Smell can be caused by diet, environment and bathing habits and these things then get imbedded into a culture. So to me American Caucasians do not really smell one way or the other but a lot of that has to do with living in relatively order free environments, obsessive self cleaning (not that is not a good thing), and a somewhat random diet.

We do not come out of the womb smelling different but our lives and what we are use to and like just is different from how we live and get use to.

Growing up as a minority you have to learn the difference between stereotyping, racism and ignorance of cultural differences as you experience it on an almost daily basis. I will be honest I kind of get a kick out of these threads as it is always the Caucasians that seem to get bent out of shape.

I agree with Devilslilsister that I am more interested in cultural differences and skin color is at best secondary. I will add, what is the deal with Caucasians and tanning?

LOL

I am a superwhite scandinavian.   I used to be in a position where I was in contact with people who were from scandinavia just off the boat.............they were always quite standoffish
when queried why, they said you stink.  Well, there isn't much garlic in that cultures diet----------so-------
Then they would go back home for a visit after 3 months or so------and there, they were told ---- you stink.

This is going to sound stupid, probably - and I truly dont want it to come across as anything but curiosity, but hey;

1) do black guys have body hair? I'm thinking yes, but maybe not as noticeable?
2) is a circumcised penis the same colour as the foreskin? I'm thinking yes, but?
3) are the bits between the toes the same colour as the rest of the skin? I'm thinking yes, but?

And if anyone wants to know anything about me as a blonde(ish) blue eyed Germanic type along the same lines, then please ask away.

E

1. whether or not a black person has body hair depends very much on their genetics. most of us in the west are so racially mixed that we have as much body hair as a caucasian person. however the people i know (and men in particular) from west africa or the west indies who are not racially "diluted" so to speak tend to not have any body hair. one older african woman i knew remarked with shock and disgust at how hairy us black americans tend to be.

2. penis/foreskin color varies from person to person. some guys' cocks will be the same color from head to base, some will have a rosy pink head and brown shaft, some will be darker brown at the head and light brown at the shaft, etc...the combinations are endless.

3. i'm not sure what you mean about the bits between the toes?? the palms of your hands, bottoms of your feet, skin between the toes, etc., does not have melanin so will be pale.

Ok, i was just educated on the difference of Race and culture.

IMO - i think race is abit boring.

Culture is much more interesting.

Race is just skin color??  Well GAH - how BORING.  i mean really, how can you have tons of uniqueness with that?

Lets talk culture instead.  Much much more interesting

If you want to talk about culture, start your own thread.  The OP is asking about race, so let's stick to the topic.

daddysprop247 -> RE: Let's talk about Race (4/3/2007 11:58:03 AM)

well i have a question, primarily geared toward caucasian men i guess. what is it with white culture's obsession with breasts, particularly large breasts? why are larger breasts generally seen as more attractive or desireable than smaller ones?

The same thing that sells BILLIONS in cosmetics and cosmetic procedures to Americans of all races.  Marketing towards a society that is consumed with the mindless brainwashing that looking anything other than "natural" is "better".

Here are some of he questions and statements made...

1) We have a Korean minister in town maybe you know him?

2) Why is Lee  the last names of all Koreans?

3) Our daughter is going to Korea on a foreign exchange program..."Could you teach her to speak Korean?"...My friend, "I don't speak Korean."  ...Milwaukeans..."Well how about just a few words then?"

4) Do you feel uncomfortable that we are all wearing our shoes inside?

5) Why don't you believe in Jesus?

She is not planning on going back to  Milwaukee any time soon....And it made her hate her husband all the more....lol

Okay - seriously now...

It has been a continuing education for me concerning race and racial stereotyping. Borrowing from that bastion of PC - "South Park" I'll agree with Stan's assessment that no matter how I try I can not appreciate or relate to what occurs in the daily life of anyone whose skin tone subjects them to assumptions, either positive or negative.

My first ventures outside of metropolitan NYC opened my eyes to the reality that many if not most people assign traits and assume behavior characteristics not only based upon skin tone, but nationality. Disqualifying myself for speaking to how it feels to be any other race, I can speak first hand regarding nationality.

Being 100% Italian/Sicilian and looking like a Soprano's regular brings with it some stereotypes. When I lived in St. Louis, my neighbor just was certain I was "connected". Here in LA, I've sensed that people see me as the Steve Martin character from "My Blue Heaven". Being the sarcastic and opportunistic person that I am, I let them assume all they want and build it up. I'll revert to the most basic "Soprano-speak", wear my gold chain, and 'wife-beater' tee shirt; and give my occupation as "financing & COLLECTING".

Of course this is all light hearted banter, but similar to any other racial or national prejudice there is a cost I've paid that I have no way of assessing. Who knows what business I didn't get through the years because of the unspoken belief that I was a member of the "Mothers And Fathers Italian Association"?

That's the problem with race and PC correction attempted by the government. You can't regulate what other people are thinking. You can't know the hearts and minds of people. As a result the very programs implemented to "correct" the sins of our fathers and grandfathers become issues perpetuating the very stereotypes they were meant to eliminate.

One quick example of this. It doesn't offer any solution but it does provide perspective, especially if you consider it occurred 25 years ago. Back in my junior executive years at a major national banking institution, I promoted a person to replace me in a mid-management position who happened to be black. He got the job because he was the most qualified and he happened to be black. Coming back from a field training trip we had an opportunity to chat for the 3 hour car trip. He asked me why I promoted him. We weren't friends, we didn't go the the same college. He had a hard time with my first answer - he was the most qualified, so I reverted to my nature and told him I promoted him because the company was having a EEO "contest" and making him a corporate officer put me in first place. Although he was upset, he believed that answer!

For the balance of the trip we talked and I came closest to understanding how difficult it was/is for a black person or any person subject to prejudice. He told me that no matter what he brought to the table regarding experience and ability, he knew that a percentage of people that he dealt would always believe he got the job because of an EEO program. He spoke more against EEO/ECOA and all the other race based quota systems and PC programs; then I had ever heard. He hating having to address those assumptions. We became great friends that day. The three hour car ride was an life lesson that lasted long beyond many I was subject to in college.

quote:

We were at the Folsom Street Fair last year and a fascinated Asian man with a camera approached us.  He asked permission to photograph and then asked Master...."Please excuse if this is rude question, but how do you get her nipples to be pink like that?"
btw - beth doesn't do this story justice. The man had a telephoto lens set on "macro-zoom" and focused on one nipple at a time for at least 50 pictures. He was incredible and I hope he is enjoying his collection. I think I answered his question by saying that I kept beth in a box similar to how veal is raised. But he was so focused he just kept drooling and taking pictures and I doubt he heard the answer.

I never knew of "red-head prejudice" until I met beth. Just goes to show - we are all subject to thoughts and assumptions that we'll never know.

Well, if you observe animals, their breasts are only functional.  Womens breasts are way bigger (even the smallest ones) than they need to be.  Men are visually stimulated (or as women say, impared) and wtf?  why show cleavage at all then--look at most of the pictures out here, and face is cut off and you are looking at the guy zone-----LOL.........But as we discussed, I am a BlackTail guy, so breastages are secundo. But nevertheless, useful.

but if that is the case then why isn't this having a significant effect on african-americans? most black men i know don't really care about breast size (the nice round bottom is the primary concern), and of those who do, fake breasts are not seen as desireable at all.

Hey, Milwaukee is not that bad compared to where I have lived which is also mostly in the Midwest. There is ignorance everywhere but yeah but generally too many think Asian culture is one culture and not many just like everyone else’s.

I guess I understand the it is a sign of wealth or a pre-conceived beauty notion for tanning and many of the other things mentioned but as a woman and in the medical field all I see is skin cancer, wrinkles and wasted time and money.

The size of the breast thing has always fascinated me. Certainly I have seen over time people of both sexes fascinated over seeing something different then they normally are use to but breasts seem to get even a bigger reaction.

Most white men this slave has ever known don't really care about breast size, either---it's the WOMEN that obsess over looking anything but natural, and not because they think that is what men want...it's purely narcissitic.

I tend to agree with this, I don't know many guys that are obsessed with large breasts either. We (speaking for the guys I know), care about the shape of the tit, first and foremost. Honestly a A is almost as good as a B(preferred) is as good as a C is as good as D as long as the equivalent in general form. It's similiar I guess to men obsessing about thier dicks though, when in reality around 80 percent of men all have generally the same package dangling between their legs plus minus a half an inch. It makes the tit thing look down right rational.

Everyone hates redheads....You know the saying..."Beaten like a redheaded stepchild."  They are truly the scourge of the planet...Barely human....Trying to act like they are normal with their pale freckled skin.....God they  are so fucking creepy!!! They are like some race of underground dwellers banished from their caves and forced to live amongst the normal people....Always hiding from the sun and living on carion....God how I loathe the red head.

ok, i'm going to go off on a rant on this.  Because i am slightly envious.  Here, i have to sit out in the sun and tan and tan and tan, sunburn, heal and tan some more.. all the while hoping i dont catch skin cancer.. working HARD on that damn tan so i can be other then pasty white.......  And my daughter...... the punk she is.... will never ever ever have to do it.  She walks in the sun and BOOM - beautiful tan.  No skin cancer, no sun related wrinkles, no hours of sunburn pain, no hours of sitting around bored chitless trying to tan.

tanning is bad for you, regardless of how dark your natural skin is.  Your daughter's tan is still the result of sun damage- our bodies produce more pigmentation to protect ourselves from future damage from the sun.
I like my snow-white skin.  I think of it as a nice, blank canvas for a Dom to mark up.  I also love the way a black collar looks against it.

Edited to add some more about tanning:
There was a time when white, white skin (like mine, yay) was considered a sign of wealth, because it meant you didn't have to work in the sun.  Women would rub all kinds of creams all over themselves and carry parasols and stuff to avoid getting darker.  Then the Industrial Revolution happened, and instead of most labor happening outside, it started happening inside.  Being able to spend enough time in the sun to tan became a sign of wealth, because poor people were pale from working in the factories.

Mercnbeth -> RE: Let's talk about Race (4/3/2007 2:32:38 PM)

For starters how about this thread:

http://www.collarchat.com/m_838951/mpage_1/key_redhead/tm.htm

or this one:

http://www.collarchat.com/m_723825/mpage_1/key_red%2Chair/tm.htm

Ever heard the term “redheaded step-child” used in a positive association? “Ill beat you like a redheaded stepchild”. This phrase was born out of the American south and implies the status of illegitimate offspring with a white master.

One of our favorite shows, South Park, included in their episode about “Gingers” the stereotypes that red-headed kids are just plain weird and “without souls”.

At St. Paul’s cathedral in London, figurines tell the story of the fall in the Garden of Eden. Adam points one hand to the forbidden fruit and the other to a golden haired Eve. Then the arch angel drives them from the garden. Adam with his fig leaf loops his arm around Eve who is now cowering and sporting a main of long red hair.

Similarly in the paintings of the Sistine Chapel in 1874, Michelangelo’s Temptation depicts a brown haired Eve being handed a red apple by a red headed bare breasted serpent woman (Satan manifested as woman of course carries red hair). In the adjacent fresco Eve is thrown out of the garden with a shameful face and a twist of red hair.

Eves’ red hair is seen as the stain of sin like the original scarlet letter. Later her son, Cain, will bare the red hair and also a fall from grace.

Belief that redheads are witches is a folk belief in Germanic culture. From 1483-1784 thousands of suspected witches were nearly always stripped and searched for “marks of the devil”. These included any “abnormality” such as freckles, moles, warts, and birthmarks. Red hair was certainly considered an abnormality. Considering the freckle factor for redheads this was a deadly and shocking horror. Somewhere around 45,000 women were tortured and murdered usually by burning at the stake or by drowning.

In central Africa’s Cameroon redheaded albinos, called Nguenguerous, are believed also to come by this color by menstrual intercourse. The UN and other world organizations have studied and advocated for their rights as there have been allegations of the ritual murders in some regions of Africa.

Personally, this slave has met people who ranged from wanting to have nothing to do with her and made no bones about telling her about it, BASED on her hair color and the belief of negative stereotypes associated with it to folks who just wanted to get down her pants to see if it was “true what they say about redheads, y’know, red-on-the-head-fire-in-the-hole” to folks with a redhead fetish, which all qualifies as prejudice, to this slave.

edited to add:  Judas is always depicted as a redhead, adding "untrustworthy" to the list of stereotypes passed around about redheads.
