thetammyjo -> "Blood Ties" -- the television series (4/11/2007 6:45:57 AM)

I've now watched 5 or 6 episodes of this new series based on the books by Tanya Huff (would be 6 if you count the two hour intro as two episodes).

The series has four main characters:

Private investigator who had to leave the police force because she is going blind and finds herself drawn into supernatural events.

Her goth-girl assistant who does a lot of research.

Her ex-cop, perhaps ex-boyfriend, associate whom reluctantly shares information with her and is displaying a lot of jealousy.

A 450 year old vampire who is a graphic novel author/artist who rountinely helps her and attempts to seduce her (and fails).

There is a point to this post, I'm almost there, hang on.

So I'm watching this show and I'm processing the female investigator/vampire relationship as female dom/male submissive.

It could be my mind filtering out other things but here's what I see.

1) he is attracted to her because his mind control abilities do not work on her
2) he is constantly giving her footrubs
3) he rountinely fetches her drinks when they are in her office or his apartment
4) he is designing his new heroine after her
5) an ex-girlfriend of his commented that he "liked be tied up" and he didn't deny it at all
6) he comes whenever she needs him -- bit limited by sunlight
7) even when he thinks she is wrong, they do things her way

Is anyone else watching this show and seeing these things too?

I'm loving this show!

Wow.  I loved the series muchly, but I'm completely out of the loop when it comes to television as I don't watch the stuff.  But this one I will....if I can find it.   I would be *extremely* grateful to anyone who could make a link to downloads available to me.  Someone has to have put this on the Net.

It's on the Lifetime network, Sundays 10pm eastern time.

Here's a link to the official site for it.

It even has a blog for Tanya Huff to write and so far she seems to like the television version.

I'm with Najakcharmer... if anyone knows of a Canadian friendly, *ahem* legal, download site, I'd be very grateful. I'll even send cookies... [:D]

Feel free to message me on the other side [:)]

Well darn, I cannot afford cable here.
Have to wait until this series is on DVD.
Sounds like a whole lotta fun, tammyjo.
Thank you for sharing it with us. [:D]

What is this "television" thing you keep talking about? Did it replace the wandering minstrels that entertain my village?

It may have.

I'm lucky, I get both -- the chorus the husband is in practices once a week here and then I can watch the tv too when something worth my time comes on.

Lifetime.

Sundays at 10pm Eastern time.

I tried to cut&paste a link to the website about it above in post #4 but I was using my campus computer (which sucks) and it didn't work right.

Now word of caution: I may be reading a lot into the dynamics, I've certainly have done that in the past.

Hmmm... thanks for the tip! Sunday is TV night here, and it would be nice to have a post-Family Guy option other than our pathetic local news.

Now, if they'd only start a series for the "Anita Blake: Orgasm Hunter" novels... (i don't care how much crash dieting i'd have to do... i'd make a great Nathaniel!)

Check YouTube..  They might have it..

Also, just check the lifetime site itself.  They may stream shows that have already run...

BeachMystress -> RE: "Blood Ties" -- the television series (4/12/2007 9:28:32 AM)

Aack, I'm already watching more TV shows than I'd like.. and here ya give me yet another. Well fine, be that way. I'll return the favor. If you've not caught the newish series on Sci Fi called The Dresden Files, http://www.scifi.com/dresden/ it's pretty good. The books by Jim Butcher http://www.amazon.com/gp/series/83652/ref=pd_serl_books/104-2526427-6233533?ie=UTF8&edition=paperback are better of course.

As for Female Domination in main stream TV.. have you ever seen Malcolm in the Middle? http://www.fox.com/malcolm/ The entire family is submissive to the mother. An in your face example of the Female Dominant theme is in the episode called Lois' Birthday. Near the end, she screams “I need a little human consideration! I shouldn’t even have to ask!” and Hal says, “Oh. Jeez. Honey, that’s never gonna happen.”

And Lois says “Wh-what?”
And Hal says:
“We’re not smart enough to do that. Look who you’re talking to! You might as well ask us all to be a foot taller. Sweetie, you’re always gonna have to tell us what to do. I mean, look at this half-baked celebration. And we’re at the top of our game here! The only thing we’re ever going to be able to offer you is our total, abject, obedience. I know that it doesn’t sound like much, but look at it this way: Our meager abilities are yours completely. One. Hundred. Percent.”
Also in the episode Lois' Birthday, a visiting singer pins the oldest son to the ground while making out. When he reaches for her, she grabs his wrist and slams it back to the ground, holding it there. If you watch, every episode has some nod to the female being the one in charge. In an episode I saw recently, Stereo Store, Lois was "at her sisters" and they used a babysitter as the female Dominant. She manipulated, coerced and flat out blackmailed the boys into doing what she wanted. Half way through the episode I turned to my subhub and said.. she's good. It's a funny show to begin with and the nods to FemDom just make it better.

Thank you very much, BeachMystress.

I hate when I can't just cut&paste addresses.

CrimsonMoan -> RE: "Blood Ties" -- the television series (4/12/2007 3:20:34 PM)

I watch Blood Ties and i have to agree i have seen it as well. Henry is totally capable of stopping her physcially but chooses not to do so.

YouTube doesn't seem to like me... I can't get downloads longer than a few minutes. But, I shall have to try again... *sigh*... like I need another excuse to waste time! LOL

I did check the site, but it doesn't have downloads of already-run episodes. [&o] Even if they did, I doubt I'd be able to get them... other stations that do stream, only do so for Americans (or those using American servers). [8|]

thetammyjo -> RE: "Blood Ties" -- the television series (4/23/2007 4:48:33 PM)

Ok, did anyone else watch last night's episode?

Henry, the vampire, being tortured for almost 95% of the episode.

It was so hot!
