Perhaps he's looking for an academy award - certainly seems to like dramatic public performances.

I personally would like to know what we (britain) gave Iran for their release. Apparently pressure was put on Iran by ourselves and several other countries. Something about this whole thing stinks.

Well, basically your country used the old American negotiation technique of give them back and we won't kick your asses.

edited for poor spelling

Nope apparently we didn't and to be honest i don't think our military at the moment has the capacity to kick anyones ass. Iran would not have released them on those threats, they said that all along. The only way the prisoners release was to be considered was by diplomatic talks.

It's the sutlties of diplomacy.  They don't have to threaten with they're own military. They have allies...ie. the homocidal juggernaut that is us, the US....among others but we seem to enjoy desert fighting :-)

I think Iran probably knows that the USA is not capable of making any more than a feeble attack at the moment either. Lets face it you are struglling to keep up in Iraq never mind take on Iran too.

Missturbation, we would have a tough time occupying Iran, but we could easily take out the gov, IF we choose to.  And it would not be feeble in anyway.

Thats not the impression i get. As i see it you havent enough troops to manage in Iraq at the moment so how on earth could you do any damage to Iran. The USA at the moment appears pretty feeble to me, not the great super power at all.

Do you have any idea how many troops this country has that they haven't deployed?  I've got friends chomping at the bit to go over there because they still haven't been deployed for their first tour after, what, 4 years in Iraq.  There's just a handful over there now....which is the problem.  Our idiot administration is too fixated on proving the Iraqis can handle it with minimal help that they refuse to admit that they can't yet.  Sorry, I came from a military family....there is no such thing as "we can't" or "they're too tough".

Not to say that dealing with Iran wouldn't be difficult.  But they're military consists of the same poorly trained soldiers and obsolete equipment as the Iraqi army.

So the media is totally wrong then?
If the USA is so capable of dealing with Iraq why did they call on British support, Spanish support?
Why do we hear constantly that there is a distinct lack of people signing up to join the army over there resulting in a lack of troops?
I'm sorry to say but there is such a thing as 'i can't' but the USA being what it is doesn't like to admit it.

The media has severely twisted things, yes.  They're not totaly wrong but it's not the reality either. The problem isn't with the strength of our military, it's the damn post war policies that are screwing things up.  My friend Jason is a local recruiter here...and he's not one to feed me bullshit.  There are in the neighborhood of 1.4 million serving in out armed forces today...how many are were actually sent to Iraq, just a small percentage.  Policy has always been the fault in our military.  No one in our government wants to commit to anything fully because it might damage thier careers...it's always about saving thier own asses at the cost of the soldier's.

I see.
My curiosity though has me wondering if Bush would have backed up Blair had the decision been made to go to war with Iran rather than use diplomatic talks.

lol, I don't think Bush really needs much of an excuse to invade any country.  He seems pretty eager to jump into anything.

You think bush would jump into something he can't back up? Also technically it was Britains shit to deal with and well i reckon Bush is not as far up Blairs ass as Blair is up his.
