestyle? LOL! I once had a Dom make me turn all my sweaters in the opposite direction AND add a tank top to the drawer until I accomplished a goal! (My sweater drawer is only to have three stacks of sweaters and I have a separate drawer for tank tops) It drove me CRAZY!

I've also joked that a good (awful) punishment would be being forced to tear the tray off the bottom of a three hole punch and fling the little paper circles around the room and have to pick them all up! Grrrr! I'd rather be whipped!

You know, there are meds for this

Seriously I think a lot of ppl in this lifestyle have certain tendencies. Seems the laundry folding "quirk" is high on everyones list. I am no exception, towels must be folded one way only, clothing must be in it's proper order and place or it is a disaster to my eyes. I also have a specific way to wash dishes and any water used to clean with must be scalding to make the item (dishes, clothing, body, floors...etc.) truly clean. I count when I cut with scissors, I have no idea why I have to do this but I do, and if someone drinks off my glass, it's no longer available to me...eeeeewww.
I don't think I have any "quirks" that have become a problem with Masters as of yet. I am a picky eater but most do not seem to notice. I have a problem with anything covering my mouth and nose at the same time, but again hasn't been an issue thus far. I think that is you have a strong trust between you and a Dom, any "quirk" can be worked on and overcome, if it truly is bothersome. JMO.

*laughs so hard* I'm glad to hear I'm normal.. well at least for around these parts anyway And I noticed I forgot a few things.

I forgot that I have to organize books by subject (I have a HUGE book collection). I'm also very particular about who gets to touch my books and how and when and why..

I organize my CDs alphabetically as well as my old VHS tapes and DVDs. If they are out of order, or left out of their cases, I will have a fit.

I also cannot handle loose change laying around the house. It drives me bonkers and I HAVE to pick it up and put it in the change jar.

My sinks cannot have dirty dishes in them (esp if they have water collecting in them). I can tolerate dirty dishes all over the counter, but put one in the sink and it icks me out.

I can in some cases share a spoon or fork with people but if any .. i mean ANY bit of food is left on the fook when handed to me. I'll lose my appetite and won't be able to eat. Esp. ice cream. (which reminds me I cannot handle popcicle sticks in my mouth, makes me gag)

I can't bite into something that someone else ate.. like where their saliva would still be on it. Grosses me out.

My socks have to be folded and placed in my sock drawer separated by color and type of sock. My clothes have to be openly visible other than socks and underwear. I won't put sweaters or t-shirts in drawers, but they are organized by color and style on shelves in my closet. Dress shoes are kept in their original boxes, and other shoes are laid out organized underneath my hanging clothes (which are also organized by casual/dressy, color, and size).

I should keep a copy of this, might come in handy someday.

Hhhhhhhhmmmmmm.........
Dishes, stacked in certain order always back where they belong - but plates of one colour go next to bowls of diffrenct colour and vice versa
glasses alinged in certain order always back according to variety and in that order...
silverware small spoons next to small forks then large spoon next to large forks
serving utensels in counter top jar facing up so you can see wooden spoon whisk etc etc
knives on magnet points facing up (bad feng shu yes but that is how I like them)
counters CLEAN and uncluttered always...cleaned with scalding hot water
fridge everything arranged neatly ...I will eat left overs sometimes, like lassagna...always better the next day......food touching does not bother me...most of the time
Plants, if you don't talk to them when they get a drink they are insulted.....
Towels, clothes yes I agree folded in a certain way always....
here is the REAL kicker....TURN SIGNALS...unlike most people in California, ALWAYS used..
I am sure there are more but I do not have my sub/slave scrub the floor everyday....
This is not that hard to bestow in others....but did take some time with a sub whose kitchen was complete chaos in the begining...... sputnik....

It was pointed out to me at lunch today that I also eat burgers in an odd way. I take them apart, eating the bun first. I pull out the soft part and eat that and then I eat the crust, bottom bun first, top bun second. Then I eat the meat with a fork, plain, no ketchup or anything.

I am Very greatful that most of my little oddities don't bother Master to the point he might want to change them.
Whenever I eat a square sandwich I HAVE to eat it a certain way, heaven forbid I'm doing it around someone who hasn't seen me do it before. Master will make sure to point it out. I start at one corner and bite it off, then I turn it counter clockwise and bite off the opposite corner. Then on to the next corner (Always counter clockwise) and it's opposite corner until I have a plus sign, then I eat the arms off like I did the corners, one and then the opposite. Once I have a "circle" and trim it up so it's more like a circle. Then I take a bite, turn the circle to take a bite across from it and start over. Master thinks it's FUNNY!
Laundry is easy for me. I just pile up all the towels and pants (I'm okay with him folding them) I fold all the shirts my way.
I'm also visually picky. (You wouldn't know from my clothing) but as far as our play goes there are certain things that drive me nuts. Ball gags. I HATE the way they look. Screws up the way someones face looks. Don't ever want to wear one, I wouldn't be able to think of anything else. I know on way he'll buy one and I won't have a choice but uck! I don't like hoods, I don't like the way they look. Master has worked around that, he said he will make me a very special (Attractive) hood, so we'll see.
I believe everyone has little things they have to do. I have a friend who always buys the second item on a shielf, she'll never buy the first.
It makes life interesting.

*laughs* oh briiliant!! Alrighty, here goes!!

Food - it has to be arranged on the plate a certain way, and then eaten a certain awy. this applies to ALL food - sweets as well. Coloured sweets have to be eaten in order of rainbow colour and counted, so that I know how may of each colour were in the bag. I save the last of each colour and put it aside so that at the end I have one of each, which are then eaten in the reverse order of how they were set aside.

Books - I have a problem here, because Minx likes them arranged in alphabetical by author, Mynx likes them arranged into non-fiction and fiction, and Minxie likes them in the relevant Feng shui areas of the house. So... somehow we all compromise among ourselves *grins* Though I have been known to spend hours rearranging my bookshelves, depending on which personality is dominant today.

Clothes - my wardrobe is divided into two, formal and informal wear. Each side, the clothes are hung up in order of the rainbow. Clothes that are folded and put away into drawers are put in the "right" drawers, sweaters seperate to trousers, etc. On Mondys I have to wear something white, on Tuesdays red, Wednesdays blue, Thursdays purple, Fridays pink, Saturday black, and Sunday's brown.

When I sign my (real life) name, I erase/ Tippex the "S" until it looks perfect. It has to be a perfectly curved "S", or I don't like my signature, and get depressed.

Plates, cups, etc get washed up the second I'm done using them... or another person is. They do not sit around on the side making my kitchen look grubby. My sugar jar has a teaspoon in it especially for the sugar - I hate finding lumps of tea soaked sugar in the jar from people stirring their tea, and then splodging a bit of sugar in. Likewise, the butter knife stays the butter knife; a seperate one must be used for jam, marmite, marmalade, chocolate spread...

Shoes are arranged in pairs, type, and colour... though this has gotten harder now cuz my kittens keep knocking them off the shelves *grumbles*

Nail varnishes also have to be arranged in rainbow order... And size of bottle. That applies to all bottles of anything - it all goes in order of size.

Gods, I have too many! I do have OCD.... It used to stress me out, panicking if I was normal or not, so seeing all you guys write this on here has been great! These days I am able to just laugh at it - I mean jeez, look at this, a set of rules to live my life by! *laughs* A good topic, lil1v!!

Giggling amongst herselves..

Cassettes!

My man let me put that stuff on dvd or CD for you.

This thread is great. look at how everyone jumps in and describes their 'idios'

A very wise girl said my problem is " I want it all " I am very much attached to that diagnosis now.

Cope? Well, my girl is pretty quirky and definitely obsessive/compulsive with multiple personalities. I have my own quirks, so I don't judge her....that's one thing. Her obsessive compulsive traits are a part of who she is and, as far as I can tell, not harmful, so I don't feel any correction is needed. I just do my best to give her order in her life and help in any way I can when she needs it.

As for the multiple personalities? I have started a file on each one so I can better recognize them (kidding here, folks....kinda). Seriously, I do try to notice what is going on with her...I am getting better at that, but still learning. None of her moods/psyches is insufferable; they are just different aspects of who she is. I don't cater to her or patronize her, but I do make adjustments in what I say and do....as appropriate. As I said, I am still learning. We both are. On a less serious note, it's like I have a harem of 12 wonderful girls, all in one extremely beautiful body.

Giving her stability and letting her feel she can count on that is what I strive for. Probably not expressing this very well, but I hope some of it makes sense.

*laughs so hard* OH this is BAD. The more other people write the more I realize I have. I SOOOOO do both of those. You don't even want to see me if I see a crumb or any thing foriegn in the butter, jam, peanut butter, sugar, etc.

Oh.. and I won't eat soggy bread, cereal, crackers.. so no Strawberry Shortcake, no crackers in the soup, and cereal was always small portions eaten quickly out of milk so it wouldnt get soggy. I will however eat bread pudding but only if it has more of a solid pudding consistancy.

Quirks, hmm never thought of them like that, but I have realized I must have some. I have Masters lab coats all hung together, his pants all together, his shirts by type, polo, or dress shirt, and sat and folded all his socks after it drove me nuts to see them unpaired and thrown in his drawer, my tops are hung according to use, dress or casual, skirts hung on hangers made for them not flung over the cross bar, my underwear is sorted panies in one area socks in another and bras another, I see my fussiness in my cooking things have a place and when done using them they go right back there, and if the dish doesn't turn out am not a happy camper, I never thought of it as a quirk but guess they are in this lite.

This is too fun.

I can't have my food touching.

I never eat crust. This includes pie crust, and when I eat rolls or cornbread I only eat the inside. I even pull the edges off hamburger buns.

When I go to bed, the sheets and blankets have to be pulled tight, no wrinkles and even. Fangs thinks this is hilarious, but maybe just a tad annoying when he really just wants to lay down and I have to fix it first.

When on the phone, I never hang up first.

That's all I can think of for now, but I'm sure there are more.
