Actually the darker your skin the less susceptible one is to skin cancer for instance in Aboriginal people as well as Native Americans skin cancer is relatively low...the same holds true for black folks....So again this brings me back to the fact that the planet is trying to rid itself of red heads and their inferior submissive gene....I bid them all a fond fair thee well.

It is one redeeming factor of the red head is that the carpet usually does match the drapes....Still it would be nice if you all returned to the sewers from which you were spawned....lol.

In Hong Kong some of the locals used to say that westeners smelt of rancid milk. They presumed it came from the high milk content diet - anyone else come across this?

Growing up as a minority you have to learn the difference between stereotyping, racism and ignorance of cultural differences as you experience it on an almost daily basis. I will be honest I kind of get a kick out of these threads as it is always the Caucasians that seem to get bent out of shape.

I worked with a Chinese woman (she actually came from China, not a Chinese-American) who was very self-conscious of her "look", accent, and her confusion at the American vernacular.  I always had to remind her that anyone that had a problem with any of those things is the one with the problem, not her.

She did find it difficult to look Asian in a sea of white; but I would remind her that it's normal when you are out of your comfort zone.  A white person in China is quite out of place.  Eventually, being someplace new will become your comfort zone after enough time.  She also find it humorous when I would speak Chinese (I know next to nothing) because my accent was horrible - but it proved a point that the shoe can be on the other foot and at least she had the guts to move halfway around the world, learn a new language, and be able to function.

I agree with Devilslilsister that I am more interested in cultural differences and skin color is at best secondary. I will add, what is the deal with Caucasians and tanning?

First, you can call us "white"; Caucasian is so P.C.  (Personally, if someone wants to call me white, whitey, cracker, gringo, gweilo, etc. - it doesn't bother me)

Second, a comedian once said something to the effect of "white women are getting tan, getting collagen in their lips, and liposuction to make their hips more pronounced in order to entice the white men.  Why don't the white guys just date black women?"  It's funny, but it goes to show that people seem to want what they don't have.

On another note - white people can look a bit sickly due to the light skin.  A little color just makes us look healthier.  Once again, it's all perspective.

oI had a teacher who loved to tan and her skin was so ugly, it was all leathery looking and she painted her nails orange which looked floresent against her leathery skin.

We were at the Folsom Street Fair last year and a fascinated Asian man with a camera approached us.  He asked permission to photograph and then asked Master...."Please excuse if this is rude question, but how do you get her nipples to be pink like that?"

Beth, I'm a red-head too and always wished I'd had those beautiful, big, dark brown nipples 'real women' have.  Mine are pale pink and you can hardly tell where the areola ends and my breast begins.

I'm guessing the Asian man is used to the pretty brown ones.

I wonder if you’ve always wanted darker, too?  Funny how we yearn for what we don’t have …or find exotic that which we’re not used to.

I am wondering how many African American-Caucasian marriages last a lifetime, or even 20 years. Every one that i know of has ended in divorce. My daughter's lasted 8 months.

beverly,
frankly, this slave has never wanted or yearned for darker skin, on nipples or elsewhere---but then, this slave has a preference for a person's natural look---skin color, hair color, size of body parts, etc.---there is no universal color of skin or hair or size of body part that she thinks is "best" or most desirable.

Melanomas are not fun. My daughter had one on the back of  her calf, took 2 surgeries to remove all of it, her scar is abou 5" long and she had lymph nodes in her groin removed also, and she was only 28 at the time.  My mother had a melanoma just above her ankle and after removing it and grafting skin from her thigh, she looked like she had a shark bite, they had to go so deep.  No more sitting in the sun for us.

Good grief....  I tell ya.. gotta get out more!

I wonder if it comes across like baby's breath or puppy breath type of smell.

Now you got me thinking- when I visited Ireland, people knew I was American before I even opened my mouth.  I actually was told (when I got back home) it was our shoes (the Reboc or Nike and the like)  Any insights?

Ok, i was just educated on the difference of Race and culture.

IMO - i think race is abit boring.

Culture is much more interesting.

Race is just skin color??  Well GAH - how BORING.  i mean really, how can you have tons of uniqueness with that?

Lets talk culture instead.  Much much more interesting

If you want to talk about culture, start your own thread.  The OP is asking about race, so let's stick to the topic.

I was taught at university that there is only one race on this planet...the human race...all variations on that race were called ethnicities.

Everyone hates redheads....You know the saying..."Beaten like a redheaded stepchild."  They are truly the scourge of the planet...Barely human....Trying to act like they are normal with their pale freckled skin.....God they  are so fucking creepy!!! They are like some race of underground dwellers banished from their caves and forced to live amongst the normal people....Always hiding from the sun and living on carion....God how I loathe the red head.

Well part of the deal with caucasians and tanning, is that it produces vitamins(D and some others), which make us feel good.  More importantly it is a sign of being rich, having time to sit around and tan.  Similar to being thin.  In the old days being fat was a sign of wealth, now being fit is(In America, anyway).  It's also partly fashion programing by the corprate media.  An interesting Cultral trait I recently learned, is that in China and other parts of Asia, women go to get thier skin lightened, and have for centuries.  For the same reason, it denotes wealth... not having to work outside/labor.  I was told that in offices the Chinese will fight to not have to sit by the window.

luckydog1:
Sunlight is the only known source of significant amounts of vitamin D which is necessary for everyone no matter what skin color they posses.
Vitamin D is also availble naturaly,in small amounts, in fish liver oil and  egg yolks.

but if that is the case then why isn't this having a significant effect on african-americans? most black men i know don't really care about breast size (the nice round bottom is the primary concern), and of those who do, fake breasts are not seen as desireable at all.

Because, they don't make "push up panties."

What I want to know ...

Lot of us have seen this I bet ... if you take a white guy and put him with four brotha's, within five minutes he will be speaking ghetto ... crummy ghetto mind you, but ghetto none the less. Keep in mind, that even if the Brotha's he is with aren't speaking ghetto ... he will still be speaking it.

Does this happen with other people. If you take an oriental guy and put him with some Italians from New York, will he start saying things like, "Hoow aaah yuuu dowin' round eye?"

What about someone from the Fjords, hanging with some dudes from Jamaca ... "Hey Sven, bee za schport and paaaaas me za ganja mon!"

Oh, and why don't chicks ever do this? (or maybe they do, and homegirl just didn't notice!)

yeah i was just going to tell him to kiss my ass, but you said it abit more elegantly.  ha!

When i lived in Hong Kong and spent 98% of my time surrounded by the english and scottish, my speech was unrecognizable as american.  i would get into arguements with Americans and American sailors about where i was from.  I'd say California and they'd argue.  They swore i was either english or australian or something of the sort.  But then to be fair, i had immersed myself completely in the Hong Kong British culture.  Funniest part of it all was when my mother looked at me and said "why are you speaking like that?"  I had to literally stop in my tracks and work my way out of speaking with a scottish accent.

Er - i think it happens to others = )

FWIW, there's a black-white couple at church who seem to have been together at least 20 years.
