What kind of price tag is on a trip like this? Sounds pricey unless you have relatives you are staying with.

Round figure I think about 5-6 thousand dollars.

Hi Popeye,

The Swedes and Danes that come here as exchange students
drink like fishes and party all weekend.  Have you checked out
the Lonely Planet books?  They are full of great information and
recommendations, prices, etc.  Are you going to check out the
fjords and lakes?

Your trip sounds wonderful!  Be sure to pack plenty of good socks
and 2 pairs of good walking shoes.  Talcum powder is great for
minimizing chafing and keeping your shoes fresh.  I also recommend
getting some plastic hangers and clothes pins along with a bottle of liquid
detergent for washing out your light weight clothes when traveling.
That way you may only have to use a laundry service once or twice
for the heavier items like jeans and sweaters.

Have fun storming the castle!

i was in Sweden last September/October. All of my time was spent in Stockholm. It's a beautiful city. Majestic, historic, clean, friendly and yet very modern.

Be sure to visit Gamla Stan, the oldest part of town. And the old sunken vessel they recovered is called The Vassa... it's huge! and well worth a look. Birka is outside of Stockholm and not open all year round. Some of the major attractions are closed when not peak touring season.

If You enjoy great acrhitecture be sure to check out the Stadshuset (City Hall) where they hold the Nobel Prize each year. It's stunning! And incidently, You can order for lunch any meal they had for the Nobel prize lunch as far back as the early 1900's i believe (if memory serves me right). But i think You need to give them some notice.

They make the best salmon dish there, marinated. i will have to ask my Master what it's called, i dont recall. And You can try reindeer too... that was yummy.

My Master is in Sweden, so if You have any further questions You can email me on the other side and i would be more than happy to follow them up for You

Just one question... can i come? Pleaseeeeeeeeeeee?  i would have my own accommodation so i would be no bother

Hope this helps some, have a wonderful time. The Swedes are very friendly
tali

edited to add:  i have some wonderful photos of Stockholm if You would like to see some of the great sights there  i could rave on for hours about the place... makes me homesick...

Vendaval, what do you think I'm going hiking or backpacking or something? "Roughing it" for me is the Holiday Inn!
I'll probably stay in a few 4 star hotels.
I'll probably be in a rental car, ferryboat or bus doing my "sightseeing." Of course I'll walk around in the cities of Stockholm, Malmo and Copenhagen.
As for underware and socks I have my own system.
I take my oldest ones and discard them as I go lightening my luggage for gifts and such. I just toss them.
I'll fly direct to Stockholm from Newark on SAS Airlines
And I'll either fly out of Copenhagen or Malmo to Dublin.
From there I take the train up to Sligo, rent a car and it's off to Ballyshannon for the folk/music festival for a few days and over to Teelin to see the crowd from Altan.
Then down the west coast of Ireland through Sligo, Mayo, Galway and depart from Shannon on Aer Lingus to JFK in NYC and then to Myrtle Beach.
I'll be going in the last part of July of 2008 so the weather should be nice! And it stays light until about 11 at night during the summers over there.

Just curious... out of all the countries in Europe, why Sweden and Denmark?

Not that those countries don't have much to offer, and I'm sure they are beautiful, but compared to their more southern counterparts they definately lag behind in tourist attractions, museums, art, archaeology, music, architecture, cuisine, etc.

Having been in Sweden recently i beg to differ! There is loads to see and do... it's a truely beautiful country and has a wonderful high quality of life/living.

i personally believe it to be a fantastic choice in places to visit! i can't wait to return!!!

Oh hey, if you like the luxury style and can afford it,
by all means go for it!

I'll probably be in a rental car, ferryboat or bus doing my "sightseeing."
Of course I'll walk around in the cities of Stockholm, Malmo and Copenhagen.

I much prefer to not drive when out of the US.
Something about ending up in a ditch just is not appealing.

As for underware and socks I have my own system.
I take my oldest ones and discard them as I go lightening my luggage for gifts and such. I just toss them.

That is my technique for camping and Burning Man.

I'll fly direct to Stockholm from Newark on SAS Airlines

Do share your pictures when you come back with us.
Many here have serious travel envy.

Thanks Tali.
Vendaval, I LOVE driving overseas!
They drive on the left hand side of the road in Ireland and the steering is on the right and up north the roads are narrow and there's sheep in the road. Standard transmissions.
A lot of fun!
