Don't worry Celeste - people of both orientations have gotten snarky with me (and probably everyone else here) in various threads. Ignore them, snark back, or find a weedwhacker. In any case, try not to let it get to you.

OOH! Can I be a complete idiot? If I'm a Complete idiot, I don't have to work for a living, and I get someone to wipe my drool, right?

CuriousLord -> RE: Warning - Rant (4/18/2007 11:57:32 PM)

Oh, oh!  What about a pseudo-intellectual "Dom" who puts up threads about how people shouldn't have cliche titles in their aliases, or how intelligence is so important who, in his OP's, preemptively patronizes responders?

Or, a "Domme" who tells a male slave he's been insightful and wise to make a post on how women are superior over men, for men are inferior in all aspects of society, then makes silly generalizations, intended seriously, in response to almost every thread she responds to?

Yeah, I have a list.  A short listed, granted, but a list nonetheless.

spankmepink11 -> RE: Warning - Rant (4/19/2007 12:00:12 AM)

I don't think that this is strictly a "Dominant" condition....more of a human one, as i've seen many a submissive do the same.
I'm trying to figure out how the OP correlates  reading a patronizing post to an act of submission.

Its nice to see the little ones standing up for themselves, I think it is so cute.

Ummmm
I'm not "little" by any stretch of the means
and I do stand up for myself.. I have a brain, and I love to use it

~respectful tone, always.. heh~

Lately it seems like any thread I read has a post from a wannabe dom who is patronizing as hell.

They don't thrive well if everyone ignores them, and the message boards stay much cleaner.

SusanofO -> RE: Warning - Rant (4/19/2007 12:20:27 AM)

Celeste: I hear you. I commented on this pheomenon on another thread today. I don't see it as often, but sometimes it can be really annoying.

I don't get why I should have to "dumb down", just because someone seems surprised I can make an occasional intellgent comment. I do find it patronizing.

I also find it to be a mark of insecurity.
And that's not exactly the hallmark of a "Domly Dominant" - is it?

It's not like I've identified myself as an "Age-player" in my profile. I don't need to be addressed as one might a five year-old.

I appreciate some recognition of myself as a thinking adult to begin with, not someone dwelling on it, as if it is some exception to the rule.

Not to mention, as you say, that I am not their personal submissive. Their approach seems to lack the consideration of the idea that submssives are all individuals, with their own personalities.

If they're simply trying to be complimentary, that's one thing, and can be nice.

If it goes overboard,and they keep doing it, I consider it their personal "issue" (not mine), and no way am I going to throw fuel on the fire, 'cuz I've got better (mostly) things to do.

Then again, there are those occasional moments, it can be fun to play along, just to see how much weirder the conversation (if that's what one can call it) can become, out of sheer curiosity.

While the I can't claim to be certain, I'm pretty sure he was kidding, imitating exactly what you were posting about in annoyance.

While I understand it can be annoying to see people like this, your best bet is to totally ignore them. Use that wonderful feature, the block button, and consign them to obscurity. Believe me, it can do wonders for your blood pressure. :-)

But.. but.. physical violence is so much more satisfying!  <Insert pouty face.>

Somone else, however (not on this thread) does definitely spring to mind....Occasionally,  if the thread is about some topic I have a passion for and am deeply participating in, I've gotten just as oozingly patronizing in return, which can be amusing, especially if it's then reciprocated, and he never catches on this is what I am really doing.

I know this response on my part is kinda petty, and possibly passive-aggressive as hell, but if his over-patronizing ways really bug me, I do find it in a small sense of consolation - since he isn't usually aren't relating to my comments on any individual-personalized level anyway. I find it more amusing that he doesn't seem to catch on, frankly.

- Susan

LOL...I know exactly who you mean. You can make the most involved post and he pontificates on some smallish facet, completely missing your point. He enjoys the omniscient role, I suppose.

SusanofO -> RE: Warning - Rant (4/19/2007 2:26:16 AM)

You may know who I mean, I think, yes (and in case it even crossed your mind, it would never, ever be you!). Oh well, life is short.....TGIT (it's almost Friday)!!

It's not quite that bad.  But hey, subs fawning over doms in this fashion is nothing new.  I get aggravated more when I say something, and then a male dom says EXACTLY the same thing and all the fem subs swoon of what he said.

There goes my secret of rephrasing what LA says and having the subs swooning over me like they were in Gone With the Wind. Well, shucks, I'll have to start rephrasing Susan's posts now that this is out.

bandit25 -> RE: Warning - Rant (4/19/2007 4:07:09 AM)

That's it.  It's ridiculous those who "hang" that title on themselves.  But, I just figure screw it.  If anyone is stupid enough to fall for that shit, well, they'll see the error of their ways pretty dman quick.

bandit25 -> RE: Warning - Rant (4/19/2007 4:08:38 AM)

Of course he was kidding.

This is not only the M.O. of so-called wanna be doms, but I have noticed that there are a lot of people that the moment you disagree with them or don't see things their way, you are given all sorts of wonderful names.  This goes for Doms and subs.  It's a shame adults can't tolerate being disagreed with.  Oh well, such is life.

It is easy for them to hid behind their keyboards and be the "lord high ruler" of whatever part of cyberdom they think they own.  And when they come into my inbox with an attitude or an insult, hell yeah, they get it right back.
There is no reason to engage someone in a conversation for the sole purpose of proving what a dick they can be.

I don’t give it too much thought as I figure that at the end of the day I do not place any importance on what they are saying.  I actually did make a note in a post on one of the threads recently that the op of that thread  did not need to reply to my post telling me that I was a ‘good girl’ or anything (and I am pretty sure he did skip me when giving his individual domly thanks to the posters ).  I do find myself creepily drawn back to the posts from people whom I find irritating – kind of like seeing a clown – they are awful but I can’t look away!
