Well there has been an 'invisible' draft for some time now. Stop Orders and recall of service persons irrespective of age who have not had a full 8 years in service [the fine print]... a draft perhaps although such would follow same course as with Vietnam [that was not a 'war' either], or perhaps it may be that our chimpo in chief has no clue... once we are spread even thinner... well, we have few friends internationally nemore [odd, that] should some bully commence to beating upon us... Taken across society as a whole I dont think it is true to say that the Brits. are gutless. What is true is that we have troops spread all over the place. Germany Ireland,Iraq Afghanistan and we simply dont have the capacity to do a great deal when a situation like this arises. Clearly I dont KNOW what our troop capability is but I have read quotes by "top" soldiers saying we are doing too much with too little. We also now have the problem of a large Muslim sector resident in the UK who's sympathies, to put it mildly, are divided. T Blair is coming to the end of his time so is it possible that "things" could go either way. ie a last throw of the dice and more military action. I just dont know.

I remember back during the Kosovo conflict. The UN designated a number of Dutch troops to watch over some muslim refugees in a designated safe zone. The Serbs violated the zone and slaughtered the muslims. What did the Dutch do? They watched...too terrified that firing a shot might kill someone or start a war. In the end, the Dutch government eventually resigned over the incident. But it shows you how Europe has become so pacifist that they even lack the ability to act to save themselves. And people wonder how Hitler took over that continent so easily.... its the direction this country is headed
