cyberdude611 -> Anyone believe in the supernatural? (4/2/2007 10:25:33 AM)

Not just ghosts, but also things like psychic abilities, curses, and stuff like that?

Has anyone actually seen a ghost?

juliaoceania -> RE: Anyone believe in the supernatural? (4/2/2007 11:03:51 AM)

Yes, I believe in the supernatural

No, I have never seen a ghost... well not exactly anyways

mnottertail -> RE: Anyone believe in the supernatural? (4/2/2007 11:04:00 AM)

Widdy; I can call the ghosts, but they don't come when I call 'em.

SusanofO -> RE: Anyone believe in the supernatural? (4/2/2007 11:25:01 AM)

I believe in all of that stuff; ghosts, ESP, aliens and UFO's, etc. I've never seen a ghost, but I have had some "weird experiences" after a relative has passed on, which I believe was them trying to "make a connection" with me.

Right after my mom died, four years ago, I used to have these vivid dreams about her at night. They seemed so real. I think she was maybe trying to say "Hi, I'm okay" or something like that, to me.

A few years after my grandmother (my mom's mother) died, one Saturday I was in my bathroom getting ready for the day, and I smelled the overwhelming smell of my grandmother's perfume (which had a very distinctive, memorable scent) for about 20 minutes. It was so over-powering, I coud not attribute it to chance, or my imagination. Then it just vanished. I was alone in the house at the time. I do believe she was just saying "hello" to me.

The morning my mother died, at 5am (the time she passed away), my sister said she smelled the overwhelming scent of my mom's meatloaf in her house. My mom's meatloaf also had a distinctive scent. And she said it was unmistakable, and overwhelming. No way it could be attributed to imagination. She said after about a half hour, the scent just vanished. I think that was my mom telling my sister she was passing on.

Stuff like that.

I can curse like a Sailor!
I try to have psychic abilities but I still haven't hit the lottery yet.

sub4hire -> RE: Anyone believe in the supernatural? (4/2/2007 1:00:15 PM)

I've seen a ghost, unless of course it was a figment of my imagination.
I do believe the dead communicate with us, unless of course it is a figment of my imagaination.

I've had psychic abilities in the past, unless of course it was coincidence.

No I don't believe in ghosts and yes, paradoxically, I've seen one and no, I don't believe in the supernatural. From what I've read and I admit to not being any kind of expert, I think it is the way the brain functions that fools us into perceiving the supernatural when our brain can't work out what we are sensing. As Dawkins points out, you may mistake a shadow for a burglar but you won't mistake a burglar for a shadow because the human brain is designed to give objects intent as a way of responding quickly to a dangeous situation. If our brains took the time to fully judge a situation, in many cases we would be dead because we wouldn't be able to respoind fast enough to a situation that requires an immediate reaction.

EDIT. On another note, a couple of years ago I had a major head trauma and I saw a whole load of things I knew were not real but they appeared to be real at the time. That wasn't when I saw the ghost, that was many years ago and it was a ghost that was regularly seen. Whatever it was, I don't believe it was really a ghost. When you're dead, your dead. If the dead really wanted to communicate with the living, why don't they knock on your door and say 'Hi, I'm your great uncle Frank!'

I think that there is enough evidence to make it almost impossible not to believe.
The problem is whenever some incident is proved to have been faked it leaves all the rest in doubt.
I have had three strange experiences that have been recorded by others.
1 I thought I was drowning and my life flashed before me.
2 I have had an out of body experience.
3 I once knew for certain I had won a raffle before the ticket was chosen.
I really enjoyed them all.

Sanity -> RE: Anyone believe in the supernatural? (4/2/2007 2:30:54 PM)

I firmly believe in the "supernatural" which to me means things that haven't been fully explained, like death and the afterlife and so on. Right after my Dad died I saw him for a very brief moment, and I felt his presence so strongly that I no longer have any fear of passing on. I've seen other things too that others witnessed with me that defy rational explanation... and I am of the belief that reality is FAR stranger than fiction. There is no need for me to ever do drugs for that reason, if I want to take a trip all I have to do is dive into physics or history or philosophy.

I have a thread here somewhere called 'idiocy when dealing with the occult' filled with alot of stuff:

bludemonn -> RE: Anyone believe in the supernatural? (4/2/2007 2:37:08 PM)

although my thread is more to do with people who piss around with the Paranormal and end up in the shit!

StellaByStarlite -> RE: Anyone believe in the supernatural? (4/2/2007 2:39:17 PM)

Hello. =)

I've had a few unexplained things happened to me, but I wouldn't attach a supernatural label to them. Unexplained is just unexplained.

I've fiddled with Ouija boards, cast spells, held seances, and explored a whole bunch of the occult before So far, I've never had any experience that convinced me beyond a shadow of a doubt that ghosts and such exist.

I do think that people WANT to believe in the supernatural, for whatever reason, though.

Yes

Has anyone actually seen a ghost?
I am more likely to hear and sense ghosts.
But I have seen the astral projection of another person.

None of the above prove there is anything supernatural in the universe and if their is, why is it always something so ethereal and vague?

Most people that believe appear to believe in some god or supernatural force that created the universe but they never seem to be able to explain why this god, this power, created what we call natural forces and then decides to break the natural laws they created to interven in a creation of their own making? It don't make sense, in fact, the more I think about it, the more absurd the suggestion of the supernatural exisiting is!

SunNMoon -> RE: Anyone believe in the supernatural? (4/2/2007 3:29:08 PM)

yes, I saw a ghost one time. I alo hear on often, it's the only thing that could make the sound.

meatcleaver -> RE: Anyone believe in the supernatural? (4/2/2007 3:40:55 PM)

It seems to me people believe god's, ghosts, ghouls and anything else supernatural because they want every last thing explained which is probably going to be forever beyond our capabilities and they don't like to think their life is subject to chaotic chance. Unfortunately people who are killed in earthquakes, tsunamis and road accidents are victims of chaotic chance. It's the human condition that we are aware of so much yet know so little. I'd rather live being aware of my ignorance rather than believe in nonsense.
