I have seen reference to gas masks as a fetish on this site, and have seen a lovely lady wearing one on her profile picture, but I would be interested in someone giving me a clue into what they are used for, and how these are used. Thanks, Ranch

I haven't actually been involved with one myself, but i've always thought they were mostly used for breath play and aroma play...or simply as a face covering for people with a rubber fetish.

They're a fucking good gag substitute.

Masks are superior to gag's in that

+ They leave the mouth and nose free.
+ (Anything involving sensory deprivation and suspension risks motion sickness). Vomit is easier to detect plus less of a choking hazard in a mask, than a mouth gag.
+ Anything subbie says, screams or happily gurgles can still be understandable
+ The longer then hose, the less the neighbours hear.
+ Duct tape over the glass can block vision without removing eyebrows later
+ Subbie can smoke a cigarettes after each orgasm, without anything being rearranged
+ Subbie can drink through a straw, with the hose removed.
+ BJ's
+If Subbie wants to smell your pheromones, just stick the breathing hose next to your sweat or semen and let nature push her buttons

One idea I'm flirting with, which I have not seen done, is putting the oneway mirrored film that they put on motorcycle helmets, on the inside of a mask, so Dom can see inside and see the subbies eyes, but all subbie see's is her eyes magnified reflection.
Actually there's a couple of ideas that I'm flirting with, but some need more contemplation on their risks first before publishing.

As a switch, I've been on both sides of a mask, and they are great for breath play. The breath control doesn't even have to be that dramatic ... just an ocasional hand over the hose during other types of play, can really emphasize who is in control, and it's a different feeling than other types of breath play. Just the feeling of having it slipped on and adjusted is a big rush to most, and the field of vision from inside is a unique sensation as well. I've had a Mistress blow smoke up the tube, or actually do rebreathing by blowing her own breath up the tube ... both were a real turn on. Any type of aroma play is heightened when using a mask. Of couse there usually is a slight smell of rubber present too, which adds a bit to the mix. Since they usually cover most of the face, they also can have a sort of depersonalizing effect, which plays on the minds of both participants.

As someone who wears an industrial respirator regularly I can tell you you become acutely aware of breathing when you wear one unless you are very focused on the work at hand. The sound of your breathing as well as the effort required to breath being considerably more, can easily be perverted towards breathplay or sensory deprivation.

An interesting idea, but I don't think that would work. Unless there was a light source on the inside of the mask to reflect light off the foil and back to the victim's eyes, the victim would be able to see through the lens with no difficulty. It's like looking through a one-way mirror. Turn on the lights in the "hidden" viewing room and the lights off in the viewed space and you can see right through the mirror.
