My first thought was that this falls into the "catagory" of: if you love someone and "if let them go and if they never return<--editted too late to edit the original..sorry> they were never yours in the first place.

I also think that if she wants to be released (no matter what the reason: finding her soul, finding myself, etc.,) You don't really "have" her in the first place.
