Regarding the communication dynamics involved using message boards (here as well as vanilla sites), I've noticed any time someone makes a declaritive statement (stating a position, making a judgment, etc.), a cascade of follow-on messages appear. They almost invariably focus on criticism of the original poster for taking a position that could be regarded is a "personal view." At some point, those messages in turn receive criticism (and so on...and so on). This always leaves me feeling a bit baffled and a little amused. We are on a website, communicating through words alone. It's extremely difficult to say anything without taking a position of some sort, if for no other reason than to have a starting point to begin a discussion. In addition, this form of communication is like looking at a person through a pinhole. Very little information is actually available which is why trolls and other insincere people thrive online. Finally, and perhaps most important...many people do not have good communication skills and probably are not even aware of the fact. As Socrates once said, "they don't know that they don't know." anthrosub
