I'd be particularly interested in skipping past those posts which are excessively long, include numerous quotes or, god help us all, links...

LOL it's obvious Oedipus doesn't enjoy the intellect which involves retention and research skills.

... snicker... is that what we call it?

Nope, no thanks.  Can handle it, so save yourself the trouble.

i am hoping education level isnt a prerequist for a slave....LOL i'd be in pretty bad shape if it were. i have raised a family <all 3 of my kids are grown now and i even have grandkids> i have successfully run a household for 23 years now and i feel like that has been no small feat. while i am not a "book smart"<have a 10th grade education> woman i feel like i do have my strong suites. i truely enjoy a good stimulating conversation and the occasional "debate" as well....

In my opinion some of what you talk about like being able to hold a good stimulating conversation are some times more important that "book smarts."  I'd rather judge the person not the piece of paper.  Having done college and part of graduate school, I see people who are "book smart" who couldn't run a household or hold a conversation on current events....

SimplyMichael -> RE: Intellectual Appeal (4/18/2007 12:12:35 PM)

As the saying goes, finding a woman you would like to take to dinner is easy, finding one you would like to have breakfast with is much harder.  I can't wait for breakfast!

As a side note: while I DO have college degrees, a degree isn't necessarily an indication of intellect. Higher education degrees are about opportunity, not necessarily intelligence.
MFM, Couldn't agree more. Book smart dullards are a bore.

One of the primary reasons I always wanted to meet quickly in person while going through the search process was to determine if we were compatible intellectually. Philosophical agreement was never a requirement. Knowing who was President and being able to identify the continent where Iraq is located was more important than whether they supported the President and why the USA was fighting a war there.

I enjoy a pace paced well rounded intellect, one that doesn't have that 'vacant stare' during a discussion that is outside their area of study, previously referenced by Mike.

Speaking of Mike...

I don't know Mike, drooling around a ball gag is kinda hot.

SimplyMichael -> RE: Intellectual Appeal (4/18/2007 12:21:13 PM)

Merc,

Pushing my hard limits again eh?  Damn you are good!  Okay, SOME drooling is fucking hot~

I am a high school dropout as is another friend of mine.  He never even took much college and his budget he spends with a tiny staff and little review is well over a billion.  I have sat at Chez Pannise and delighted people who are world renowed experts on French culture, teachers at Berkely, etc.

Having a degree does not "make" you intelligent, it is only a sign you have some amount of discipline, a bit less true as you go up through Masters and PHds.  Don't forget, frat boys graduate too!

imthatacheyouhav -> RE: Intellectual Appeal (4/18/2007 12:24:11 PM)

OMG...i totally make the best breakfast in the world...LOL...and we wont even discuss my homemade sausage gravy!!.....its too obscenely good even for THIS website <winks>

I don't think it's been said better...

Casie -> RE: Intellectual Appeal (4/18/2007 12:25:03 PM)

Degrees are not important to me other. Someone can be very intelligent without them. You can expand your knolege and understanding without attending a college. In fact one of the most intelligent insitefull people I have ever met only had an 8th grade education. He was very well read, and successful (owning his own car business).

I'm suprised that so few are putting less on sexual attraction and more on intellect.

Why does that surprise you? The one who are put MORE on TNA aren't likely to be over on this side. They're all over on the profile side looking at pics.

And in my case on both sides [8D]  nothing like reading some intelligent discourse while browsing some TandA... ah life is good.[;)]

badpaliden -> RE: Intellectual Appeal (4/18/2007 12:33:18 PM)

I seem to remember  there being an old joke about all those letters after a college degree.. B.S..bulshit..M.S...more shit.. and  then theres Phd....Piled higher and deeper!!

hereyesruponyou -> RE: Intellectual Appeal (4/18/2007 12:37:36 PM)

Intelligence and Intellect denote different things to me. Intelligence is the raw material. I know alot of intelligent people and i enjoy being around some of them. Intellect is more what you do with it, but i don't think that has to be limited to formal education. Not everyone does well in that setting or has an interest in participating in it. Some of the most interesting people i have spent time with are not much on "book learning", but read voraciously and research topics of interest and can converse on numerous topics in great detail.

My first "real" boyfriend was writing and selling computer programs at 14. I had to teach him how to bake a frozen pizza. Made the mistake of giving him a dog who didn't care if he forgot to leave the computer for a date....  The field i am in generally is filled with people with degrees and no real life experience. Save me from the theoretical types please!!! A little common sense goes a long way in many situations.

I like people who get what i say.....the first time i say it :)

Agreed..although I allow for the liklyhood that they simply aren't knowledgable about my topic. I also like people that I can trust with a screwdriver...but that one is often less important than sex appeal. *chuckle*

I'm suprised that so few are putting less on sexual attraction and more on intellect. That's BS. Sure we would like to be able to communicate on an intelligent level. Let an attractive man/woman show an interest in you and intelligence goes out the window. It is human nature.

it may well be your version of human nature but its not mine ... Human Nature ensures that we find ourselves the most appropriate mate to continue our genetic strengths into the next generation .... we follow our insticts to the best mate .. this will be personal for everyone  .... my instincts tell me to run run run from the ignorant ... (notice i did not stay stupid... i said ignorant)

personally ... i am not going to be beaten by Someone who cant outwit me ... it would just feel very very very wrong to me ... doesn't matter how beautiful. studly Domly or whateverly ... i cannot resepct people who cannot demostrate intelligence ..it would also soon become extremely boring were there no decent banter. Ultimately for me without respect ,,, there cannot be trust.

just MHO ....

Missokyst -> RE: Intellectual Appeal (4/18/2007 1:05:47 PM)

Intelligence is the first thing I look for.  If you can't outthink me there is no chance in heck.  There has to be something that you have, which I lack and may have need of, which at least inspires me to look further.  Quick wit, debates without debacle, and a desire to know more than just enough to get by, stimulates my naturally inquisitive nature to learn what ever I can to be seen in your world.

pattayonacracker -> RE: Intellectual Appeal (4/18/2007 1:06:08 PM)

not only do the submissives/slaves have to have intelligence be able to hold down their end of the conversation but be engaging as well, to just sit and spew out information doesnt make one smart... you have to be able to hold the conversation down and engage others into it as well.
This is not just to say that only submissives/slaves should be intellectual..lol.. who wants a dummy Dom/me?

So, I've been thinking about this. On some levels, you're right. For me, it depends on what I'm looking for. If I'm just wanting a fuck buddy or an occassional partner or such, yeah, sexual attraction can win out. But, if I'm looking for a relationships, there has to be more...and there has to be more than intellect, too.

This, I think, is the crux of it for me.  Well said.

Well then to perhaps entertwin a thread with another,., what do you find more important first.. looks  or intellectual appeal?

darkinshadows -> RE: Intellectual Appeal (4/18/2007 1:16:33 PM)

How about - start a new thread and respect the OP and his original (hopeful) request - and so not divert from the OP too much.  You can always start a new thread on that question.
