I would think a surgeon has more important things to do while at work.  Like the others said, i would check this one out carefully.  Good luck with it.

Yeah, if I was going to lie I wouldn't use "Surgeon", I'd use something sexy like "Pilot", "Bank Robber" or "Preist."

I understand what minnetar is saying, but it sounds like you are going about this the right way, Princess Ellie. Teachers, doctors, and others in certain professions DO have to be careful about admitting they are into the scene. Sure, give him the benefit of the doubt for now, and yes, verify everything before getting serious.

Best of luck to you!

Waaah. I think I might cry. I met this really cool Dom online here, and we've been talking recently. I've found that he's the coolest guy ever, and I really love chatting with him. He's a surgeon so he pops on and off between his surgeries, and I've been staking out the site waiting for him so we could chat. It's gotten to the point that I've been looking at messages I've recieved on my profile, and I just automatically delete them because they're not Mister Eric.

He wasn't on at eight, so I popped into the bath tub and soaked for thirty minutes and then spent twenty doing those girly bed preperation things, so I come back and he sent me a message. It was all very yay, until I found that he had left ten minutes before I got back. It's too late, I really am crying.

Does this ever happen to you!? I staked him out all last night and all tonight, and the one time I leave he shows up.

Go get um tiger!  I like women that take life and men into their own hands.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr good luck

Well, it appears what I thought was his last name is actually his middle one. As a doctor he doesn't want to ruin his job by being blackmailed or something.

And I understand that it's not an everyday thing, but I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. If I'm ever going to meet him, he'll need to prove himself to me first. I am very cautious about this.

If he doesn't want to be * found out*, then he shouldn't be using the hospital compter to chat on. He should be dictating his operative reports or doing something any real surgeon would do after a surgery. Like checking up on his patients in the recovery room, writing orders for when the patient is transferred back to the regular unit, calling or speaking to the family or sig. other to tell them how things went, running up to the surgical floor to check on his other patients or any plethera of other routine things surgeons do.
I've been a nurse along time, and I have yet to meet the surgoen who does a surgery and then has an hour or two to sit and do crossword puzzles. It isn't like they do a surgery and then have all day to wait for the next one. Surgeons do more than operate.
To borrow a line from Julia... You're bullshit radar should be beeping off a deafening sound.

I bet he doesn't even know what McGill forceps are.. or  B/J straight 9".. or a Wachenfelt ... or a Michel clip.....Dieffenbach.. or a Virchow... oh well I could go on, but you get the idea.

I think you should be aware of what a con is. The word "con" is should for "confidence". A con job is basically a confidence game. The psychology behind all con jobs is as follows: People are inherently greedy in wanting what they want. If you promise them what they want then they will not be paying attention to the fact you are full of shit because they desire to believe you. Basically people see what they want to see because they want whatever the con artist is promising them. This entire scenario reeks of a con job, possibly being performed by an actual con.

People can only be conned if they want to get something out of the situation... in your case, the idea of having a handsome surgeon is soooo pleasing to you that you are willing to overlook and dismiss the evidence that this guy is probably full of shit.

That's partly correct.  Cons where people prey on your greed are pretty common, but those are also pretty easy to spot.  The more insidious cons prey on people's generosity rather than their greed, and they can be very hard to spot.

Here's a great description of the latter.  There's a wonderful scene in the movie 'House of Games' where a con man played by Joe Mantegna is explaining a simple con to his student, played by Lindsay Crouse.

They're in a Western union office and the con man is pretending to wait for money that was supposedly wired to him.  A man comes into the office and walks up to the counter to see if money he's waiting for has arrived yet.  It hasn't, and he sits down next to our con man to wait.  The con man keeps getting up to pester the woman at the counter, clearly agitated that his money hasn't arrived yet.  He sits down frustrated and starts up a conversation with the other man.  During the course of the conversation he finds out the man is a marine and wating for money so he can catch a bus back to his base.  The con man says "hey, I was in the Corps too" and works on forging a bond with this stranger.  He says his money should be in any time now and if his comes in first, he'll give the marine the bus fare he needs so he can get back to base in time for muster, and he can mail the money back whenever he gets it.  This is where the term confidence game comes into play.  He's not depending on the mark's confidence, he's giving the mark his confidence by offering to help and asking for nothing.

The mark then says that if his wire comes in first, he'll give the con man money for whatever it was he needed it for.  The con man says that's not necessary but the other man insists saying it's the least he could do for a fellow marine.  Since the con man really doesn't have a wire pending, he knows that the marks wire will arrive first.  When it does, he is happy to offer the con man money.  In the scene, the con man says thanks but he's ok and walks out of the office, having ended the lesson for his student..  The "best" thing about the situation is that the con man never asked for any money, he only offered it.

When you're offered something for nothing, it's easy to see the hook long before before it sets.  This type of con can leave you wondering what that pain in your mouth is long after you've been reeled in.

If you ever want to see a triple-cross mindfuck of a movie, this is one to see.

I understand why all of you tell me to be extra cafeful and not believe anything he tells me, but I really will give him the benefit of the doubt. Well, at least while I'm chatting online with him. I am really careful about who I speak with online. I've had stalkers in the past, so I've learned from my mistakes. I wont be skipping down to Atl to see him anytime soon regardless of whether or not he's lying. Until he and I talk more and he proves that he is who he says he is, I will not be doing anything dangerous like telling him my full name or where I live.

I wouldn't believe that he was a doctor like he says he is if it wasn't for some of the things we've talked about and our history together.

I met him online two years ago, and we talked for a little while. He STILL said he was a Doctor back then, which is one of the reasons I believe him. We only talked for a few days and then we went our seperate ways, but he found me online AGAIN. and neither of us remembered the other for a little while until I searched my gmail messages and found his from way back. His story hasn't changed in all that time, which is the FIRST reason I believe him.

As for the second, I have always been a little sickly. I was born premature, which essentially set me up for health problems later in live. I was chatting with Mister Eric about all the hospital visits I've gone on, and about my two main health problems [Acid reflux related breathing trouble and chest pain AND advanced Kidney infections.] I mentioned I'd had a lot of tests done, and he immediatly starts firing off the names of all of these strange tests. I didn't know a few of them, but the majority of the tests he mentioned were the ones that had been done on me at various emergency rooms and hostpials as well as various specialitsts offices like my ENT and my Urologist. There is absolutely no way to be THAT prepared. His responses were hella fast, and some of my tests were really obscure ones. My heath problems in general are a bit weird, especially the acid reflux induced esophogeal spasms, and he was able to hash out all of those tests and wrong diagnoses that I had gone through and been given with me.

And to make you all feel better about knowing that there's a Surgeon who gets kinky online, he doesn't do it during work hours. As a general surgeon, he's on call 24/7. He also covers lots of different hospitals, and so has houses and appartments scttered about. He told me that it was too much of a hassle to pay for another appartment near the Hospital he's covering now, and it would be more difficult to get to the OR if needed, so he lives in his spare office. He eats the caffeteria food, showers in the lockeroom, and sleeps in his big office. So, when I say he mails me from the hospital, it's because he lives there. And he's also not using his Doctor computer, he's in his room using his laptop. His room and laptop just happen to be located in the hospital in which he works. A lot of the time he has to go off and play doctor and put our chatting on hold. Last night I only got to talk to him for half an hour because some man needed his appendix out.

Perhaps he had the same tests done? Just a thought, acid reflux is a very common condition. My mother has it, my ex boyfriend had  ulcers and had it, my brother too, my Daddy has problems with acid indigestion. My father had it... and these days when you have it for a while they run these tests standard operating procedure... just saying.

I give money, time, or effort to people fairly regularly.  Just kinda stupid that way.

I usually tell them where they can send it if they insist they will get it back to me, but I always assume it is gone for good.

Just me, could be wrong, but there you go.

p.s.  On a related note, a quote comes to mind which is relevant to the thread; Things that sound too good to be true usually are.

The tests weren't done for acid reflux. The tests were done for an obscure chest pain I was having that prevented me from breathing or moving. :3

LATER tests were done after acid reflux had been brought up, but the earlier tests I discussed with him ranged from heart tests to lung tests to all the tests in between as well as a stint of Esophagel Spasm medication.

We talked about the random inbetween tests.

And my kidney infection problems came with more random tests that he knew of as well.

You guys are mean.

I don't even know why we're having this conversation in the first place. The question wasn't about if he was real or not, it was about unlucky timing!

It's not THAT unbelievable either.

Dear Ellie-

Aww, calm down. Some of the replies you got were a bit rude, but don't write them all off. Most were people who were rightly concerned that someone might have been scamming- which is always a concern online, especially in the case of very young, cute girls.

I know it sucks when people immediatly assume that young equals dumb, but if you poke around here, I'd bet you will see about the same response to older posters who gush about how wonderful someone that they met online is.

Stay warm,
Lawrence
