Status: offline 		As far as fears I had two rational ones and one irrational one. I have the irrational fear of clowns. Previously I had a very serious fear of flying and heights. On my 40th bday I was suprised with a gift of going skydiving. My UM , his father and I had planned to all go together for our 40th's. I was terrified beyond terrified. I refused to go. Then he hit me with the why. That he had kept some of his father's ashes and wanted to release them when we went. Luckily there was a valium around from a root canal. Put it this way, I was so afraid I bought a depends in case I pissed myself in the outcome. In the video my face is sheer white and my hands are shaking even with a half valium in my system.

It was the most amazing and awe inspiring things I've ever done in my life. Granted my legs locked up and the instrustor had to kick my knees out from under me to get me out of the plane but once out and in free fall it was indescribable. I did it this year as well on my Bday and plan to do so for the rest of my life.

On the bright side I didn't pee myself as feared.

I had a fear of clowns all through childhood. I did not like Santa Claus either...lol. My exhubby thought that "It" was the perfect movie to scare the shit out of me, and it did... just eeeewwwwww.

There is a picture of my cousin and myself at a parade and our parents made us pose with Ronald McDonald... my cousin was all smiling big and wide, and I look like I might throw up

I've done everything.
I have a friend though who used to be a Prison Guard, pardon me, "Corection Officer" and he told me he had a phobia of retards. lol
I said , "What! You're afraid of retarded people?"
He said, "Yup, with some people it's Clowns or Lightening or Fire, with me it's Retards."
And I knew a Cop who was deathly afraid of fire.

Status: offline 		Hooray Julia! A driving class is a good idea, but get lots of practice besides. The day after I got my license I took a road trip. Sure learned a lot that day. NYC driving still scares me- too many major highways squashed into a little area and I don't really know where they all end up. Avoid squashed places till you feel more comfortable. Status: offline 		julia, congrats on facing and hopefully taking the first steps to conquering your fears. that alone is more than many ever accomplish.

i also have a phobia of driving, severe social anxiety (making it usually impossible for me to tolerate being in a mall), and whole heapa other things. however in my case i no longer view my fears as things that cripple me or hold me back, but instead things that make me unique and oddly enough, more valuable to my Master. He loves that i cannot drive and have no desire to drive, because it means that he has total control over any of my movements outside of the house. it also makes me more vulnerable in that i'm not very familiar with my surroundings...and he likes anything that increases a sub/slave's vulnerability. the same with my social anxiety...although there have certainly been times it has been difficult for him to cope with, he always says he wouldn't change it for the world because he likes the increased dependence on him.

so i'm fortunate to be in a situation where my fears and phobias are actually considered good and useful. if i had a different sort of Master, or were single, can't say what the heck i would do.

LOL I still get squicked out by clowns. Amazingly I had no idea there was a "Bozo the Clown" incident when I was about 2 that I just learned of in the last month.

OMG I got up and walked out of "it" shaking like a leaf, I couldn't even read the book and I went to the movie knowing there was a damned clown involved LOL

My driving phobia is without a doubt the biggest fear I have. It's so awesome to see somebody else overcome it. Gives me hope, lol

And the part I highlighted makes me glad I posted this thread, and it gives me a little more reason to get over it completely..

Having read your posts for about year now....I think public relations /strategies is right up your alley. I don't even have to cross my fingers for you {But I will}.......I think you've already got the job in the bag.

As for fears....I've been stabbed, had a 9mm pointed in my face, crawled out on the wing of Cessna's and jumped out of them{many many times}, rafted/kayaked very elite class 5+ rivers and creeks - never been scared. But put me under an old house or in a dark basement where there's spiders, and man-o-man does it mess with me. I don't like spiders, scorpions and most insects - Again they really mess with me. I just avoid where they're at.

I was evidently on Bozo..it was a kids show filmed out of Chicago and I screamed and cried the entire time struggling to get away from him while he held me on his lap complete with hysterical laughter from the in house audience. I had no recollection of it at all until discussing it with my mother and she started laughing. " you don't remember??" and told me the entire story. I still don't have any memory of it but it certainly explains alot. LOL

Well the offer came from Sherman Oaks, that is kinda far to commute from my location...smiles, but I will look into it and see what they offer. I could move to any place for the right incentive.

Status: offline 		For a long time, I was afraid of driving accross the Bay Bridge that crosses the Chesapeak.  Unfortunately, I didn't know I was afraid of that until I was on it, with a toddler and a 6 yr old in the back seat, and I began to have a serious anxiety attack.  It was my first recognizable attack.  There was nothing I could do but keep driving so I just started talking outloud, stream of consciousness like, going on and on about "the big scary bridge" and how we have to stay focused on where we need to go, eyes straight ahead, dont look over the edge blah blah blah.  For years that bridge scared me, and me and my ums still call it the big scary bridge. 

Just yesterday, I drove over it and hardly noticed.  When I was almost at the end, I remembered how scary it used to be and felt really good about it.

I used to have alot of anxieties about driving that I had to deal with after I separated from my ex.  I was fine with short drives, but would have strange freakouts on interstates.  I just kept chugging away, and now it doesn't bother me at all.

Status: offline 		Sure, i'm afraid of heights.  i hate em.  Which i didnt ever realise until i went bungy jumping in New Zealand about 10 years ago.  What a way to find out eh?  Yet these days, i just sort of ignore if i can.  i've climbed up on my roof and last summer i think it was, i climbed up a 20 foot tree.  Can we say "hold on for dear life"?  Once i was up, i was cursing myself up a storm and was NOT coming back down.  Eventually i did.  (i'm here arent i?)  IMO i try to ignore the fear until i cant ignore it any longer.  IE i could ignore it going UP the tree and once up i couldnt ignore it any longer LOL.  i've done rock climbing walls and i do fine going UP - but once up and they're all hollaring to "let go" - i literally climb back down. 

Errr.. and i'm usually proud of myself that i've managed to get myself down with out chickening out.  Can you hear me screaming "Daddddddddddddddddddy"  Stuck up a 20 foot tree?  lol

I don't really share your phobia, but do hate driving in heavy traffic ... and where I live, thats about all we ever have ... tons of traffic, driving very quickly.
 
My advice, get yourself a big, huge, massive pickup truck or SUV. I just traded the little BMW I got for my High School graduation, for a Ford F150 King Ranch, Texas Edition, with a 4" lift kit. Its da' bomb ... I can see over everything, and rarely get that "clostro" feeling. People tend to get out of my way. It burns massive amounts of gas ... I feel so completely American!
