Status: offline 		If you are trying to get a rise out of me by telling me you drive a gas hog in stop and go traffic, well that is on your conscience. People do what they want no matter what I say about it, I can live with the Saturn I bought that is fuel efficient and safe... it works for me. Being one of those people that drives a Hummer to pick up my kids from soccer practice makes me wanna ----->, but to each their own.

Status: offline 		I have a fear of heights...being on the edge kind of heights.  Not high up in the air kind of heights.  Love rollercoasters and I want to sky dive, but I can't climb up onto the roof.  I freeze.

There is a hike I have always wanted to go on, and I plan on doing it maybe this summer, Half Dome.

Status: offline 		I'm sort of with you ... I think gas hogs should be reserved for need. We live out in the sticks some, and have a bit of land, so the family needs a pickup of some kind. We also have a mom person, that uses a power chair and need something that can actually move it ... to church, etc ... My foster dad used to drive one, but wanted to switch to a car ... so we got this one for me.
 
That said, I'm so much more confident with this huge thing (once I actually get myself in it ). I used to stay off the highway as much as I could ... something about driving 85 mph in a little Black Forrest POS was just too much. I have no problem with the highway now ...

I have done similar hikes in Yosemite, but not that one. I was raised near there though... lots of mountains and few cars... I am a little like Heidi...laughing my ass off.

Status: offline 		I wanted to add something so I will not be dismissive of my own phobia. I have this feeling like if I had an accident I would hurt someone and I could not live with killing someone. Everytime I get behind the wheel of a car I get very agitated because of this fear. When my father died I felt responsible for that, and I never communicated this, and it stewed inside of me for a couple of decades. I think this is the root of my fear, because I just could not take being responsible if someone "else" died because of me. I know that does not make much sense, but we are talking emotional content

Yes, I have had to face many fears in the last couple of years - Scary stuff!!  Just the other day Mr. Wonderful was telling me he is proud of my courage. I said "What the heck do you mean?  I was afraid of that stuff!"  He said "If you weren't afraid of it, it wouldn't have required courage to do it."  Huh.

I'm all about attacking fears head on.    It's so liberating and the rewards are enormous.  Kudos to you!

Status: offline 		       Congrats, Julia.  I was passed on the afternoon commute by some guy doing 85 and lane-hopping while watching a tv mounted to his dashboard, so I'll skip the joke about now having to overcome a fear of sharing the road with you.

      I'll offer a suggestion if the big trucks make you nervous, take a ride in one.  Sit in the drivers seat (parked of course) and understand what CAN'T be seen in the mirrors.  Watch what it takes to make a right turn on city streets.

     And if you get the uncontrollable urge for a road trip, you can bypass most of LA from mid-state by cutting over to the 15 on 58 to 395 and down (138 is a construction nightmare) and then over to San Juan Capistrano through the Cleveland National Forest (74?) which is a beautiful drive in the springtime.

That is a good suggestion, one of my brothers drives tour buses and the other just became a long haul truck driver...lol

The first car I bought was a chevy blazer and it guzzled gas. It was all I could afford and I lived in an area that required 4-wheel drive. I did not actually drive it, but that was why I bought it...lol

The kids here play Football on friday nights and Baseball in the warm weather.
Caitlyn the play Football in Texas right?
What is it with Clowns?
I think they're funny.
Why are some people afraid of them? That doesn't make sense.
As for hights I was in Donegal, Ireland in 2002 and went up to Bunglass, the highest seacliffs in Europe at 1,972 ft.
It's like an inverted bowl, you can walk up the side of it and look down on fishing boats waaaay below, absolutely gorgeous!
Well, I was walking up the path and it went away from the edge for a bit so I walked over to the edge and looked over and I could see seagulls flying around about 1,000 feet below me so I figured I must be up at the 1,400 foot mark or so looking up at the top.
Then it dawned on me that I should probably take a step or two back as I was standing *right on the edge* of a 1,400 foot drop.
It was very pretty though!

Really? I always thought Dahmer was pretty damn creepy with the eating of brains and all. But yeah Gacy dressed as a clown is enough to squick anyone.

Back on topic, it's really awesome that you posted to begin with because there's going to be others out there that have the same phobia, that will look at you and say "If she can do it...so can I".
Again...there's alot of people very proud of what you're accomplishing. Have the faith, and remember it will just make getting to visit Synergy easier! Woot! Then you guys just have to come on down here to North County San Diego and say hello!

     Those are called 'yard monkeys,' Sinergy.  Truckers will marvel at their speed in backing and maneuvering in the controlled environment they call home (and yes, I know you gotta be careful, but there aren't stupid civilians everywhere).  Ever climbed Loveland Pass?

     I'm sure you'll do much to help Julia gain experience and confidence as she develops this important skill.  Good luck and cardboard boxes are best for teaching parallel parking.

I actually drive a deisel tractor, about semi truck size, but not licensed for the street.

Get can at ship.

Park can in yard.

Get can at ship.

Park can in yard.

Use braille parking methods whenever necessary.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Yeah, I think I have a minor fear of people sometimes. Sometimes just going out into a crowd can seem a little challenging. It has lessened over the years.
