So would a homosexual president be insulated from the very people that elected them in the first place?

Is that a SERIOUS question????

In exactly the same way every president has, including all the venerable 'Greats' to have held the office... Washington was a Middle-Class, tax dodging, plantation owner who grew up in (comparatively) a life of privelidge. Merely the first of many. If anything, that isolation has gotten worse as the 'affluence gap' has widened over the last 230 years.

they might want more gay rights.

Which would be what?

Ross

It could be tougher laws on hate crime (it really doesn't cover sexual preference), or rights to adopt, to not lose their jobs, perhaps marriage, or partner rights in case of death or being in the hospital...there are a number of things that "straight" people take for granted and don't realize that others don't have.  How about making it so gay people can be in the military and not have to worry about being kicked out?  You would think that the people that don't want them in there, would actually want them in there on the chance it might kill off a couple.

As someone that was with a woman and wanted to marry her, and worried about my rights while we were trying to have a child, I know what it's like to not have those things and have them a constant worry.  Do you???

I believe a gay person as President would allow thier sexual preference influence policies...especially since this has been the decade of the gay on tv.

Seems one could not turn on tv or go anywhere without having homosexual values shoved down one's throats.

Kind of like a White House employee had a cigar shoved up her twat?

Some guys think with their dicks and can't be trusted to do anything else.  Let's not elect another president that thinks with his dick.  The criteria isn't his choice of consenting adult partners, but how appropriate he is about acting on his sexuality.  I don't care if the president is male or female, gay or straight.  I just want the job done competently without inappropriate dick-waving.

It goes against everything the Unted States and the Founding Fathers established and outlined in their writings.

Care to provide examples? i've read a fair number of political texts from the American Revolution era, and i'm drawing a blank on this one.

I can't think of any time the framers addressed homosexuality either.

FWIW, Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben, the man who largely built the U.S. Army, is widely reported to have been gay. He brought a young "assistant" with him to Valley Forge.

It might help the discussion, Ross, if you tell us what you mean by "gay values" and "family values."

Because of course the religous right president we have now certainly has not let any of his personal lifestyle choices affect how he does his job!

Oh and one other thought. I believe I heard some straight white guys moaning about how much of a minority they have become in this country.............sooooooooo.........no more straight white guys allowed in office.

Intersting to read form someone who has this in here profile:

It means, Lady Tiger, that tuna prices will go up in china as more males will be out fishing for a lay.... ever hear of the Happy Fisherman??? [:D]

Shame on you! You've single handedly raised the tuna prices! [sm=m23.gif] How can you live with yourself?

Greetings..~smiles~

Not a clue as to what has been posted in the 6 or 7 pages of this already but in response: If the person has the required qualifications to run for Presidency..then absolutely. The American people will decide wether they win or loose. The American people will decide (if he/she should win) wether or not they get to retain that title once their in there.

While this girl has no particular interest in the goings on of gay men..the realization of knowing that those that go against the mainstream religious condemning damnation zealots is a strong victory and win for Any of us who participate or wish to live our lives in accordances to our own beliefs and values without the intrusion/penaltys of the mass's thrust upon us.

Well Wishes
starshine

The question here is so obviously bait and i'm not even gonna bite [:@].  But.....i find it very ironic that a man who would type a sentence like the one above is judging who among us can pass a GED test.  i don't go around dogging people for their grammar and spelling and general intelligence at all.  BUT....when someone does, to me that means they have opened the door to having their own critiqued.  Just a thought.........slave luci

I couldn't help chuckling over that sentence either.

just a thought, what with all the repression and marriages for the sake of appearances over the last few centuries, its quite possible that the US, (and UK et al) has already had a gay president, but just didnt know it.

Oh- I would bet on it-

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: Do you feel that a gay person should be the President of The United States? I do not It goes aga (4/11/2007 11:17:34 AM)

yes i did - perhaps next try checking your bulk mail, i asked you a question about your profile.  you read it and didn't reply.  would you need to know the exact date and time - i'm sure it's still in my sent folder.

as far as social graces - you showed me none in respect to my using an avatar instead of my picture that's posted on my profile. you want respect next ask me in private why i don't use my profile photo ...maybe i'll respond back to you (probably not).  oh don't flatter yourself, i don't read your stuff - merely skim through it

as far as gay culture being shoved down your throat- change the channel. there are over 200 channels.... or better yet- cut the cable as i have.

as far as being a bad influence on kids- i doubt it. there is plenty of blame to go around. :-)

2 lesbiens used to live here- ui have to run some carpetting to dump- carpets just drenched w pussy juice... ;-D~

or rights to adopt,

The right to adopt is already present to My knowledge..the gay groups have used the Easter Egg Roll at the White House as a political agenda

to not lose their jobs,

that would be discrimination

perhaps marriage, or partner rights in case of death or being in the hospital...there are a number of things that "straight" people take for granted and don't realize that others don't have.

Wasn't aware of most of that...

How about making it so gay people can be in the military and not have to worry about being kicked out?

Agreed...I alread mentioned that earlier
